'Top Gear' (USA) Recap And Review: 'Cool Cars For Grownups' - Minivans Cause Mayhem

July 9th, 2014 9:06am EDT
'Top Gear' (USA) Recap And Review: 'Cool Cars For Grownups' - Mi
We couldn't have described this week's Top Gear any better than Adam Ferrara did: It's "responsible cars, not so responsibly." Adam, Tanner Foust and Rutledge Wood try to pretend that they're mature adults when they're sent to Denver to see if you can drive a car that is both fun and practical.

Adam brings an AMG Mercedes, while Tanner shows up in a Porsche Cayenne Turbo S, and Rutledge arrives in a Honda Odyssey, because minivans are cool when Rutledge Wood is driving them - and when they've been souped up to have a thousand horsepower. Rut immediately leads his confused colleagues on a m...

'Top Gear' (USA) Recap And Review: 'Off Road Big Rigs' - Logging Disasters

'Top Gear' (USA) Recap And Review: 'Off Road Big Rigs' - Logging
When somebody gave the British Top Gear hosts big rigs, they just crashed through a bunch of stuff and hurt themselves. Is the American version going to be any different? Erm...who are we kidding?

Adam, Tanner and Rutledge have decided to join the timber hauling industry, with the first one of the trio to reach their final destination to be declared the winner (of what, who knows - possibly some therapy). As Adam points out, the last time these guys went trucking, it went badly. There's plenty of room for improvement.

Once the obligatory race is out of the way (complete with Tanner gloati...

'Top Gear' (USA) Recap And Review: 'Snow Show' - Adam's On Fire
Fans of the British Top Gear will remember an episode in which the hosts built a snowplow out of a combine harvester and then accidentally destroyed anything it touched. Now it's the American show's turn to tackle the cold weather - and it's actually even wilder than the first time around.

This episode is actually more like a play on last season's "Doomsday Drive," except with a prize at the end. The guys must build the best possible snow-clearing machine, and whoever makes the most worthy contribution to their effort gets to drive a supercar against a snowmobile. Tanner shows up in Maine ...

'Top Gear' (USA) Recap: '80's Power' - Lou Ferrigno Guest Judges
There were a lot of things to love about the 1980's. Movies with Andrew McCarthy in them. Some of the music wasn't that bad. But the cars? Well, our Top Gear heroes are spending this week trying to prove that the cars were okay, too.

Given $5,000 to pick their ride of choice, the guys meet at a mall outside of Los Angeles for their usual "series of challenges leading to an ultimate winner" escapade. Rutledge turns up in a supercharged Toyota MR2, while Adam arrives in a Buick Grand National, and Tanner has the keys to such a Tanner-esque car: a bright red Chevy Camaro IROC-Z. Tanner thinks...

'Top Gear': Checking In With Adam Ferrara And Tanner Foust

'Top Gear': Checking In With Adam Ferrara And Tanner Foust
The fourth season of Top Gear just came roaring back, and already Adam Ferrara and Tanner Foust can't stop talking about it. We checked in with two-thirds of the TG hosting trio when they attended last week's E3 Expo (Rutledge Wood being on the road and unable to join us). Here are a few things Adam and Tanner spilled about what it takes to make Top Gear.

Firstly, tonight's episode is going to be an interesting one (as if they're ever not). "There are some stunts in this next episode," Tanner told us.

"There's the ones we know about and the ones that just happen," Adam corrected.

"Yeah,"...

'Top Gear' (USA) Recap: 'Desert Trailblazing' Gone Somewhat Wrong

'Top Gear' (USA) Recap: 'Desert Trailblazing' Gone Somewhat Wron
Honestly, who wouldn't want to take a road trip with the Top Gear guys? Adam, Tanner and Rutledge are three great people to spend time with...and when you put them all together, something wild usually happens. This week's adventure is no exception to that rule.

Our heroes are in Arizona with a trio of 4x4's, which must make it to the Colorado River within 48 hours and without GPS - which, honestly, might be a plus considering how wrong things went when they relied on GPS in "Doomsday Drive." It's like a modern-day version of The Oregon Trail, only hopefully no one is about to get cholera a...

