Ethan Hawke And Patricia Arquette Watch Their Youth Wither Away Before Their Very Eyes In 'Boyhood'

July 7th, 2014 11:57am EDT
Ethan Hawke And Patricia Arquette Watch Their Youth Wither Away
Boyhood is an ambitious film 12 years in the making - that's right, 12 years, and you might have only just heard of it.

Boyhood made its' Sundance debut in January of this year. The film stars Ethan Hawke and Patricia Arquette as two parents raising raising their young son from childhood into adolescence, hence the umbrella-like title of "Boyhood." The story is primarily belonging to Mason (Ellar Coltraine) who the film introduces at age six, and ends with him leaving for college.

Director Richard Linklater says that this film was a project he had been hoping to take on for some time, st...

'The Purge' Sequel Already In Development

June 11th, 2013 7:33pm EDT
The Purge
A sequel to Ethan Hawke's latest thriller The Purge is in development after becoming a surprise hit at the box office.

Last weekend the film, set in a future where all crimes are legalized for a 12-hour period, scared up a storm when it debuted at number one with takings of $34 million, easily recouping its modest $3 million production budget.

According to Variety, Executives at Universal Studios, the company behind The Purge, are now pressing ahead with a follow-up and are hoping to get the project up and running in California by the end of the year to take advantage of a $2.25 million...

'The Purge': What The Critics Are Saying

June 7th, 2013 6:12pm EDT
The Purge
Forget The Hunger Games when it comes to government sanctioned murder -- this weekend's The Purge is set to eradicate an overpopulated 2022 America by offering citizens 12 hours of guilt-free criminal activity, no strings attached.

Anything goes in the horror flick, written and directed by James DeMonaco -- including the reviews, most of which aren't that great.

Critics are calling it a run-of-the-mill home invasion movie, poorly shot and lacking anything new for the horror genre. But the film is expected to top the box office this weekend, because horror fans always show up to the latest...

Ethan Hawke: 'The Best Onscreen Kiss I Ever Had Was Angelina Jolie'

June 1st, 2013 12:30pm EDT
Ethan Hawke
Ethan Hawke was left weak in the knees after kissing Angelina Jolie in 2004 thriller "Taking Lives."
Over the years, the actor has steamed up the big screen with several beautiful actresses, but he says locking lips with Brad Pitt's fiancee was the most memorable.
He told chat show "Watch What Happens Live," "The best onscreen kiss I ever had was Angelina Jolie... Angelina Jolie was born to whittle men, to make them weak. And when she kisses you, you don't know your name."

"Taking Lives" centered on a top FBI profiler (Jolie) who finds herself on a twisted and terrifying journey, surro...

Ethan Hawke Slams The Oscars For Rewarding 'Mediocre Performers'

February 22nd, 2013 11:21am EST
Ethan Hawke
Ethan Hawke has branded the Oscars "destructive" and "fake" in a scathing criticism of the Hollywood awards season just days before the movie industry's biggest prize giving.

The two-time Oscar nominee, who received nods for 2001's Training Day and 2004 romance Before Sunset, fears the annual tradition of handing out prizes is detrimental to the industry because it encourages such a fiercely competitive culture.

He is also convinced the Academy Awards have very little value because they have been won by so many "stupid movies" and "mediocre performers" over the years.

In an interview ...

Ethan Hawke's Off-Broadway Show Gets Scathing Reviews

February 8th, 2013 11:53am EST
Ethan Hawke
Hollywood actor Ethan Hawke has failed to win over critics with his latest turn on the New York stage - his production of Clive has been branded "misguided" and "pretentious".

The Training Day star has returned in an Off-Broadway production of Clive, a modern update of Baal by Bertolt Brecht, which he also directs, playing a rock star on the path to self destruction.

However, Hawke's production has been hit with a slew of negative reviews from New York's notoriously tough theater critics after it opened at Manhattan's Acorn Theater on Thursday.

Ethan Hawke Refuses To Fix His Crooked Teeth & Become A Pod Person

October 10th, 2012 9:33am EDT
Ethan Hawke
A former agent once asked Ethan Hawke to fix his crooked teeth, but the actor refused to blend in with other "fake" celebrities.

Hawke hasn't had any dental procedures to make a perfect smile, and he likes it that way. He told Britain's Daily Telegraph, ""I watched the Oscars on TV a few years ago, and they all looked like they were pod people. They looked so fake. And then crazy Sean Penn got on stage, and I thought to myself, 'There's a human being.' And people wonder why his heart is so beautiful and so transcending - because he's not afraid to be a human being. And I thought, I'm not g...

Ethan Hawke Turned Down 'Batman'

September 15th, 2011 8:39pm EDT
Ethan Hawke
Actor Ethan Hawke has revealed he once turned down the chance to play Batman.

The Before Sunrise star, who was married to one-time Batman villain Uma Thurman, was offered the role of the Caped Crusader after Michael Keaton stepped away from the role, but he opted out.

He tells Details magazine, "This was after Tim Burton's (Batman films), before the bad period. I just didn't want to go to the (New York) Knicks (basketball) game and have everybody go, 'Wow, you were a great Batman!' That wasn't my f**king goal in life. Now I wish I'd done it, because I could have used it to do other things...

NASA Scientists Slam '2012'

January 3rd, 2011 10:51am EST
NASA scientists have named John Cusack's blockbuster 2012 as the most "absurd" sci-fi film of all time.

