The world probably didn't need another film version of John Waters' 1988 romp ''Hairspray'' any more than it needed a Broadway musical version of it. The whole cycle reeks of that movie-of-a-stage-production-of-a-movie debacle that has tainted the legacy of ''The Producers.''

Bob Saget's spoof Farce Of The Penguins has begun to attract major talent in the starring voiceover roles as well as a veritable Who's Who of comedy in its many cameos. Samuel L. Jackson has been signed to narrate the picture. Lewis Black, Mo'Nique, and Tracy Morgan will voice the three lead penguins along with writer/director Saget, who will play the lovelorn main character.

The League of American Theatres and Producers, Inc. has reported that Broadway has grossed a record-breaking $825 million in New York for the 2005 calendar year -- the highest grossing calendar year in history for Broadway.