'Top Gear' (USA) Recap: Testing Out 'Muscle Cars' In Florida
After some auto racing, a promotion and a baby, the guys from Top Gear are finally back with us for some more automotive adventures. This week's theme is American muscle cars, so naturally, the show opens with a race. "How insane was that?" Rutledge comments. "I'm so glad that road was closed."

They're in Gainesville, Florida - home of the University of Florida Gators - with three resto mods to put to the test. There's a 1967 Ford Shelby Mustang GT500 (courtesy of Tanner), a 1972 Dodge Charger SE (Rutledge), and a 1968 Chevy Camaro (Adam, duh). As the guys examine each other's rides, there...

Finish Line: 'Top Gear' Returns For More Season 4

June 3rd, 2014 12:15pm EDT
Top Gear
You can stop crying into your beer. After a six-month hiatus, History's Top Gear has mercifully returned with new episodes to make us laugh, smile and cry in the name of love of the automobile. From muscle cars to rally cars, the Grand Canyon to Germany, it's going to be one crazy summer.

To prepare for this momentous occasion, BFTV scoured the country (okay, the state of California) to catch up with hosts Adam Ferrara, Tanner Foust and Rutledge Wood, and talk a little Top Gear.

Are they as upended by the split seasons as we are? "It can be a little confusing," Rutledge laughed. "We're ve...

Adam Ferrara Returns In Season 6 Of 'Nurse Jackie'
That Jackie Peyton is one lucky gal.

The always hilarious, permanently awesome Adam Ferrara is now a series regular in Season 6 of Nurse Jackie, which kicks off tonight at 9 PM ET/PT on Showtime. He was recurring last season as NYPD officer Frank Verelli, who was determined to romance Jackie (award-winner Edie Falco).

In the new season, Frank and Jackie are still together - but Frank has no idea that Jackie has fallen off the wagon and is once again dealing with her addiction.

Adam is currently hard at work shooting new episodes of Top Gear for History, alongside co-hosts Rutledge Wood a...

'Top Gear' (USA): Season 4 Finale Chat With Adam Ferrara & Rutledge Wood

Top Gear USA
It's time to turn in the keys for another season. History's Top Gear wraps things up tonight, and to send off our favorite motoring show in style, BFTV sat down with two of the show's three hosts - the always hilarious Adam Ferrara and the ridiculously loveable Rutledge Wood - for one last question and answer session. (We can only assume Tanner Foust was somewhere continuing his plans for world domination.)

Now that we've reached the end of Season 4, what would you say you've learned from this season's episodes?

Adam: That homemade amphibious vehicles can sink very quickly!
Rutledge: Hmm....

'Top Gear' (USA) Recap: Airport Mayhem In 'Big, Bad Trucks'

November 19th, 2013 10:08pm EST
Top Gear USA
Following their evaluation of American supercars, Team Top Gear moves on to trucks. Adam, Tanner and Rutledge are testing a trio of luxury pickups by (say it with us) putting them through a series of challenges.

Their designated meeting point is in the San Gabriel Mountains. Rutledge has chosen a brand-new Toyota Tundra, Tanner goes for the Ford F-150, and Adam brings a Dodge Ram - pretty much the cross-section of trucks you'd expect. Shocking no one, they want to race these behemoths right from the start. A five-mile sprint from their starting location to the road five miles away ends wit...

Top Gear USA
Now that our Top Gear hosts have been deported back from Canada, it's time for them to turn their attention to electric cars. It's the usual shenanigans: show up in a locale (this time it's Michigan) with three different rides, put them through a series of challenges, and then the winner (probably Tanner) gets to drive some awesome, tangentially related supercar.

There's the Fiat 500E for Adam, the Nissan Leaf for Rutledge, and the Ford Focus Electric, which unsurprisingly goes to Tanner because he drives a Ford Fiesta on those days when he's obliterating other racers. While Rut is confuse...

'Top Gear' (USA) Recap: 'Can Cars Float?' Not Necessarily

October 29th, 2013 10:04pm EDT
Top Gear USA
After surviving their trip to Sturgis, the boys of Top Gear are back and posing an important question: "Can cars float?" Not well, if you ask the hosts of the UK version, who famously tackled amphibious cars not once, but twice. But that's not going to stop our guys from giving it a similarly well-intentioned but disastrous go.