Experts at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) put together a list of the least plausible science fiction movies ever made, and the big budget 2009 picture came top. The film, which depicted Earth besieged by natural disasters, featured ahead of two more 'end-of-the-world' movies - 2003's The Core and 1998's Armageddon.

Donald Yeomans, head of NASA's Near-Earth Asteroid Rendezvous mission, says of 2012, "It's absurd. The film-makers took advantage of public worrie...

October 31st, 2010 2:31pm EDT
Ethan Hawke
Actor Ethan Hawke took to the stage in New York on Thursday to honor the city's hardworking employees at a charity gala.

The "Training Day" star hosted the Doe Fund's event to celebrate the Men in Blue's Willing and Able Program, which helps former prisoners and the homeless gain work.

Hawke recently visited the scheme's trainees and the actor admits he was inspired by the men who entered the program.

He explains, "I see the adversity these men have gone through and their subsequent triumphs, and I am filled with awe. It humbles me. It makes me love this city and the people in it. Our ne...

Is Chris Massoglia The Next Zac Efron?

September 13th, 2010 2:00pm EDT
Chris Massoglia
Chris Massoglia is quickly making a name for himself (it's pronounced muh-SO-lee-uh), with a big break in Cirque Du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant and an upcoming role in The Hole. So what's keeping him from becoming the next Zac Efron?

"I can't sing, so... I don't know if I will be doing any musicals," says Massoglia with a laugh.

All kidding aside, The Hole director Joe Dante has shown a knack for finding young talent - casting a 16 year-old Kirsten Dunst in Small Soldiers, a pre-Goonies Corey Feldmen for Gremlins, and Ethan Hawke in 1985's Explorers. Dante says that Chris stood out t...

Ethan Hawke Witnesses Killing

March 4th, 2010 8:56pm EST
Ethan Hawke
Actor Ethan Hawke is still reeling after witnessing his first hit on the mean streets of Brooklyn, New York - two people were killed while he was dining out.

The "Training Day" star was shooting new movie "Brooklyn's Finest" in one of New York's roughest neighborhoods when he stopped to visit a diner with cast and crew - and while he was eating, four men gunned down two victims in a barber shop.

He recalls, "It's not even a joke... it was a full-blown assassination and they accidentally killed the guy cutting his hair - it was a woman cutting his hair. It was terrible.

"I stood there, li...

Trailer Talk: This Week In Movies - 'Alice In Wonderland,' 'Brooklyn's Finest' & More

March 1st, 2010 10:02am EST
Alice In Wonderland
Kevin Smith’s “Cop Out” turned out to be a delightful action comedy in the vein of typical buddy cop movies from the 80s and early 90s. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I laughed throughout the film. This was primarily due to hilarious performances from Tracy Morgan and Sean William Scott. To read more about what I thought of “Cop Out” check out my Starpulse review here.

The first week of March delivers to theaters Tim Burton’s long awaited whimsical tale “Alice in Wonderland,” the gritty cop drama “Brooklyn’s Finest,” and the NYC release of the animated feature “The Secret of ...

February 25th, 2010 2:23pm EST
Director Antoine Fuqua recruited New York gang members to protect stars Richard Gere, Wesley Snipes, Don Cheadle and Ethan Hawke on the set of their new movie Brooklyn's Finest.

The movie follows a trio of drug cops in a rough New York neighborhood and was filmed on location in the deprived area of Brownsville. Fuqua admits he feared for the safety of his cast and crew during the shoot.

He tells WENN, "We would be filming and then you'd hear gunfire and people running up the street. It was very real to be around a lot of that stuff. We were protected by some gang members that we had rel...

Ethan Hawke Talks 'Daybreakers', Contagious Passion And Pushing 40

January 13th, 2010 9:00am EST
Ethan Hawke
Remember when Ethan Hawke was the slacker in Reality Bites? How about the kid in Explorers? Yeah, we've seen Ethan Hawke at all ages so it's a bit of a shock to hear he's about to celebrate his 40th birthday. At least he's keeping it in perspective.

"It beats not turning 40," Hawke said. "That's the only way to look at it, don't you think? You know, as an actor, the lord giveth and the lord taketh away. This is a medium that is largely youth oriented and yet at the same time, I'm playing characters that are so much more appealing to me now. When I was younger, playing the guileless ingén...

January 4th, 2010 9:44am EST
A belated Happy New Year to all. I hope you each had happy holidays and got a chance to view all of the movies you wanted to see.

I haven't seen James Cameron's "Avatar" yet, although it's the top movie on my list right now. I've heard the film showcases some impressive visual effects, but that its dialogue and character development are not as strong. Regardless, I'm still anxious to see for myself.

2010 starts out with the release of "Daybreakers," "Youth in Revolt," "Leap Year," "Crazy on the Outside," "Wonderful World," and "Bitch Slap."

By 2017 a plague has ...

A Guide To Spotting Celebrities In New York City

April 14th, 2008 9:25am EDT
Sarah Jessica Parker
Imagine carrying loads of shopping bags while pushing aside walls of doe-eyed tourists, teenage Elle Woods' carrying baby Bruisers, and cell phone yelling brokers in Armani power suits. When three strangers from nowhere decide to casually stroll in your way, you lose patience and BAM!, you shove the middle man aside.

Only a few blocks later, you turn around and realize that you pushed third baseman for the Yankees Alex Rodriguez, who was slowly walking and chatting with two much shorter businessmen. This unfortunate incident actually occurred to one embarrassed New Yorker. Yet in th...
