September 24th, 2012 9:49am EDT
Josh Lucas and wife
Despite doctors' wishes, Josh Lucas' wife Jessica Henriquez gave birth to son Noah in June after she was advised to consider undergoing a hysterectomy due to cervical cancer. Now that delay is causing her serious health complications.

Jessica's disease has advanced from stage 1A to stage 1B. Treatment at this stage often includes hysterectomy or radiation therapy and sometimes chemotherapy.

Jessica and Josh fell in love in a whirlwind romance that began last year, resulting in marriage in March. She kept the cancer news to herself, and while she was mulling over her options she got pregna...

Brittany's Blog: This is my viewpoint, from the far end of the couch...and this weekend, I'm busy re-organizing my DVD collection. All 3,000-plus of them. But while I own my fair share of blockbusters, I also have a special place in my heart for lesser-known movies. A lot of great films fly under the radar, and as I'm moving a few of them around on my shelves, I thought I ought to share them with you.

In alphabetical order, here are ten of my favorite flicks that you probably didn't know existed, and links so you can pick them up for yourselves (which you should).

In the post, uncovered by Life & Style magazine, she writes, "In a dog park in New York, on a day like the thousands before it, I decided to take a chance. Maybe it was the blue eyes staring back at me, perhaps it was the loud and comfortable laugh that m...

Josh Lucas
Actor Josh Lucas's new wife is pregnant with the couple's first child, according to a report.

The Sweet Home Alabama star wed his longtime girlfriend Jessica, a freelance writer, on Friday, just two months after Lucas revealed he had been engaged "for a while".

At the time, the actor, 40, claimed the couple was planning to exchange vows over Christmas, but news of the surprise nuptials surfaced on Monday, and were subsequently confirmed by his representative.

Now a source tells UsMagazine.com that Jessica was a pregnant bride and is due to give birth later this year.

'The Firm' Recap: 'Chapter Eight' (1.08)

February 26th, 2012 1:05am EST
The Firm
The Firm hit a rough patch in its first Saturday outing. It feels less disjointed this time out, but it's still missing that something that held my attention when it began.

The cops cut Mitch loose, while Ray, Abby and Andrew (yep, Shaun Majumder's back this week!) worry over him. The crazy turn of events prompts Mitch to confide in Andrew, because he doesn't yet know what Andrew's up to, which means he has no problem telling Andrew everything about the Sarah Holt case. Of course, this information finds its way back to Alex Clark shortly thereafter. She decides it's time to "bring ...

Check Out 'J. Edgar' On Blu-Ray Combo Pack, DVD & Digital Download Feb. 21

February 19th, 2012 6:49am EST
J Edgar
Acclaimed actor Leonardo DiCaprio stars in "J. Edgar," director Clint Eastwood's richly detailed biopic exploring the life and career of controversial FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover.

For nearly 50 years, Hoover (DiCaprio) fought crime as one of the most powerful law enforcers in America. During Hoover's extended stint as Director of the FBI, however, his penchant for bending the law in the name of seeking justice and using the secrets of high-profile leaders to gain personal leverage won him just as many supporters as detractors.

Little did many other than his loyal colleague Clyde ...

'The Firm' Recap: 'Chapter Seven' (1.07)

February 19th, 2012 12:59am EST
The Firm
If you're reading this, you know that The Firm has been bounced to Saturday nights, and therefore probably doesn't have much time left on the air. It's an unfortunate coincidence that its first episode post-the bad news feels like the fight's going out of the show.

Mitch is being interrogated about Martin's death by a stereotypical blustery cop, who seems completely incompetent to handle the investigation. Mitch points out that the hotel room door was obviously kicked in, which he didn't do, and yet the cop is happy to put that aside and continue to treat Mitch as if he's already ...

My 10 Celebrity Valentines For 2012

February 13th, 2012 11:00am EST
Adam Levine
Valentine's Day is almost upon us. I don't have a valentine this year, but I'd like to give a few out to 10 celebs whose work I have particular affection for.

1. Adam Levine

My favorite The Voice coach is someone I'll always admire, and deservedly so: he has more hardware than a Home Depot. This past year alone, he and Maroon 5 scored their first American Music Award, a People's Choice Award and a Grammy nomination. I totally concur with my friend Jesse Blaze Snider, who referred to them as a band "with three near-perfect albums." (And a fourth on the way, reportedly due in June.)

