William Holden was the perfect Leading Man. Holden worked with some of the screen's greatest leading ladies: Susan Hayward, Kim Novak, Audrey Hepburn, Jennifer Jones, Faye Dunaway, Judy Holliday, Grace Kelly, et al, and his great mentor Barbara Stanwyck.

Holden had an astonishing run in the l950's with an Oscar for "Staalag 17" and a series of box office hits in "Picnic", "Bridges of Toko Ri" "The Country Gir" "Love Is A Many Splendored Thing" "Sabrina" and ended the decade with one of his greatest hits: "The Bidge On The River Kwai" for which he smartly negotiated a deferred payment plan that netted him millions of dollars.

Along with the great Leading Ladies above Holden worked with such Hollywood legends as David Lean, Humprhey Bogart, Steve McQueen, Paul Newman, Peter Finch, Fred Astaire, et al.

My favorite film of Holden's is "Sunset Blvd" Wilder's great masterpiece with Holden co starring with Gloria Swanson in what I feel is the finest film performance on sceen given by a Female.

One of Holden's last films that I enjoy very much is Billy Wilder's "Fedora". A great film that was distributed by Allied Artists just before that studio went out of business, few saw the film. Seen today on DVD or on TCM it is a marvelous film.

Holden was a true movie star but did appear on "I Love Lucy" in one of Lucille Ball's funniest shows.

One of Holden's great legacies other than his fine film work is the Bill Holden Wildlife Refuge in Kenya promoted by his last lov
