13 Greatest Actors Turned Critically Acclaimed Directors
Very few actors are afforded success and fame in the brutally competitive film landscape. Those who miraculously do make have trouble-holding relevancy, as Hollywood trades aging veteran actors for relative and good-looking newcomers immediately destined to be the next big thing. But these screen presences who’ve been able to hold Hollywood’s attention even into their later years have also found a strong niche behind the camera, directing Oscar worthy films and Hollywood blockbusters that encapsulate audiences’ attention while reaping critics’ acclaim. Move over Scorsese and Spielberg, beca...

Filmmaker Jon Favreau is making a return to the Iron Man franchise - to reprise his onscreen role as Robert Downey, Jr.'s bodyguard sidekick.

However, Favreau hasn't cut all his ties to the upcoming sequel - he has been invited back to portray Happy Hogan once more, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

"You have to be very humble to start over," says Latin actress Ana de la Reguera when we connect very early on a Monday morning.

That's something she knows firsthand. She's just now arriving home after working through the night. It's not the kind of work schedule you'd expect for an actress who's considered "one of the most influential Latinas in the United States" according to Univision and who's been feted by - or on the cover of - various international publications like Glamour Mexico, Vogue Latinoamerica, and People en Espanol.

Whether it’s Will Ferrell’s loveable smile, the yellow tights, or the fact that you can laugh and be a kid again while watching the film- we can all agree that Elf is the greatest holiday movie since National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation or A Christmas Story. For those of you who live under a rock and have not seen Elf, it is a classic holiday movie starring Will Ferrell, who plays Buddy the elf and directed by Jon Favreau. When Buddy was a baby in an orphanage, he snuck into Santa’s sack and ended up in the North Pole with the rest of the elves. As he grew up, much taller and more manly th...

'Cowboys & Aliens': A Stiff Western Laced With Sci-Fi

July 31st, 2011 2:00pm EDT
Cowboys 2
Based on its name, “Cowboys & Aliens” sounds like a playful, genre-mashing romp, similar to something imagined by Tarantino or Rodriguez. “Iron Man” director Jon Favreau tries to prove though, that he can overcome these expectations, by telling a serious tale about cowboys fighting aliens. The fruit of Favreau's labors is a film which plays like a stiff western laced with science fiction.

It starts out promising: the camera pans across a desert landscape, where it is interrupted by a confused man (Daniel Craig) jolting awake. He has amnesia, but he's more alarmed by his open wound and t...

Review: 'Cowboys & Aliens' Is A Fun Romp That Lacks Heart

July 27th, 2011 9:00am EDT
Cowboys & Aliens
It seemed a great recipe for success: my favorite actor (Daniel Craig), one of film's iconic names (Harrison Ford), and one of my favorite directors (Jon Favreau). And it almost was. While Cowboys & Aliens is worth the price of admission, it's lacking in places that keep it from being the truly awesome film it could have been.

The biggest plus that the flick has going for it is that it defies all the usual claptrap of a summer blockbuster. Its action sequences are definitely big and loud, but not to the point of incoherence; with the exception of the final confrontation, it's relatively ...

Jon Favreau Got Spinning Lessons From DJ A.M.

Iron Man director Jon Favreau was schooled in the art of mixing music by DJ Adam Goldstein.

Favreau has been dabbling in DJ-ing for years, but it wasn't until he met Goldstein, aka DJ A.M., while filming a cameo for Iron Man 2 that he started taking the hobby seriously - after receiving personal lessons from the late club icon himself.

He explains, "I met DJ A.M. when we were shooting Iron Man 2 and I struck up a nice little friendship with him. He actually taught me a lot. (He) set up my computer. I learned a lot from the guy...

Model Suing 'Couples Retreat' Producers Loses

July 10th, 2010 7:11pm EDT

A bizarre defamation suit against the producers of Vince Vaughn comedy "Couples Retreat" has been thrown out of court in New York.

Former model Irina Krupnik claimed a snap of her in a bikini, used by one of the film's characters as a sexual aid, is actually a shot she sold to a picture agency in 2001.

In her suit, filed in March, Krupnik insisted she would never have allowed the "commonplace swimwear ad" to be used as "softcore pornography" - and she claimed the film was ruining her reputation.

But NBC Universal bosses maintained they had the rights to use the photo.

And a Manhattan ju...

'Iron Man 2' Absolutely Dominates Box Office

"Iron Man 2" has rocketed to the top of the box office chart to score the fifth biggest opening weekend in history with a powerful $133.6 million.

The sequel to the 2008 hit, starring Robert Downey, Jr. as the comic book superhero, dominated movie theatres this weekend as the nation celebrated Mother's Day on Sunday.

The bumper figures overshadowed the takings of the original "Iron Man," which grossed $98.6 million when it debuted in 2008.

However the follow-up failed to match the record set by "The Dark Knight" in 2008, which holds the title for the biggest opening weekend ever at the ...

After Jon Favreau and Robert Downey Jr. blew away audiences with the box office smash “Iron Man” in 2008, fans almost instantly demanded a sequel to the metal hero’s first outing. Making the follow up to such a monumental action film though, seemed like an uphill battle when Favreau’s return as a director seemed uncertain and actor Terrence Howard was replaced by Don Cheadle as Tony Stark’s pal Jim Rhodes.

Thankfully Paramount got its priorities straight and decided to lure Favreau back for another movie. However an ambitious release plan for May 2010 meant a screenplay would be hastily ...

On Thursday, I watched the reboot to the Freddy Krueger series “A Nightmare on Elm Street.” The film kept my attention however it did not blaze a new trail in the genre or introduce any compelling fresh elements to Krueger’s origin story.

It seemed the real purpose of this remake was to introduce us to the new actor playing Krueger, Jackie Earle Haley. Krueger was exclusively portrayed before by Robert Englund, which made the actor synonymous with the character. Haley is consistently creepy and perverted as Krueger like Englund.
