'Heroes' Gets a Break

3/4/2009 9:27am EST
Claire has been hiding Alex in her closet. This week she brings him a sandwich on white bread after he specifically asked for wheat, apparently beggars can be choosers. Claire tells Alex he has to go to Albuquerque and start a new life where no one knows him. Alex doesn't want to trust the word of a high school kid. Claire reminds him, "If it wasn't for this high school girl you might already be dead, so if you want to survive you're gonna have to do exactly what I say." Alex likes an aggressive girl but before he can answer her Sandra confronts Claire about the disappearance of $300 in hou...

'Heroes' Plods Along

2/24/2009 2:48pm EST
This week's episode of Heroes takes us back before last week's episode in order to catch us up on things we already know. Parkman, Suresh and Peter talk at a motel before going over to drug HRG. Suresh thinks it's dangerous to be out in the open. Parkman reminds the men that they did nothing wrong and they were captured anyway. Then we're back in the bar with HRG as he is drugged and passes out. Parkman, Suresh and Peter pick him up off the floor and take him away.

While HRG is drugged Parkman goes into his mind and fishes around for answers. We're transported to five weeks earlier to ...

'Heroes' Recap: Building 26

2/17/2009 4:16pm EST
Claire is stuck back at home with her "happy" family. She and HRG are lying to Claire's Mom about going on an Ivy League college tour instead of telling her they were a part of covert government plot to take down people with special abilities. Claire leaves the breakfast table and runs off to her room to have a tantrum. HRG follows and chastises her. Claire says, "And now's the part where you tell me everything you do you do to protect me." Instead HRG tells her she's going to go to community college or there's going to be hell to pay. So basically Claire is in a prison of her own making. E...

'Heroes' Crashes and Burns

2/3/2009 2:02pm EST
Paul Greengrass must have designed the sloppy first episode of the new "Heroes" Chapter because they borrowed the cinematography from "The Bourne Ultimatum" and they really should give it back. NBC is apparently hurting for money and it looks as if they cut the budget for this floundering show. In response the writers decided to cut as much dialog and character development as possible and insert clichéd action sequences in which the heroes are captured by HRG backed by Nathan Petrelli. To further stretch the dwindling funds they also shot everything through a pinhole camera and succeeded in...

'Heroes' Makes Amends

12/16/2008 3:38pm EST
Sylar gives the creepy opening in this episode of Heroes. Last week Peter tried to shoot his Father but only managed to give himself that notorious scar instead. Sylar finished the job and this week Nathan is picking up where dear Dad left off. Peter threatens to shoot his brother and again can't do it. So he punches him out instead and leaves with the gun.

HRG, Claire, Angela and Meredith are trying to leave Prymatech when Sylar puts the facility on lockdown with his mind. He decides he needs to torture all of them in order to show them that they are monsters, just like him.

'Heroes' Needs A Catalyst

12/9/2008 1:51pm EST
In this episode of Heroes, titled 'Our Father': Hiro and Claire go back sixteen years in order to change history and try to save the world, again. They listen in as Noah Bennett receives Claire as a baby. Then they see Hiro's Mom heal a sick dove and they both realize they can change history. Claire can convince HRG not to put the catalyst in her and Hiro decides he can receive the catalyst and protect it. They say this at the same time, to each other, except Hiro is speaking Japanese and Claire is speaking English.

Angela Petrelli convinces Peter to go with The Haitian and kill Arthur...

'Heroes' Comes Out of the Dark

12/2/2008 12:36pm EST
Peter and The Haitian track down The Haitian's brother, the impenetrable Godlike leader of a Haitian army named Baron Sandi. The Haitian demands to know why Peter tracked him down. Peter says, "I needed to know I could be a hero without my powers." So that's what all this tromping through the jungle has been about.

Claire's Mom takes Claire to the emergency room. She's infected badly. The infection looks really old. The ER nurse demands to know how long it's been since she was shot. Claire's Mom says it just happened. The nurse replies in disbelief, "Either she hasn't been sick in her ...

'Heroes' Gets Eclipsed

11/25/2008 12:25pm EST
Everyone's obsessed with the coming eclipse on Heroes. Sylar and Elle practice electricity throwing. Elle says he's doing great. He says it's not good enough he, "needs to prove himself to someone." Elle probes, he says he's afraid she wouldn't understand so she drops it. Then Arthur walks in on them and tells Sylar he has an assignment for him, to go get the cheerleader. Sylar reveals that Arthur's his Dad, which Elle reacts to without letting him know she's reacting. Then Elle volunteer's to help because she was raised to be, "a company girl." Of course Arthur thinks the two of them are, ...

Latest 'Heroes' Ep Has Bad Writing, Predictable Plot Points

11/18/2008 12:52pm EST
So this pretentious episode of Heroes begins with a narration about the meaning of an eclipse being unknowable and divine yet somehow we all know that in the next episode it will all be magically revealed, oh yeah, because they've been advertising this whole thing since last week.

Arthur Petrelli stands in front of Hiro, his hands over Hiro's ears, squeezing Hiro's head, Hiro screams and screams and screams some more. Arthur says, "You had one job to do…never send a boy to do a man's job." What a load of bad writing. This obscure reference only makes sense when the camera drops back t...

'Heroes' Becomes 'Villains' For A Night

11/11/2008 9:05am EST
Apparently we all took the same sleeping pill, and while we were knocked out we had the same nightmare: that "Heroes" was going nowhere very fast, introducing new characters who we didn't care about because we knew nothing about them and creating plot scenarios which felt forced and clichéd.

Last night we all woke up. We had the chance to start the season over and watch the premiere of a new series called "Villains." It was much better than its "Heroes" counterpart. It had characters we knew and cared about, and it revealed back stories in an interesting and thought provoking way. It ...

Confusion Reigns On 'Heroes'

10/28/2008 9:19am EDT
This week's episode of Heroes began with Hiro and Ando still in Africa fighting over whether or not Hiro should go back in time in order to save the world. Hiro refuses to use his powers to go back in time because of the disastrous consequences of his last trip. Hiro says something worse could happen if he goes back in time again. Ando asks, "What could be worse than the end of the world?!" This episode.

After previously bad, boring and clichéd episodes during this rocky season we were given false hope last week that things were returning to previous season's standards of excellence. I...
