Trailer Talk: This Week in Movies - 'I Am Number Four,' 'Unkown' & More

I am Number Four
The latest Best Picture Oscar nominee I've had the chance to watch is “The King's Speech,” starring Colin Firth, Geoffrey Rush, and Helena Bonham Carter. This period piece, which takes place in the 1930s leading into World War II, follows the soon-to-be crowned King George VI (Colin Firth), a man who suffers from a stammer.

George's speech impediment severely limits him in the numerous public speaking engagements he must attend, and leaves him without confidence as a leader. When traditional speech therapy fails him, his wife Elizabeth (Helena Bonham Carter) seeks out the unorthodox Li...

Trailer Talk: This Week In Movies- 'Kick-Ass,' 'Death At A Funeral' & More

April 12th, 2010 9:24am EDT
Tracy Morgan and Chris Rock
Thursday night I had the opportunity to see the rock n roll biopic “The Runaways” about the female 70s rock band featuring Joan Jett and Cherie Currie. The film effectively establishes the era with all its drug-addled and grungy glory. It paints the rise of the band as a whirlwind experience that ends almost as quickly as it starts. This concept is well-conveyed through Floria Sigismondi’s Dutch angles and spinning shots.

Where the film falters however is giving its characters enough depth for the audience to relate to them. They do not work hard enough to show us the girls are from...

Can Jerry Bruckheimer Pull Off 'Bad Boys III'?

January 11th, 2010 12:26pm EST
Bad Boys
Producer extraordinaire has mounted staggering productions, including the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. His biggest task might be mounting a third Bad Boys film. Not only did the first film make movie stars out of Will Smith and Martin Lawrence, but now even the director is a star.

Bad Boys was Michael Bay's first film. He came back for Bad Boys II but that was before another franchise got its hooks in him.

"It depends on his schedule," Bruckheimer said. "We love Michael. We'd like him to do it but he's kind of swallowed up with Transformers. Maybe the timing will work out right...

September 19th, 2006 5:42pm EDT
Open Season
Paul Westerberg's legendary status in rock 'n' roll history is more than secure. As leader of Minneapolis post-punk/pre-grunge icons The Replacements, Westerberg was the creative force behind one of the -- if not the -- most influential rock bands of the 1980s, creating a template that would later be adapted by such diverse rockers as Nirvana and Ryan Adams, among numerous others. And since 1991, he's maintained a solo career that would make most of his peers green with envy, if critically-acclaimed albums and fan respect still have anything to do with the equation.
