Protesters Disrupt Filming On Kathryn Bigelow's Osama Bin Laden Movie

March 2nd, 2012 6:36pm EST
Kathryn Bigelow
Production on director Kathryn Bigelow's Osama Bin Laden movie in northern India was disrupted by protests on Friday after Hindu locals became angry that their city had been transformed to portray sworn enemy Pakistan.

The Hurt Locker filmmaker has been forced to shoot the new project, about the hunt for the Al Qaeda leader, in India after being denied permission to film in neighboring Pakistan, where the terrorist mastermind was shot and killed by U.S. troops last year.

Crewmembers were subsequently forced to use Chandigarh to mirror the Pakistani city of Lahore, but the transformation...

U.S. officials have launched an investigation into reports suggesting Oscar-winning moviemaker Kathryn Bigelow and her screenwriter partner Mark Boal received classified information while they were researching their new Osama Bin Laden film.

Hours after Warrior star Joel Edgerton was confirmed as the new film's leading man, America's deputy inspector general for intelligence and special program assessments, Patricia A. Brannin, revealed an investigation was underway following concerns raised last year by New York politician Pete King.

King raised the issue in August after reading an art...

Warrior actor Joel Edgerton is to play the hero who helped kill Al Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden in The Hurt Locker director Kathryn Bigelow's new all-action war film.

The filmmaker and screenwriter Mark Boal were putting the finishing touches to their script about the search for the terrorist when Bin Laden was killed by a team of Navy Seals last year.

Bigelow and Boal chose to revamp the script and include the scenes of the shoot-out that led to the death of the man behind the 9/11 atrocities in 2001. And now they have their star.

Edgerton has been attached to the project for months ...

Q&A: Meet Disney XD's 'Mr. Young' Star, Brendan Meyer

December 12th, 2011 2:20pm EST
Brendan Meyer Mr. Young
Disney XD’s Mr. Young is a show about a child prodigy who returns to school to teach kids his own age. I recently had a chance to talk to Brendan Meyer, the star of Mr. Young. Here’s what went down.

Q: The lead in a TV show is an opportunity most actors spend an entire career waiting for; what has it been like for you to achieve this at such a young age?

Brendan Meyer: It has been a real thrill to achieve a success like this. I did a lot of work in Film/TV in 2006-2008, but in the year before Mr. Young I didn't work a lot. So, I was really able to appreciate what I got with this role. A...

The Ides of March

This weekend has an interesting match-up for the box office: George Clooney’s “The Ides of March,” a sure Oscar contender, vs. “Real Steel,” a robot boxing film starring Hugh Jackman. In “Ides,” Clooney, who directed and co-wrote the screenplay, stars as a promising presidential candidate whose young, idealistic aid (Ryan Gosling) sees the dark underbelly of what political campaigns are really about. Expect amazing performances from the entire cast which also includes Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Paul Giamatti, Maris Tomei and Evan Rachel Wood.

September 8th, 2011 3:00pm EDT
Warrior - Tom Hardy and Joel Edgerton
This weekend’s MMA fight film Warrior has been generating a lot of buzz. The massively popular sport is still looking for a movie to represent it the way Rocky did for boxing. Perhaps this story of two estranged brothers competing in the same tournament will be the one.

Tom Hardy and Joel Edgerton play brothers Tommy and Brendan respectively. Tommy is the returning war veteran, an animal in the ring. Brendan is fighting to make ends meet for his family. The pair remained together as they promoted the film, bantering about their fight experience.

Q: You’re two Brits playing Pittsburgh boys...

Review: 'Warrior' A Wimper, Not A Roar

September 7th, 2011 1:00pm EDT
Warrior
So a previously violent and drunken wrestling coach, a soldier with undiagnosed PTSD, and a high school science teacher walk into a MMA tournament. I'll let you write the punchline. But if you're watching the 2011 testosterone-o-rama “Warrior” the joke's on you.

We open with Tom Hardy (of “Inception” fame) juggling a variety of not-particularly-well-explained-to-the-audience demons, the most distracting of which appears to be irritable switching accent syndrome. We know he's troubled because he's wearing a dark hoodie and drinking from a can inside of a paper bag.

He happens to be jugglin...

Carey Mulligan has become a nervous wreck while waiting to shoot The Great Gatsby - because director Baz Luhrmann is taking several months to cast her co-stars.

The Brit saw off competition from the likes of Scarlett Johansson and Blake Lively to win the coveted role of Daisy Buchanan in Luhrmann's upcoming adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's classic novel.

She was the Aussie moviemaker's first official casting for the new project, with Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, Joel Edgerton and Isla Fisher subsequently coming on-board over a period of several months.
