Troy Donahue arrived in Hollywood got a contract at Universal he made several films including Lana Turner's great hit "Imitation of Life". Lured away by WB Donahue became one of the biggest box office stars of the early l960's starring in a series of hits at WB directed by Delmer Daves: " A Summer Place" a huge hit with Sandra Dee, "Parrish" with Claudette Colbert- in her return to films-, and co starring Connie Stevens, Diane McBain, "Susan Slade" with Miss Stevens, and the very romantic "Rome Adventure" with Angie Dickinson and Suzanne Pleshette -whom he was very briefly married. Donahue also starred in WB hits such as "A Distant Trumpet" with Ms Pleshette and Ms McBain directed by Roaul Walsh and the lively "Palm Springs Weekend" co starring a host of Warner contract stars such as Ty Hardin, Bob Conrad and Ms Stevens. Warners kept Troy Donahue busy in TV as well with "Surfside Six" with Ms. McBain and Van Williams. Troy Donahue was a great looking All American Man whose career went downhill after a series of clashes with Warner Bros chief Jack Warner. After he secured his release from WB, Donahue never got the starring roles he had at WB...his last appearance in a major film was a cameo in Godfather II directed by his fellow student at Prep School Francis Ford Coppola. After that it was bit parts in movies. Donahue never even got a TV show like his colleagues from WB, Van Wlliams, Bob Conrad His Fame endured however and his death was front page news | ||
