January 16th, 2014 12:03pm EST
Captain Phillips
Not everyone or every movie can be nominated for an Academy Award, but that won't stop us from declared who was snubbed by the Academy this morning when the nominations were announced.

Inside Llewyn Davis: Many of today's snubs felt like it was the Academy saying, "give someone else a chance." After six Oscars and countless nominations, Joel and Ethan Coen were stricken from the record this awards season - other than cinematography and sound mixing nods. The film has an astonishing 94% on Rotten Tomatoes after over 200 critic reviews, but it did not receive one best picture nomination from...

Well, lots, actually, but we’re only listing the top ten (along with some cast and director suggestions).

The Strange And Surprising Career Of Cameron Diaz

June 23rd, 2011 1:00pm EDT
Cameron Diaz
Cameron Diaz is anything but a predictable actor. This Friday, “Bad Teacher” opens and will showcase Diaz’s R-rated comedy skills opposite Justin Timerlake and Jason Segel, an alumnus of the Judd Apatow school of raunchy humor. Directed by Jake Kasdan (“Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story”), Diaz stars as the world’s worst teacher who would rather get high in her car than teach her kids anything. While most moviegoers see her as just a pretty face who pops up in mediocre films, Diaz has had an incredibly unique and varied career in Hollywood over the last two decades.

Her breakthrough role ca...

Where the Wild Things Are - Buy it

Spike Jonze's masterpiece feels like a Jonze movie (Being John Malkovich, Adaptation) in that it blurs the line between reality and fiction. The beasts - created by Jim Henson's Creature Shop - have to be seen to be believed. Max Records stars as the rebellious young Max, backed by a phenomenal supporting cast including the voice talents of James Gandolfini and Catherine O'Hara. The Yeah Yeah Yeahs' Karen O supplies one of the best soundtracks of the year, freshly snubbed...

Where the Wild Things Are
Visionary director Spike Jonze brings Maurice Sendak's beloved children's book to the big screen with the help of hipster icon Dave Eggers, who teamed with Jonze to pen the adapted screenplay.

A mixture of real actors, computer animation, and live puppeteering, "Where the Wild Things Are" follows the adventures of a young boy named Max as he enters the world of the Wild Things, a race of strange and enormous creatures who gradually turn the young boy into their king.

"Let the wild rumpus start!" King Max rules a wondrous realm of gigantic fuzzy monsters – but being king may not be as car...

Trailer Talk: This Week In Movies - 'Saw VI,' 'Vampire's Assistant' & More

Cirque du Freak
Last Tuesday, I had a chance to see "Where the Wild Things Are." Visually the film is stunning; it integrates handheld camera shots in the appropriate moments to take viewers into the action. Jim Henson's Creature Shop makes the monsters of the movie look incredibly convincing, and the composite animation of their faces matches up well.

Spike Jonze and Dave Eggers do a fantastic job of stretching a 10 page children's book into a movie that doesn't distort the message of the book, but still gives audiences something fresh. One of the most fascinating aspects of the creatures the hero M...

Spike Jonze aficionados have been waiting a long time to see his latest project "Where the Wild Things Are" come to fruition. The release has been delayed over a year while Jonze fought through creative differences with Warner Brothers to make a picture both loyal to the Maurice Sendak's book and appealing to the general public.

In addition to Jonze's dark imaginary childhood tale, the films coming to theaters this week include "The Stepfather," "Law Abiding Citizen," "New York, I Love You," and "Black Dynamite."

A Look At 'Where the Wild Things Are'

April 10th, 2009 1:00pm EDT
Where The Wild Things Are
A beloved children's book from the 1960s is finally getting a release date for its feature-length film adaptation. "Where The Wild Things Are" is a simple story of a boy, Max, who acts up and is sent to bed with no supper and winds up entering the world of the Wild Things. The book's illustrations walk the line between cool and creepy, and the film's live-action mixed with puppetry promise to yield a visually stunning piece. But we'll have to wait until October 16, 2009, to find out.

Maurice Sendak wrote and illustrated the playful, innocent classic back in 1963. "Where The Wild Things...

Is Nicolas Cage Washed Up or Just Making Bad Decisions?

In 1996 Nicolas Cage stood on stage at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion and accepted his first, and currently only, Oscar for his tour de force performance in Mike Figgis' Leaving Las Vegas. This past year, while starring in Neil LaBute's ill-fated remake of the British horror classic The Wicker Man, Cage, donning a grizzly bear costume, punched a woman in the face.

There are two sides to Nicolas Cage-the go-to superstar with the droopy eyes and smug demeanor and Cage the talented, easily forgotten actor. Unfortunately the latter, Academy Award winning Cage persona is a distant memory a...
