'Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.' Review: Love In The Time Of Hydra

3/25/2015 10:17am EDT
'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' Recap: A Tale of Two S.H.I.E.L.D.s
Starting "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." off with a "Pulp Fiction" reference is always a good omen. "Love in the Time of Hydra" opens and Ward and Agent 33 are sitting in a classic middle American diner. There's talk of pumpkin pancakes and pecan syrup.

Then they pull out a couple of pistols and hold the place up. All we needed was for Ward to call 33 "Honey Bunny" and the homage would have been complete (and too obvious, probably).

The chunk of "Love in the Time of Hydra" willing to go bold with an elongated "Pulp Fiction" gag is also the chunk that's by far the most exciting. Ward and 33 are g...

'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' Recap: Yep, [SPOILER] Was Exactly What You Thought It Was

12/10/2014 9:31am EST
'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' Recap: Yep, [HUGE SPOILER] Was Exactly
As with every other "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." recap you'll read this week, this one comes with a hearty disclaimer.

SPOILERS. The most spoilery of spoilers; spoilers that dictate the fate of the ongoing Marvel universe and radically change the basic setup of "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D."

Ready? Cool.

Like it says up in the title, the giganto-reveal from last night's "What They Become" is the exact thing everyone was expecting. The secret temple, the obelisk and the alien writing all stem from one thing: the Inhumans.

The Inhumans being a particular group of people experimented on by ancient K...

The Hottest Stars Hit The Hottest Gifting Lounge For The Independent Spirit Awards

2/26/2013 1:40pm EST
While everyone was buzzing around Hollywood preparing for the Oscars on Sunday, a fun and edgy Independent Spirit Awards was happening down by the Santa Monica beaches on a beautiful sunny Saturday. Starpulse had the opportunity to hit The Official Presenter Gift Lounge backstage to do a bit of celeb spotting.

I walked in at the same time as 9-year-old Quvenzhané Wallis who has been the hit of the awards show circuit this season with her performance in Beasts of the Southern Wild. She was pretty in pink and she seemed to enjoy Mattel Games' movie-guessing game, Pass the Popcorn. I imagine ...

Kyle MacLachlan Thought 'Showgirls' Would Be A 'Hard-Hitting' Drama

5/29/2012 3:33pm EDT
Kyle MacLachlan
Kyle Maclachlan was stunned after watching his camp classic Showgirls for the first time - he had assumed the stripper movie would be a "hard-hitting" drama.

The film, starring Elizabeth Berkley as an exotic dancer in Las Vegas, was universally panned by critics after its release in 1995 and went on to become a cult favorite.

However, MacLachlan, who played nightclub boss Zack Carey, admits he went into production believing Showgirls would be a provocative hit - and it wasn't until he viewed the finished edit that he finally realized it wasn't his best work.

He tells Britain's Metro n...

"Psych" star James Roday and Executive Producer/Writer Steve Franks promise a "Twin Peaks"-inspired episode of the popular USA comedy. Starpulse just participated in a conference call with them, and they talked about the series' fifth season, which kicks off next week.

"Twin Peaks," which became a national phenomenon in 1990, was director David Lynch's brainchild that blended dark comedy and surreal drama. It focused on the small-town murder of high schooler Laura Palmer, and became known for its quirky humor, atmospheric mystery and critical acclaim. It also starred "Desperate Housewiv...

TV On DVD Recommendation: 'Twin Peaks'

2/29/2008 1:53pm EST
Twin Peaks
After a week off for Oscar madness it's time to get back into the TV on DVD recommendations. This week I'd like to invite you to check out one of the strangest worlds ever created for television. The small town of Twin Peaks, Washington holds many small mysteries and one very large one that holds the town captive.

That large story revolves around the brutal murder of the town's homecoming queen, Laura Palmer, and the attempted murder of her friend Ronette Polaski. The crime brings FBI agent Dale Cooper (Kyle McLachlan in one of the most sublime performances you'll ever see) to the tr...

'Dance War': This Show Is So Fixed

2/12/2008 8:46am EST
Carrie Ann Inaba
Remember when Alice fell down the rabbit hole and suddenly she was gallivanting with mad hatters, talking cards, and swam in a sea of her own tears? Well, none of that happened this week on "Dance War," but the completely illogical chain of events in that story applies to this baffling dance competition.

"Dance War's season finale is next week. What? So far, there is one team of four and one team of six. How on earth does that produce a winner? That's like having a track race but halfway through pulling out five runners and saying, "Yeah, we're done here." Team Bruno loses a m...
