Actor Philip Seymour Hoffman is in talks to join the cast of The Hunger Games sequel.

Hoffman is considering taking on the role of gamesmaker Plutarch Heavensbee in Catching Fire, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Miley Cyrus' new fiance Liam Hemsworth will reprise their leading characters in the sequel to the record-breaking film, which will be directed by Francis Lawrence.

Hit musical Once is leading the way at this year's Tony Awards after scooping 11 nominations.

The popular show has garnered nods across the board including the coveted Best Musical category at the 66th annual prize giving, which honors the best on Broadway. Once will go up against Leap of Faith, Newsies and Nice Work If You Can Get It for the top prize.

Charlize Theron is to be honored for her independent movie work at the upcoming Palm Springs Film Festival in California.

The Oscar-winning actress will receive the Variety Indie Impact Award at a star-studded gala event in January in recognition of her longtime support of independent film.

Theron, who has appeared in low-budget pictures such as North Country, In the Valley of Elah and The Burning Plain, follows in the footsteps of previous honorees Philip Seymour Hoffman and Mark Wahlberg.

She will be presented with the award on January 8th.

Radiohead star Jonny Greenwood has signed on to score Philip Seymour Hoffman and Amy Adams' new movie The Master.

The guitarist, who composed the soundtracks for There Will Be Blood, We Need to Talk About Kevin and Norwegian Wood, will work with jazz group Zed U on the project.

The film, set in the 1950s, will be directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, the man behind There Will Be Blood.

Greenwood has also previously provided music for Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and Children of Men.

This weekend has an interesting match-up for the box office: George Clooney’s “The Ides of March,” a sure Oscar contender, vs. “Real Steel,” a robot boxing film starring Hugh Jackman. In “Ides,” Clooney, who directed and co-wrote the screenplay, stars as a promising presidential candidate whose young, idealistic aid (Ryan Gosling) sees the dark underbelly of what political campaigns are really about. The end of the year is always the most exciting time for true movie lovers as the studios release the films they hope to compete in the race for the many awards shows that will happen early next year. This September will have some decent films to choose from (namely "Contagion" and "Drive"), but with a greater amount of less-than-impressive fare than is normally seen. Production on hit TV series Gossip Girl and Philip Seymour Hoffman's new movie A Late Quartet was halted on Thursday, after a massive snow storm struck New York City.

Every year, the Oscar nominations seem all sewn up. There are so many predictors – winners of critics’ awards, Golden Globe nominees and winners, BAFTA nominees and the SAG nominees.
