Armie Hammer refused to consider Fifty Shades of Grey role

June 19th, 2013 3:21pm EDT
Armie Hammer
Actor Armie Hammer rejected his agent's plans to put him forward for a role in the upcoming Fifty Shades Of Grey movie because he considers the erotic novel to be little more than "mommy porn".

The Social Network star has been among the names touted for the lead role of Christian Grey in a film adaptation of E. L. James' book, which is the first installment of a trilogy.

Hammer admits he hasn't been officially approached about the job, but he told his agent not to pursue the project.

He tells Playboy magazine, "No one actually offered me the movie, but while I was working on Lone Ranger ...

Armie Hammer
Actor Armie Hammer narrowly avoided expulsion at school after coming up with a cheeky money-making ploy to sell Playboy magazines to his fellow classmates.

The Social Network star thought he and a friend could make a little pocket money by capitalising on teenage boys going through puberty and they started supplying pals with the adult magazine - complete with a little lotion for lubrication.

Their scam was soon exposed and school teachers demanded to see the contents of Hammer's locker - but the young entrepreneur was already one step ahead of them and his clever scheme saved him from be...

Third And Final Trailer For Disney's 'The Lone Ranger' Promises Lots Of Action

April 19th, 2013 11:14am EDT
The Lone Ranger
Disney's third and final trailer for this July's surefire blockbuster The Lone Ranger was released on Thursday and it looks awesome!

Johnny Depp, who stars in the film as Tonto, and director Gore Verbinski were on hand at this year's CinemaCon in Las Vegas, where movie theater owners gather to get the latest info on upcoming films and technology, to share 20 minutes of footage of the film with cinema bosses. Unfortunately we'll all have to wait until July 3 to see any of that footage.

Based on the characters that were introduced by Detroit's WXYZ radio in 1933, the story begins with the ...

Armie Hammer has been hailed a hero after coming to the rescue of a woman involved in a traffic accident on Friday.

The Social Network star was driving through Los Angeles when he witnessed the crash and pulled over to help a woman get out of her smashed car.

His heroics were witnessed by model Leeann Tweeden, who also rushed to the scene after hearing the collision from her nearby home, and she later took to her Facebook.com page to blog about her experience.

She writes, "I was sitting in my house when I hear an accident tonight. I throw on my shoes and run out of my house to see if ...

The First 'Lone Ranger' Trailer Is Here!

October 3rd, 2012 9:17am EDT
Lone Ranger
After months of anticipation, and one much-buzzed about tease at Comic-Con, the world was finally treated to the first trailer for Johnny Depp's high octane western "The Lone Ranger" last night.

And all we can say is: Hi-Yo Silver! And Away!

Of course, there were a few surprises in the trailer, the main one being that the star of the film seems to be neither Armie Hammer (who plays the titular masked vigilante) nor Depp (who plays his unexpectedly fierce Native American partner Tonto) but rather an assortment of lovingly filmed trains. The trailer does play out just a little bit like the...

Two Jews' Review 'Mirror Mirror' And Only One Feels The Happily Ever After (Video)

March 30th, 2012 11:00am EDT
Mirror Mirror
Two Jews on Film - By Joan Alperin Schwartz: Mirror, mirror on the wall, who's the fairest Of Us All? The answer to that question is definitely Miss Julia Roberts, who plays Snow White's (Lily Collins) evil stepmother/queen, in director Tarsem Singh's new film, 'Mirror Mirror'.

Ms. Roberts absolutely nails the part.

In fact, she is the only reason to see this remake of the classic fairytale. I think this is one of her best performances in a long time.

For those of you not familiar with the story (yes, it is possible) Snow White's daddy, the King (Sean Bean) disappeared one dark and storm...

Armie Hammer On Licking Julia Roberts' Face, Behaving In Hollywood And Riding His Vespa

March 29th, 2012 1:00pm EDT
Armie Hammer
Armie Hammer was the breakout star of The Social Network, although he might have had an unfair advantage since he played two characters. His memorable work as the Winklevoss twins bumped him into the covetable tier of young actors who can go for the juicy parts. He got to play J. Edgar’s closeted lover Clyde Tolson and now he’s playing the title role in The Lone Ranger. (Johnny Depp is his “sidekick” Tonto.)

This week he stars as Prince Charming in Mirror Mirror, a new take on the Snow White story. This prince is kind of a goofball, and when he falls under the evil queen (Julia Roberts)’ s...

Trailer Talk: This Week in Movies
Last week I was lucky enough to see an advanced screening of the Drew Goddard/Joss Whedon horror flick “The Cabin in the Woods,” which took SXSW by storm. Big budget franchise season arrived last week with the premiere of “The Hunger Games,” and continues this week with the release of the Greek action sequel “Wrath of the Titans.” Also coming out this week are the light-hearted Snow White picture...

First Look: Johnny Depp And Armie Hammer In 'The Lone Ranger'

We've got just one thing to say about the first photo from the upcoming film "The Lone Ranger:" Hi-yo, Captain Jack Sparrow! Away!

Not that this is the latest mashup from Seth Grahame-Smith or anything — though we'd love to see "Cowboys and Indians and Pirates" — but once you get a look at Johnny Depp as Tonto in this picture, you'll have to agree that some of the spirit of old Captain Jack is definitely present.

"The Lone Ranger," as you know, is a revival of the classic old west masked hero who reached the height of his popularity back in the '50s thanks to a hit TV show. Now he's bein...

For nearly 50 years, Hoover (DiCaprio) fought crime as one of the most powerful law enforcers in America. During Hoover's extended stint as Director of the FBI, however, his penchant for bending the law in the name of seeking justice and using the secrets of high-profile leaders to gain personal leverage won him just as many supporters as detractors.

Live From The Academy Award Nominations
Like last year, the Oscar Nominations announcement morning always proves to be an early morning. I was up at 2:15 AM to conquer the pinnacle of the awards show season, the Academy Awards. I was interested to see how the Academy would vote this year with a new voting system for Best Picture, no clear frontrunner in the race, and a plethora of names being bandied about in the acting categories. The Academy did not disappoint this year with fresh faces, a nod to comedy, and a surprising nine Best Picture nominees instead of the predicted six or eight nominees.

Review: 'J.Edgar' Lacking Identity

November 12th, 2011 11:26am EST
J. Edgar sizes up some men. Not in that way yet.
The gay love story occupies a curious place in the minds of populist cinema goers of late: Novelty. Throughout Clint Eastwood’s J. Edgar, the audience would snicker and laugh to one-another, just above their breath, at any sort of implication of romance between J. Edgar Hoover (Leonardo Dicaprio) and his life-long, possibly fabulous companion, Clyde Tolson (Armie Hammer). Just a scant few years ago audiences were actively protesting “Brokeback Mountain” and now they’re giddy like school girls during a 5th grade game of Spin-the-bottle. I suppose that’s progress.

What isn’t progressive, o...

Two Jews on Film - By Joan Alperin-Schwartz: Every once in awhile, you experience a performance by an actor that simply blows your mind. That's exactly what happened to me, when I watched Leonardo DiCaprio portray J. Edgar Hoover in Clint Eastwood's new film, 'J. Edgar.'

What makes a great performance are the subtle things an actor does. Things that inform the character… a gesture, a look, body language, the tilt of the head. DiCaprio obviously understands this because he absolutely nails the part.

Equally brilliant, is Armie Hammer (The Social Network) as Clyde Tolson, Hoover's long ti...
