Brad Pitt
The biggest and most memorable event of 1963 was the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, its 50th anniversary will be marked on November 22. The civil rights movement was in full swing as Martin Luther King, Jr. delivered his "I have a dream" speech and the Vietnam conflict had begun. Gas was 29 cents a gallon and the average cost for a new home was $12,560.

Also that year, the Beatles released their first album 'Please Please Me.' Notable films released in 1963 were The Great Escape, From Russia with Love, The Birds, Cleopatra and The Pink Panther. Popular TV shows included, The A...

Lea Thompson: 'I Have A Cat Called Stinky Pete & He Is A Slut'

February 17th, 2012 10:41am EST
Lea Thompson
Lea Thompson has her crafty cat to thank for her new movie as scheming Greg Kinnear's wife in comedy thriller "Thin Ice" because she would never have met the film's writer/director if her pet hadn't been scouring the neighborhood for food scraps.

The actress was on the hunt for a really challenging movie role when Jill Sprecher called to say she had the actress' cat.

Thompson explains, "I have a cat called Stinky Pete and he is a slut. He goes to everybody's house and pretends he's got no house and he's hungry.

"My neighbour, Jill Sprecher, called me up and said, 'We have your cat'. We w...

Trailer Talk: This Week in Movies
Last week I got to see three of the films coming out: “Safe House,” “The Vow,” and “Rampart.” I didn’t absolutely love any of them, but the one I found most enjoyable was “Safe House.” If you haven’t read my thoughts already, check out my review. I haven’t had a chance to write up ones for the others yet, so keep a look out for those later this week.

Arriving in theaters this week are the unnecessary Nicolas Cage sequel “Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance,” the romantic spy comedy “This Means War,” the inspirational documentary “Undefeated,” the anime adventure “The Secret World of Arrie...

Trailer Talk: This Week in Movies - 'Drive,' 'I Don't Know How She Does It,' & More

September 12th, 2011 10:00am EDT
Faithful readers, I apologize that we didn’t have a Trailer Talk column last week. I just moved into a wonderful new apartment and got pretty wrapped up in the packing/unpacking process. Now that I’m settled though, we’re back to business as usual.

I watched Steven Soderbergh’s “Contagion” last week, which I really enjoyed. It’s an infectious whodunit with fantastic casting, eerie electronic music that effectively builds tension, and solid character development. My Grade: A

Arriving in theaters this week are the Ryan Gosling crime thriller “Drive,” the Sarah Jessica Parker dramedy “...

Trailer Talk: This Week In Movies - 'Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows: Part 2,' 'Winnie The Pooh' & More

Harry Potter
Last week I took a break from the theater while I was on vacation, so I didn’t catch anything new. However I did watch the Nick Cassavetes crime drama “Alpha Dog.”

“Alpha Dog” squanders a talented cast of young actors including Anton Yelchin, Justin Timberlake, Emile Hirsch, Olivia Wilde, and Ben Foster with poorly developed character relationships and atrociously written dialogue.

Cassavetes throws in lots of curses to make the young punks seem like hard asses, but instead it makes them seem like ridiculous caricatures of the supposed real life people they’re based on. The only believ...

Katie Holmes 'Shocked' By 'The Kennedys' Cancellation

March 30th, 2011 12:38pm EDT
Katie Holmes
Katie Holmes was "shocked" when bosses at The History Channel axed her The Kennedys miniseries from the network and she deliberately "stayed out" of the subsequent dispute over the project.

The actress plays Jackie Kennedy in the show opposite Greg Kinnear as her onscreen husband, assassinated President John F. Kennedy. The series hit headlines back in January when TV bosses scrapped The Kennedys from their broadcast schedule, citing it as "not a fit for the History brand."

Subsequent reports suggested it was axed following pressure from surviving members of the clan, including Robert F...

Caught In The Act: Sarah Jessica Parker & Greg Kinnear Locking Lips

February 23rd, 2011 3:00pm EST
Greg Kinnear & Sarah Jessica Parker
We spotted Greg Kinnear and Sarah Jessica Parker passionately kissing in Brooklyn yesterday. But there's no scandal here--the two were merely filming a scene for their upcoming movie "I Don't Know How She Does It."