Starting in Buffalo, New York, they must first pick their rides to be transformed. Adam is looking for toughness, so he selects a Jeep Wrangler. Rutledge opts for a Volkswagon Cabrio, because a convertible means he won't be stuck in there if the thing sinks. He read...

Tonight's premiere is called "Coast to Coast," so you can figure out the mission. But as always with Top Gear, it's less the destination and more the journey. Nurse Jackie returns to Showtime for its fifth season with more sharp witticisms - and with the bonus of having added some strong new performers to its cast.

Season five comes with some behind-the-scenes changes. It's the first since the departure of co-creator Liz Brixius, who wrote or co-wrote half of the previous cycle, including the season four finale. (Brixius retains a consulting producer credit.) As if Mammoth Mountain wasn't enough, the hosts of History's Top Gear are now going to tackle ice driving in Minnesota, which Tanner Foust describes as "one of the harshest environments in the country." Yep, the producers are really trying to kill these guys.

Trying to identify the perfect winter vehicle for under two thousand dollars, the hosts first have to get their chosen vehicles out from underneath piles of snow. What did they pick this time around? Adam has a Chevy Blazer S10, Tanner a Nissan 300ZX, and Rutledge a Subaru Legacy GT. After the usual round of disagreeing, all three car...

Top Gear likes to go big, and likes to do things the hard way. You had to figure they were going to tackle Mammoth Mountain at some point. Tanner points out that today's SUVs seem to be sorely lacking, and so the three hosts have decided to put them to a serious test: driving from Pismo Beach to the aforementioned mountain. He shows up in a Range Rover, Adam Ferrara gets a Cadillac (because "Adam" and "Cadillac" are always used in the same sentence), and Rutledge Wood rolls up in a Jeep.

After slinging insults and a reference to the Kardashians, the guys race each other to their first pit ...

In the great tradition of Top Gear Apocalypse comes Top Gear's "Doomsday Drive." Having been on location while this end-of-the-world challenge was coming together, this is a Top Gear to remember.

Considering there's a whole TV show about people preparing for the apocalypse, this is a perfect challenge for these guys, who haven't met a situation they can't handle (or somehow unintentionally complicate before handling). Cue Tanner rolling up in a massive military vehicle that he is clearly in love with. Unfortunately, it costs a cool $750,000. That's way out of the price range. Time for the ...

Adam starts off his show by introducing the audience to the 1966 Ford GT40 - and not just any GT40, but the specific GT40 which may be "one of the most important cars in American automotive history" due to its piece of racing history and happens to be worth more than eight million dollars. He's excited to drive it, but he's only allowed to go a whopping six feet. So what's ...

Being a taxi driver is no easy feat. Just ask Richard Hammond, who attempted to do just that in this season of Richard Hammond's Crash Course. Yet that's not going to stop the Top Gear hosting trio from trying. And earning a disclaimer that says "Local authorities monitored the filming of this show. No laws were broken."

Our heroes Adam Ferrara, Tanner Foust and Rutledge Wood are in Las Vegas, as Tanner tells us that being a taxi driver is supposedly one of the worst jobs in the country, partly because of the cars they're stuck with. It's therefore up to Adam, Tanner and Rutledge to fix th...

They're in the Mojave Desert to answer this question. Tanner informs us via voice-over that RVs are expensive, and so they decided that they ought to make ones that are both cheaper and fun to drive. His idea of this is of course, one that goes fast and drifts, so he brings us a 1983 Porsche with a giant rocket strapped to it, "because that is awesome."

Adam's response to this is a 1973 Buick that he's put a replica of New York Ci...

It's Adam who is likely to destroy your car, make you hurt yourself laughing, and yet you'd still trust him to watch your house when you go on vacation. The native New Yorker is the show's biggest personality, with a quip for each situation and an ability to laugh at everything too...even if (especially if) he caused it.

I'm a little bit partial to this week's episode of Top Gear, being that it was shot in my neck of the woods. The only thing more fun than watching automotive mayhem is watching it when you know where it is they're destroying.

The aim of this week's episode is for the hosts to take three cars which were commercial failures and try to turn them into cult classics in my hometown of San Diego, which is apparently a huge used-car market.
