Moviemaker Tom Hooper is convinced his Les Miserables stars Anne Hathaway and Hugh Jackman used the Oscars to audition for roles in his ambitious production.

The King's Speech director was mulling over his cast choices when he caught Hathaway serenading Jackman while co-hosting the 2011 Academy Awards - and he immediately knew the stars would be perfect as his Fantine and Jean Valjean.

Taylor Swift and Amanda Seyfried are in talks to complete the star-studded cast of director Tom Hooper's "Les Miserables" movie adaptation.

The singer and the "Mamma Mia!" star are set to join Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, Sacha Baron Cohen, Anne Hathaway, Eddie Redmayne and Helena Bonham Carter in the much-anticipated film musical, which is scheduled to start shooting this spring.

Theatre news website BroadwayWorld.com has confirmed that Swift is in negotiations to play Eponine and Seyfried is slated to play Cosette in the project.

Russell Crowe Joins 'Les Miserables' Film

Russell Crowe is to join Hugh Jackman in the movie adaptation of hit musical Les Miserables.

Crowe has been in talks to play Inspector Javert in the project for months, and now sources tell trade paper Variety he has signed on for the role.

The King's Speech's Tom Hooper will direct the film, which has a release date of December 12, 2012. Although not known for his musical skills, Crowe did front rock band Thirty Odd Foot of Grunts.

Reports suggest Jackman is trying to persuade Anne Hathaway to sign on to play prostitute Fantine in the movie musical.

Oh, the pesky business of predicting Oscar winners. Depending on Academy voters’ moods, a pundit can come off as brilliant or dumb as a post. This seems to be an awfully predictable year – but be warned, that could mean upsets are in the air.

That said, here are my predictions for who will take home the gold at this Sunday’s Academy Awards in the major categories. I’ve devised my own odds system, which is completely made up; but, it does give a sense of how strongly I view the chances of each nominee.