Now,...

'The Firm' Recap: 'Chapter Six' (1.06)

February 3rd, 2012 2:01am EST
The Firm
This week's sixth installment of The Firm belongs to its guest star, but also reveals some important pieces of the puzzle, so it's a necessary stepping stone to bigger things.

Confined to an interrogation room at the local police precinct, now the sole suspect in Martin's death, Mitch is glaring a hole in the one-way mirror, while one of Martin's colleagues lays it on thick for the cops. Our favorite lawyer is pretty much like a caged animal.

Two weeks earlier, not noticing there's the mob henchman outside his house, Mitch is getting his first look at the list of nurses that Mar...

'The Firm' Recap: 'Chapter Four' (1.04)

The Firm
After a strong start, The Firm's fourth chapter wavers - but that also serves to reinforce what makes this show tick and why the series should stick to its guns.

We start forward again, with Mitch having gotten off the phone with Andrew, and meeting his family at the dock. He tells them that Martin is dead and explains what we've been seeing for the past three weeks. "I can't know what we're into until I know what this is about," he says, and heads off to find Andrew at the same time that the cops want to talk to him.

There's finally a title sequence this week, and it's pretty n...

The Firm
After Sunday's thorough two-hour premiere, The Firm arrives on its regular date and time with another piece that sheds more light on its heroes. Satisfaction from it likely depends on what element you were watching for. It was light on the conspiracy, but strong on character, which the show has already proven is its strong suit.

In case you missed it last time, we get another look at Martin committing suicide off the hotel balcony. Now we also get to see Mitch making a very narrow escape from said hotel room, taking more than one painful leap of his own. Unfortunately, the quick ...

'The Firm' Recap: 'Pilot/Chapter One' (1.01/1.02)

January 9th, 2012 2:07am EST
The Firm
The story of The Firm began in a novel 20 years ago, then was adapted into a film, and now it has arrived on NBC as a weekly series. Considered on its own merits, the TV program stands as an intriguing series that is not simply a conspiracy play.

It's ten years after the events of the previous incarnations (so 2003), and Mitch McDeere (Josh Lucas of Sweet Home Alabama and Glory Road) is running from a trio of thugs in broad daylight in Washington, D.C. He calls his wife Abby (Human Target guest star Molly Parker) from a pay phone, saying, "They could be listening...it's happening again...

Two Jews' Review 'J. Edgar' And Duke It Out Over Eastwood's Biopic (Video)

J. Edgar
Two Jews on Film - By Joan Alperin-Schwartz: Every once in awhile, you experience a performance by an actor that simply blows your mind. That's exactly what happened to me, when I watched Leonardo DiCaprio portray J. Edgar Hoover in Clint Eastwood's new film, 'J. Edgar.'

What makes a great performance are the subtle things an actor does. Things that inform the character… a gesture, a look, body language, the tilt of the head. DiCaprio obviously understands this because he absolutely nails the part.

Equally brilliant, is Armie Hammer (The Social Network) as Clyde Tolson, Hoover's long ti...

If you're looking for a movie to start your Valentine's Day weekend off with, WB released the Josh Duhamel-Katherine Heigl romantic comedy Life As We Know It on Blu-Ray and DVD Tuesday. Here's a look at what's inside the Blu-Ray combo pack version of the release.

The Movie

Life As We Know It is not breaking new ground - it reminds me of a Lifetime TV-movie called Raising Waylon in many respects - but I feel safe in saying that we don't generally expect romantic comedies to be groundbreaking. We go to them because they're familiar and feel-good.

What tends to separate one romantic comed...

Biggest Box Office Flops

Movies tank all of the time. Just last weekend the new X-Files movie only managed to make a few dozen live chickens at the box office. Still that's not too bad, not really. Gillian Anderson might have some trouble getting work, but she's probably happy knowing that people still recognize her name. Some movies get a lot of press for their poor performances. Sure, Jessica Simpson's "Blonde Ambition" made about what The Dark Knight makes in an hour-but even that stinker wasn't a huge loss, not really. A genuine box office disaster is something special. The Anti-Dark Knight. Movies that bombard...
