September 17th, 2012 2:07pm EDT
Jay Pharoah as Barack Obama
Jay Pharoah made his debut as President Barack Obama this weekend on Saturday Night Live - after being introduced by the actor he replaced in the role, Fred Armisen. Ever since the phenomenal take on the 2000 election and the debates before it, the casting of comedic takes on presidential candidates has more buzz than the next James Bond. Here's a quick history of SNL's presidents:

Fred Armisen/Jay Pharoah: Barack Obama. SNL had a decision to make when it came to casting Obama for the upcoming 2008 election. Kenan Thompson was the only African American on the cast, but his heavy build wa...

Has Will Ferrell's Comedy Gone The Way Of The Dinosaur?

June 12th, 2009 10:17am EDT
Will Ferrell
Once upon a time, I used to think Will Ferrell was the funniest man alive. I watched him religiously as Alex Trebek in the "Saturday Night Live" celebrity "Jeopardy" sketches, chuckling as he suffered through the shenanigans of Darrell Hammond's Sean Connery.

Ferrell's impressions on "SNL" and wacky roles in movies like "Old School" and "Anchorman" perpetually kept me laughing. His characters had this special zany quality to them that made them extremely quotable.

I personally idolized his ability to make people laugh, and I respected that a man who studied broadcast journalism...

Chris Parnell Chats About SNL, '30 Rock,' Lindsay Lohan, Will Ferrell & More

February 12th, 2009 11:32am EST
Chris Parnell
In the circles I run in, "Ooh, now that's a hot lead" is something I hear quoted by my friends quite often, really, for any reason or occasion. It's just one of those things. Of course, this is one of Chris Parnell's lines from Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy. Naturally, I was (way too) excited to share this fact with Chris and, well, he (ahem) had no idea what I was talking about -- at least at first.

Regardless, Chris was nice enough to join me the day after his birthday and discuss everything from his time on Saturday Night Live, helping put YouTube on the map with "Lazy Sund...

Undecided This Election? Vote For Comedy

November 4th, 2008 12:41pm EST
Election comedy humor
Political humor has always been a mainstay of stand-up, late night, and sitcom writers. And the ratings always skyrocket in the year of a Presidential election, thanks to gaffes and guest appearances (and sometimes we’re lucky enough to have a few candidates with a sense of humor).

With every presidential race determined to be the most important of all, it's imperative that we as Americans take a step back and laugh at the process of selecting our President - as well as the "characters" seeking that office.

So who offers the best fodder for the next four years? Let’s take a look:...

For those of you who have been keeping score, it has been a long time since Saturday Night Live, once the premier, end all and be all of comedy on television, has held the clout it once demanded. Choosing 10 of the show's best cast members is not a task to be taken lightly. We looked at what qualities go into making a perfect cast member as opposed to just picking performers who went on to greater fame after they left the show (though sometimes this happened anyw...
