Can 'The Wolfman' Live Up To These Werewolf Movies?

2/12/2010 1:11pm EST
The Wolfman
The Wolfman, inspired by the classic Universal film, premieres in theaters today. It continues the tradition of films based on lycanthropy since Werewolf of London in 1935. There has been a plethora of werewolf films since, and here are some particularly memorable ones.

Dog Soldiers: Like 28 Days Later, Dog Soldiers was a gritty horror movie from overseas that helped resurrect the genre for another decade. Dog Soldiers also helped boost its director's career - Neil Marshall has since directed horror films The Descent and Doomsday. 28 Days Later's director, Danny Boyle, has since helmed h...

Are Zombies The New Vampires?

Zombieland
Let's get this out of the way first: I'm a zombie fan. I don't like vampires, and I don't think that Edward is particularly sexy. Sorry. But as an entertainment commentator for Starpulse I'd have to admit, with some reluctance, that vampires have zombies over a barrel. And it doesn't look like that's ever going to change. It took more than a few tries to get it right for many of the most popular groups of all time. A few young gents from Britain started off their career calling themselves The Detours and then The High Numbers before ultimately settling on The Who.

Rock history is rife with lor...

Supernatural Horror: So Bad It's Good

1/31/2008 1:43pm EST
Underworld
A recent conversation involving the short-lived, obscure (but highly entertaining) Fox television series "Werewolf" prompted us to take a closer look at some of the failures peppered throughout the history of supernatural horror in television and film. And there are a lot of them.

The genre has always been somewhat popular (especially in literature), and projects continue to appear on screen with some regularity. Unfortunately, the quality of those productions remains quite low. Sure, there are exceptions. Television shows like "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Angel" and films lik...
