Will Smith In Talks For 'Independence Day' Sequel

September 6th, 2013 2:00pm EDT
Will Smith
Will Smith is reportedly considering starring in the "Independence Day" sequel. He played U.S. Marine Corps pilot Captain Steven Hiller in the 1996 sci-fi film.

Director Roland Emmerich told Digital Spy.com: "I sometimes say no, Will Smith will not be in it because he didn't want to do it at first. Now we have a meeting planned, we want to talk about it again. Anything can happen."

Emmerich wanted to cast some familiar faces from the original movie in the sequel, but prior to the release of Smith's latest film "After Earth" Emmerich said the actor was "too expensive" to employ.

Two Jews' Review 'Anonymous' And Battle Over This Political Thriller (Video)

October 25th, 2011 11:00am EDT
Anonymous
Two Jews on Film - By Joan Alperin-Schwartz: Yes 'Anonymous' is a political thriller, but it's one that is set in the past, 400 years ago to be precise.

The film, directed by Roland Emmerich and written by John Orloff (took him 15 drafts to get it right) supports the premise that Edward de Vere, the 17th Earl of Oxford, (Rhys Ifans)a prominent aristocrat, was the real author of the works attributed to William Shakespeare. Sounds dull? Believe me, it's anything but.

Whether you agree with the premise or not, 'Anonymous' is an exciting, sexy, suspenseful, exquisitely acted and intriguing fi...

MY PICK FOR THE WEEK: The Rum Diary

March 30th, 2010 6:34pm EDT
Independence Day
It appears that Will Smith will be back to save the United States from aggressive and revenge seeking aliens for not one, but two "Independence Day" sequels. The buzz is beginning to pick up fast, as rumors of the sequels started months ago and it seems like "Independence Day" is on the brink of an anticipated return to theaters.

This past November, director Roland Emmerich told MTV that the sequels were in development, and now it look likes Will Smith is on-board to dust off the pilot uniform and resume his role as Captain Steven Hiller.

"Independence Day" was a major success when it pr...
