Will Adrien Brody Be Eaten Alive in 'Predators'?

July 8th, 2010 9:49am EDT
Predators - Adrien Brody
When people think of action movie stars, one of the last names that comes to mind is Adrien Brody, Academy Award-winner for “The Pianist” and hip-hop enthusiast. After this summer though, that perception or lack of confidence may change. On July 9 Brody will appear in “Predators,” the new chapter in the “Predator” franchise, as Royce the leader of a band of humans who find themselves on the Predators’ home planet.

Brody has had an incredibly diverse career as an actor and has worked with such filmmakers as Roman Polanski, M. Night Shyamalan, Wes Anderson and Peter Jackson. Clearly, Brody c...

Adrien Brody Attempts To Be An Action Star In 'Predators'

July 6th, 2010 12:03pm EDT
Adrian Brody
When you think action star, does Adrien Brody come to mind? Not really. But that's the role he's tackling in the Robert Rodriguez film "Predators," which opens in theaters on Friday, July 9. Also on board: Topher Grace (huh?), Laurence Fishburne and Danny Trejo.

Arnold Schwarzenegger starred in the original movie as the leader of a special forces unit. And he was bad ass. The film was an international box office hit and had a sequel starring Danny Glover. In 2004, "Aliens vs. Predator" came out and made nearly $200 million dollars worldwide.

The plot of the latest incarnation involves a h...

A Look At The 'Predator' Franchise

April 20th, 2010 11:10am EDT
Predators 2010
There are few science fiction horror franchises as popular and well known as the Predator series. It came out only a year after James Cameron's equally well received series Aliens began, and the two franchises inspired dozens of films, TV shows, comic books, and horror novels afterward. Man vs. the wild became man vs. an alien creature, and the predator specifically is one of the most terrifying monsters to ever cross the big screen. Intelligent, powerful, and stealthy, the Predator hunts down humans or aliens alike and killing them with a single minded intensity. decided to t...

Adrien Brody & Robert Rodriguez Bring 'Predators' Sneak Peek To SXSW (Video)

March 15th, 2010 10:29am EDT
Predators 2010 sneak peak
Adrien Brody, the unlikely star of the long-awaited monster sequel Predators, came to Austin, TX for the South by Southwest (SXSW) film festival. Austin filmmaker Robert Rodriguez, who produced the film, showed some footage to the film festival fans, and Brody showed up to meet the press.

As surprising as it may be to imagine the thin, lanky actor fighting seven foot tall rasta predators, it might also be a shock that the Oscar-winning star of The Pianist was a die hard Preadtor fan. “When Predator came out in ’88, I was a freshman in high school,” Brody said. “I was with my boys sneaking ...

November 30th, 2009 10:04am EST
Tomorrow evening I will have the opportunity to see Jason Reitman's new travel comedy "Up in the Air" starring George Clooney. I have read a number of early favorable reviews of the film, and I really like Reitman's movies, so I'm fairly excited.

Comedy seems to prevail as a common theme this week. At the box office there will be two dramas and three comedies. Two of the films premiering are American adaptations of foreign films. In addition to "Up in the Air" films opening this week include "Armored," "Brothers," "Everybody's Fine," "Serious Moonlight," and "Transylmania."

Spotlight On Films In Which Technology Has Gone Awry: Our Grim Future Awaits

September 23rd, 2009 12:43pm EDT
As we look forward to the future, we are hopeful that technology and the overall standard of living will continue to improve. Many films set in the distant or even in the more immediate future paint it as a grim place where our dependence on technology has blinded us to our own humanity.

We are reminded that technology yields great power and that great power can corrupt our souls. Films portraying this version of our future are meant to provoke commentary about the ethical dilemmas the characters face and to help steer humanity in a more thoughtful direction.

With the movie "Surroga...

March 10th, 2009 11:54am EDT
Laurence Fishburne
Laurence Fishburne nearly turned down his role in hit crime drama CSI: Crime Scene Investigation - because he can't stand the sight of blood.

The actor has taken on a lead role in the long-running forensics series, which regularly features gory murders and dead bodies.

But Fishburne admits he had reservations about the job, because some of the show's content makes him feel queasy. He says, "I'm not good with that stuff. They gave me a few books at the outset and I opened one of them, saw some pretty intense photos and immediately closed the book."

Fashion Blunders Of The Week: Emmy Awards

September 26th, 2008 10:00am EDT
Phoebe Price
One of the greatest things about watching awards shows is critiquing the fashion. And although best dressed lists are fun, the worst dressed lists are even more entertaining. Check out some stars who should have looked in a mirror before leaving their homes:

Alan Cumming

There is so much wrong here it's hard to know where to start. Perhaps the mixing of brown plaid with neon green? Or maybe the flyaway bangs paired with shaved skull? Ick.

Phoebe Price

We're not really sure who Phoebe is, but she appears at a lot of awards shows. First, what's with the...

September 23rd, 2008 10:07am EDT
Spike Lee
Moviemaker Spike Lee's plans of turning Kanye West into a film star have hit a snag - no one wants to fund the film.

The director has penned what he thinks is "a very good script" for the sequel of his 1988 movie School Daze - and he wants West to star in the film with Alicia Keys.

But no one likes the idea. He says, "The film takes place at the same college but 25 years later, but the powers that be didn't want to tell that story. It was gonna have Kanye in it and Alicia Keys."

The original School Daze starred Laurence Fishburne, Giancarlo Esposito and Tisha Campbell-Martin....

'21': An Entertaining Thriller

March 28th, 2008 11:19am EDT
So, I couldn't help but wait for Jim Sturgess, the dashing leading actor in 21, to break out into a full-fledged Beatles cover of "I've Just Seen a Face," one of the several numbers he killed as the Paul McCartney equivalent in last year's tour de ummmmm, Across the Universe. He settles down into a generally believable American accent, or totally believable if you don't know he's British, and cascades through the emotions of any young protagonist put to screen. 'Yeah,' I keep thinking, 'But where's The Beatles, man?' Seriously though, with all jokes aside, 21 turns out to be if nothing else...
