Jimmy Fallon Officially Replacing Jay Leno On 'Tonight Show'

April 3rd, 2013 5:07pm EDT
Jimmy Fallon
It was fairly obvious Late Night host Jimmy Fallon would replace Jay Leno on the Tonight Show when he retires, but now it's finally official.

In the deal, Fallon will move up an hour into the coveted Tonight Show slot in spring 2014 when Leno steps down... again. Leno infamously left in 2009 to be replaced by Conan O'Brien (with Fallon taking Conan's previous time slot), only to return and kick O'Brien off NBC.

In a prepared statement, Leno said, "Congratulations Jimmy. I hope you're as lucky as me and hold on to the job until you're the old guy. If you need me, I'll be at the garage."

RumorFix has not independently confirmed the impending late night shakeup.  However, if Fallon were to take over The Tonight Show, that would leave a huge void in the 12:35am time slot.

The Post is now reporting on Fallon’s possible replacement!  This time, the paper’s TV critic, Linda Stasi, cites sources close t...

The Show Must Go On: Jimmy Fallon And David Letterman Still Air Shows Despite Hurricane Sandy

October 30th, 2012 11:41am EDT
Jimmy Fallon
Late night talk show hosts Jimmy Fallon and David Letterman weren't going to let a little thing like Hurricane Sandy get in their way Monday evening, as both hosts aired their shows with skeleton crews and without studio audiences.

Like the United States Postal Service the two comedians refused to let weather stop them and they provided the much needed comic relief from the superstorm -- for those who still had power, that is.

Fallon began his show by stepping outside his Rockefeller Center studio in Manhattan to show the nearly empty streets and explain that the show would go on despite ...

Jimmy Fallon Will Not Be Hosting The Oscars

August 8th, 2012 6:03pm EDT
Jimmy Fallon
Jimmy Fallon is no longer in the running to be the host of the Academy Awards, following alleged objections from Disney and ABC over having a competitor's late night host on their network.

Despite Fallon being on the outs, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon producer Lorne Michaels is still in the running to produce the Oscars.

ABC would vastly prefer its own Jimmy Kimmel, but the host is already MCing the Emmys.

"No, I'm not going to do the Oscars," Fallon confirmed to Today host Matt Lauer. "It's an honor to be asked by the academy, but it's not my year."

ABC nor Disney have say on who the ...

Jimmy Fallon
Jimmy Fallon is now the top candidate to host next year's Academy awards - a choice that's ruffling a few feathers over at ABC. ABC owns the television rights to the awards show, and the last thing they want is a rival's late night host leading it.

Fallon is in talks for the gig along with Saturday Night Live and Late Night producer Lorne Michaels. However, the LA Times reports that ABC is none too happy with the prospect.

A simple replacement ABC would be happy with is Jimmy Kimmel, but he's going to be busy hosting the Emmys.

30 Rock
For the second time in the show's history, 30 Rock was performed as a live show. That, of course, means that a second show has to be done for the west coast audience watching hours later. That caused an issue when the script called for a gratuitous celebrity cameo.

On the east coast, viewers were thrilled to see Paul McCartney for a few brief moments. After waving to the studio crowd, he shook Alec Baldwin's hand and slapped his shocked face! He later tweeted, "To be slapped on live TV by Sir Paul... #filethatinmydiaryunderperfect."

The studio audience wasn't as thrilled with the west c...

Barack Obama
President Barack Obama was on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon last night (well, this morning) at the University of North Carolina. Part of his appearance was a "Slow Jam" of the news, where he sold his idea of halting an increase in interest rates on college students' Stafford loans.

Slow Jam is a recurring bit where Jimmy and a guest talk about a serious issue to smooth music by his house band, The Roots. This time, the bit was strictly partisan in nature. "Their position is that students just have to make this rate increase work. Frankly, I'm not buying it," said Obama, the straight man in...
