John Ford stands at the top of the list of great American Directors.

John Ford- all Irish- made some of the greatest films "The Searchers", "Grapes of Wrath" "The Quiet Man" and so many others. Ford directed the Civil War episode starring George Peppard and John Wayne in MGM's "How The West Was Won"

Ford had a particular eye for the American West and his shots of the West in some of the great Westersn rank up their with some of the finest ever made; Rembrant of the Screen.

Cranky, and Difficult John Ford worked with and demanded much of the greatest stars of Hollywood with the proven results of pure artistry.

Ford directed John Wayne in particular in a series of Films that brought great acclaim to Wayne as an actor and propelled him to being the biggest male star in the world in such films as "Stagecoach" "She Wore A Yellow Ribbon" "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance" "The Quiet Man".

John Wayne, Katharine Hepburn, James Stewart, Maureen O'Hara, Henry Fonda,Tyrone Power, Jeffrey Hunter are among the stars whose work reached the pinnacles of their careers under John Ford's direction. Ford cast his pictures very well.

John Ford used many of the same character actors in all his movies and they were famously referred to as the "Ford Stock Company"

Ford was a devout Catholic and the only AFI Award Winner receipient to have a US President (Nixon) attend his American Film Institute Award Dinner also attended by Wayne, Fonda, O'Hara et al.
