Meryl Streep to reunite with Johnathan Demme for indie film

Meryl Streep is set to reunite with her The Manchurian Candidate director Jonathan Demme for a new independent film.

The veteran actress is set to star in a comedy/drama titled Ricky and the Flash, according to Variety.

The project brings Streep back together with Silence of the Lambs director Demme, 10 years after they joined forces for the political drama remake.

Streep will play a woman who abandoned her family to seek fame and fortune in California, only to return home to be a mum again.

Juno screenwriter Diablo Cody will pen the script, according to TheWrap.com.

Director Jonathan Demme is auctioning off more than 900 pieces of his expansive art collection to raise funds for the continued earthquake recovery effort in Haiti.

The Silence of the Lambs filmmaker wants to "streamline and simplify" his life after spending years picking up works by talented artists with little or no formal training.

Many of the items were bought during trips to the Centre d'Art in Port-au-Prince before the art co-operative was destroyed in the 2010 disaster.

Jonathan Demme is to be honored for his work within film and television at the 49th Cinema Audio Society (CAS) Awards in February next year.

The Silence Of The Lambs director will be presented with the Cinema Audio Society Filmmaker Award at the prestigious ceremony which will be held at the Crystal Ballroom of the Millennium-Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles.

The Oscar winner has directed or produced more than 30 movies, including Philadelphia, Rachel Getting Married, and The Manchurian Candidate.

Oscar-winning director Jonathan Demme is set to give an upcoming gig by country star Kenny Chesney the Hollywood treatment for a new Internet concert.

The Never Wanted Nothing More singer is the latest artist to take part in the American Express Unstaged music series, which will see his show streamed live online for fans around the world.

A planned biopic of Bob Marley's life has been thrown into doubt again - director Jonathan Demme has reportedly followed in Martin Scorsese's footsteps and quit the project.

Moviemaker Martin Scorsese has been forced to step down as the director of a new Bob Marley documentary due to scheduling conflicts.