Based on the best-selling Allison Pearson novel, the film centers on a working mother (Parker) trying desperately to juggle marriage, children, and a high-stress job. Kinnear will play the husband, and Jane Curtin will be Kinnear's mother, Parker's mother-in-law.

Christina Hendricks, Pierce Brosnan and Olivia Munn also star. It's set for release in 2012.

The Kennedys miniseries has finally found a home: ReelzChannel.

ReelzChannel CEO Stan Hubbard told The Hollywood Reporter that the first two episodes will air Sunday, April 3, with the remaining six to air on successive nights that week.

The pickup comes nearly a month after A&E Television Networks abruptly dropped the project from its History channel — starring Greg Kinnear and Katie Holmes as John F. Kennedy and Jackie Kennedy, respectively — because it is "not a fit for the History brand."

Greg Kinnear Defends Kennedy Mini-Series

January 26th, 2011 8:36am EST
Greg Kinnear
Movie star Greg Kinnear has responded to remarks made by politician Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. suggesting the TV adaptation of his family's story, which features the actor, was historically inaccurate.

Executives at The History Channel have scrapped plans to air the project, in which Kinnear plays assassinated John F. Kennedy, claiming the finished product wasn't a "fit" for the network.

Producers are now scrambling to find a home for the series, and Kinnear insists he's proud of the project.

He tells Access Hollywood, "It's unfortunate.

"We had an extraordinary, great group behind the show...

Kennedy Family Demanded Miniseries Be Cancelled

January 11th, 2011 8:21am EST
Katie Holmes
Katie Holmes' TV miniseries The Kennedys was axed following complaints from members of the famed family, according to reports.

The highly-anticipated show, starring Holmes as Jackie Kennedy, was cancelled last week by History Channel bosses who felt the final product was "not a fit" for the network. New reports suggest it was scrapped after "intense" pressure from the clan, including Caroline Kennedy - the only surviving child of John F. Kennedy and Jackie Kennedy.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Caroline, along with Arnold Schwarzenegger's wife Maria Shriver, the daughter of Eunic...

January 9th, 2011 9:51am EST
Katie Holmes
Katie Holmes' new TV mini-series about America's 'first family' The Kennedys has been axed in the U.S.

Holmes was to portray Jackie Kennedy in the History Channel's The Kennedys, but the project has been canned by network bosses.

A statement from the channel reads, "While the film is produced and acted with the highest quality, after viewing the final product in its totality, we have concluded this dramatic interpretation is not a fit for the History brand.

"We recognize historical fiction is an important medium for storytelling and commend all the hard work and passion that has gone int...

Attack Of The Comic Book Movies

February 12th, 2009 12:02pm EST
Bringing comic book heroes (and villains) to the big screen has meant big bucks for movie studios in recent years. With huge budgets and state of the art special effects, it's easier than ever for filmmakers to convincingly create the fantasy worlds that classic comic characters inhabit, both delighting die-hard "geeks," and captivating folks who've never picked up a comic book in their lives.

Comic book films have always been popular, dating back to the movie serials of the 1940s featuring Superman, Batman, and Flash Gordon, just to name a few. Christopher Reeve's "Superman" in 1978...

Spotlight On Kristen Wiig

January 22nd, 2009 11:46am EST
Kristen Wiig
If you haven't experienced the comedic performances of Kristen Wiig, you're missing out! She is one of the talented stars of Saturday Night Live who keep the show going.

Everything she does is so hilarious that it's sometimes hard to watch the show without peeing your pants! Kristen joined the cast of SNL in mid 2005 and hopefully won't be leaving anytime soon. Her most memorable characters on the show are Penelope, Virgania Horsen, Excited Sue and the Target Lady.

The Underrated Greg Kinnear

October 27th, 2008 12:34pm EDT
Greg Kinnear
He's that guy in decently funded movies you can't remember. The writing is always good to great, and you're not angry for watching one of his movies instead of The Shawshank Redemption (seriously, when is that NOT on TV?) or asking for your money back outside the theater. His work may not be critically underrated, but he's not a rock solid A-lister just either. With actors like William H. Macy and Tom Hanks out there, getting recognition for expanding on his most likeable qualities might be difficult. He may continue to slip by under the fickle radar of celebrity for a little longer.
