Eddie Murphy Confirmed As 2012 Oscar Host
Eddie Murphy has been confirmed as the host of the 2012 Oscars.

Telecast producers Brett Ratner and Don Mischer made the official announcement on Tuesday just days after the Rush Hour director made it clear that the funnyman was his first choice to host the 84th annual awards show in February.

Ratner says, "Eddie is a comedic genius, one of the greatest and most influential live performers ever. With his love of movies, history of crafting unforgettable characters and his iconic performances - especially on stage - I know he will bring excitement, spontaneity and tremendous heart to the s...

Silver Screen Pin-Up Jane Russell Dies At 89

February 28th, 2011 8:49pm EST
Jane Russell
Movie icon Jane Russell has died at the age of 89.

The actress passed away from respiratory problems in her Santa Maria, California home on Monday.

The silver screen sex symbol became an overnight sensation in 1943 when she starred in The Outlaw, and went on to play Calamity Jane opposite Bob Hope in The Paleface. Her most famous role was perhaps opposite Marilyn Monroe in 1953's Gentlemen Prefer Blondes.

Russell was also the number one pin-up girl of U.S. troops stationed overseas during World War Two, and her curvy figure earned her the role of an early spokesmodel for Playtex bras.

Oscar Producers: 'James Franco & Anne Hathaway Personify Next Generation Of Hollywood Icons'

November 30th, 2010 11:09am EST
James Franco & Anne Hathaway
It's that time of year again--time to announce the Academy Award host. I hear the groans already. Before you fire off a letter to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, you need to understand one thing. The Academy does not choose the host, it is the job of the Executive Producers to find the perfect host for the show. Did you stare at the TV screen hoping for a laugh from Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin last year? Blame Adam Shankman and Bill Mechanic. Were Jon Stewart's two trips to the host podium a bore for you? Well, that was a Gil Cates decision twice over.

Yesterday, Anne H...

'Sex And The City 2' Will Be An Old-Fashioned Surprise

April 7th, 2010 10:01am EDT
Kim Cattrall, Cynthia Nixon, Sarah Jessi
Sex and the City 2 seems like it would be reliable enough. It’s the sequel to a movie based on a TV show, so the format is pretty well established. Co-star Willie Garson, who plays Stanford Blatch, gave it an intriguing twist when he described the new adventure of Carrie Bradshaw.

“I think it’s like a wartime comedy,” Garson said. “It’s like a Bing Crosby/Bob Hope road comedy and I think people will really respond to it. I know the fans will love it. I hope that we bring in some more. Who knows?”

The first Sex and the City movie gave all the series regulars an equal part, and the supporti...

Woody Allen, Larry David, Evan Rachel Wood & Others Discuss 'Whatever Works'

June 16th, 2009 10:00am EDT
Whatever Works
Woody Allen, Larry David, Patricia Clarkson and Evan Rachel Wood sat down to discuss their new film, "Whatever Works," in theaters June 19. I asked Woody if any changes were made to the script -- a script he wrote in the 1970's -- with the casting of Larry David and asked Larry if he ever felt too much "Larry David" was ever coming out in his performance. Also discussed is their love -- or in Larry David's case, disdain, -- for New York and the slim possibilities that a Woody Allen film will ever be adapted for Broadway.

Mike: When Larry David was cast, did you re-write anything to take ...

Muppets Forever: The House That Henson Built

September 30th, 2008 11:46am EDT
Sesame Street
For nearly 40 years Jim Henson’s Muppets have captivated audiences young and old, whether down the block on Sesame Street, from backstage on their own syndicated variety show, or even on the big screen. They’ve earned fans in Kanye West, Feist, Weezer, and Jason Segel, who’s been commissioned to bring them back to the moviehouse. This is the story of Jim Henson and how he built his beloved empire from a discarded housecoat and a pair of ping-pong balls.

When I lived in L.A., one of my favorite pastimes was walking up La Brea Avenue toward Hollywood Boulevard. Amid the hip boutiques, ch...
