August 2nd, 2014 9:26am EDT
Bill Murray
Bill Murray has been cast as the voice of the loveable black bear Baloo in the upcoming adatation of the classic Disney masterpiece. Baloo is well known for his carefree nature, his antics and endearing laziness. He's all about the 'Bare Necessities' - and we're interested to know if Bill Murray will be piping up to sing the classic Disney tune.

Bill Murray's casting of Baloo isn't the first surprising choice, as Christopher Walken has been chosen to play King Louie, the leader of the apes. Idris Elba is scheduled to play the voice of the main antagonist, the tiger Shere Khan, while Ben ...

11 Controversial Comic Book Movie Castings

March 19th, 2014 1:01pm EDT
Idris Elba
As a comic book nerd, nothing is worse than seeing a poor attempt at a movie adaptation of one of your beloved super heroes. So one could understand why so many casting decisions in comic book films create a controversy. Here are 11 controversial comic book movie castings:

Idris Elba - Heimdall in Thor. In what will be an occurring theme in this list, Elba's casting as Asgard Sentry Heimdall was a controversy only because of the color of this skin. Several white supremacist groups employ Norse mythology, so the perceived slight was twofold for them. In the end, the boycott attempts failed ...

Weird Celebrity News: Shia LaBeouf Won't Shower, Idris Elba Gets Turned On By Bow Ties

Shia LaBeouf
Weird and unusual things sometimes happen in the lives of celebrities. Here's a roundup of this week's strangest stories...

Shia LaBeouf has irritated his co-stars on the set of his new film Fury by refusing to shower - for weeks at a time.

A source told The Daily Mail: "Shia drove everyone mad on set trying to prove that he was the most dedicated star. He pulled out  his own tooth during the first few weeks of filming and then refused to shower for weeks on end so he could better understand how his character would have felt living in the trenches."

As a result of his lack of grooming, L...

Idris Elba Won't Be Playing James Bond, Hates 'Black Bond'

January 6th, 2014 5:03pm EST
Idris Elba
Idris Elba has cleared up rumors that he will be playing James Bond after Daniel Craig ends his time as the character - and has choice words for the term "Black Bond."

Elba told Huffington Post back in November of the rumors, "I didn't know that was still sort of in the mix. I say it all the time, but if it was to ever happen and if I was ever to get offered that role, that would be the will of a nation. That would be like, 'Wow, human beings are really powerful. They really made that happen, because [producer Barbara Broccoli] certainly didn't."

Elba has now told ITV's Lorraine Kelly the...

'Luther' Review 3.4: Go Ask Alice

September 7th, 2013 9:22am EDT
Luther
A thoroughly satisfying conclusion of these four nights of Luther with episode 3.4, and the hope that we'll be seeing Idris Elba again in the title role along with all the supporting characters who survived.

Satisfying because it was to good see Stark get what he deserved from the shotgun of Tom.  Satisfying because Luther made some good and right choices, only some of which were in his control.

For example, in the scene on the roof, where Tom with shotgun in hand asks Luther to choose who will die - Alice the evil genius or Mary the pixie - Luther after saying repeatedly he can't choose,...

Not familiar with the Japanese actress? She received Academy Award and Golden Globe nominations for her role in the 2006 film "Babel."

"Sons of Anarchy" star Charlie Hunnam also attended the premiere, looking dapper in a black suit with his hair slicked back and a short beard.

Five Fun Facts about 'Prometheus' Actor Idris Elba

June 7th, 2012 2:00pm EDT
Idris Elba - Five Fun Facts
Ridley Scott’s Prometheus comes out this Friday, reminding us of the buzz that surrounded his original Alien film back in 1979. Much like he did with that film, Scott has cast this science fiction piece with well-established actors including Academy Award winner Charlize Theron, Guy Pearce, and Michael Fassbender. Fans of the HBO series “The Wire” or the BBC series “Luther” will be pleased to see Idris Elba take on the role as the captain of Prometheus, giving us a good excuse to dig up five fun facts on the sexiest man to ever work at Dunder Mifflin.

1) A working actor since 1999, it was...

Trailer Talk: Ridley Scott's 'Prometheus' Could Be This Summer's Next Big Blockbuster & More

June 4th, 2012 1:02pm EDT

Arriving in theaters this week are Ridley Scott’s highly anticipated sci-fi vehicle “Prometheus,” the silly computer animated sequel “Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted,” the coming-of-age comedy “Lola Versus,” the indie time travel comedy “Safety Not Guaranteed,” the period piece drama “Bel Ami,” the family relationship dramedy “Peace, Love, & Misunderstanding,” and Todd Solondz’s drama “Dark Horse.”

Unfortunately my pick from last week, “Snow White and the Huntsman,” was plagued by bad acting, lackluster action scenes, and farfetched concepts even for a fairy tale. Not only was it diff...

Jack Davenport Takes Center Stage

January 30th, 2012 2:20pm EST
Smash
NBC's Smash is full of stars, but the one you don't know - that you should know - is British actor Jack Davenport.

In the ambitious new series (starting February 6 at 10), he plays Derek Wills, director of the Marilyn Monroe musical and not the kind of man who'll be winning a congeniality award anytime soon. Derek is complimentary one minute and cringeworthy the next. He's the kind of boss we'd all hate to have but whose results can't be dismissed either. It's a role where many actors could focus on the negative and make him a tyrannical, unlikeable mess. Davenport, however, brings ...

'Luther' Recap: 'Series 2, Episode 4' (2.04)

October 19th, 2011 11:02pm EDT
Luther
Can you believe Luther is already over? Weren't we just talking about its beginning a month ago?

While trying to help Jenny cover up the death of Toby (the psychopathic grandson of Jenny's former madam Baba), Luther gets to deal with "twins with a shared psychosis" who look at their crimes as one big competitive game. I would complain here about how our hero cannot catch a break, but I'm not sure that he'd want one if he could get it. John Luther is not unlike an addict; he's consumed by the world he lives in and doesn't seem very interested in getting out.

Once again things star...

'Luther' Review: 'Series 2, Episode 2' (2.02)

This week's Luther is not unlike my least favorite episode of 24: a character gets tortured for an entire episode, and I spend that time feeling my stomach turn to the point where I don't ever want to watch it again.

DCI John Luther and his team are spending this week trying to rescue their colleague DS Ripley from the clutches of Cameron Pell, the killer they couldn't catch last time. While Ripley's anguished screams fill the background, Cameron demands attention that Luther has no intention of giving him, less Ripley become expendable and end up dead.

'Luther' 2.01 'Series 2, Episode 1' Review

Luther
The first series of Luther scared the hell out of me on at least one occasion. I couldn't help but wonder: could it top that? Should it? Well, series two was certainly going to try.

While Alice Morgan (the devilishly delightful Ruth Wilson) sits in a mental hospital, DCI John Luther (Emmy nominee Idris Elba) makes a half-hearted attempt to kill himself. You can't blame him, considering that he lost his wife at the hands of his close friend last series. When that doesn't work, he turns to an awkward friendship with his wife's lover Mark North (Paul McGann) and of course, to his job...

What Happened To The Emmy Nominations?!

What happened to this year's Emmy nominations? They're...actually pretty great.

I normally can't stand TV's big awards show; it seems like the same people and series get nominated all the time, with the occasional "why did that get nominated at all?" head-scratcher for variety. But the 2011 nominations were announced early Thursday morning, and while it's still a little puzzling (though let's not name names), there's a bevy of deserving names on that big list.

Here are some of my favorites:
