Seth MacFarlane is known for creating Family Guy, American Dad, The Cleveland Show and Bordertown for FOX, but now he'll be moving in front of the camera as the star of an upcoming live-action science fiction TV series for the network.

FOX announced this week that it has given a straight-to-series order for the as yet untitled MacFarlane project, which is set 300 years in the future and focuses on the motley crew of the not-so-top-of-the-line exploratory spaceship Orville. Page Six reports that the singer was so "wasted" at the event that she was unable to join the host and other celebrity guests by singing some Frank Sinatra tunes.

MacFarlane hired a 50-piece orchestra to entertain his guests, many of whom joined him on stage, including Meghan Trainor, Katherine McPhee and Bill Maher.

Aguilera, 34, wouldn't join in the festivities even though she and MacFarlane sang a duet of "New York, New York" ...

Seth MacFarlane Says 'Family Guy' Movie Is Happening 'Soon'
Adult cartoons like 'South Park' and 'The Simpsons' have made the transition to the silver screen multiple times over the last two decades, often to great critical and commercial success. Despite this fact, fans of 'Family Guy' have been left with nothing more than the regular TV show and a few direct-to-video spin-offs to get excited about. But that may be changing soon, according to series creator Seth MacFarlane.

MacFarlane got up the hopes of 'Family Guy' fans everywhere on Wednesday when he responded to a fan asking about the possibility of a 'Family Guy' movie on Twitter.

However, Albert is smitten with a newcomer played by Charlize Theron who also happens to have the skills to teach him how to take on a deadly outlaw (Liam Neeson). Seth MacFarlane: Unrestrained Humor, Self-Indulgent Routines Win At The Oscars

2/25/2013 11:17am EST
Seth MacFarlane
Seth MacFarlane defended his performance as Oscar host just as it began.

In his opening monologue, Seth was interrupted by William Shatner in full Captain Kirk regalia, who went back in time to warn him that he would be dragged through the coals for his sophomoric humor. In reality, that's just what critics are bashing Seth for today.

To be fair to Seth, he certainly held himself back from the more devastating humor he has shown in his animated series Family Guy, American Dad, and The Cleveland Show. The jokes that were like re-written for the show lacked punch coming from Seth's mouth.
