9/5/2015 3:26pm EDT
Benecio Del Toro
After much speculation, Benicio Del Toro has opened up about his involvement in the next "Star Wars" franchise sequel. Del Toro was reportedly in competition with Joaquin Phoenix for a part in the film, which begins shooting next year.

Del Toro pretty much confirmed he was cast in the sci-fi blockbuster by admitting he has been ordered to stay quiet about the project.

He told Spanish radio station, "Star Wars is coming up, we will see how that turns out. I think we start shooting in March."

He added, "They don't let me talk too much about it, I'm like the villain."

Benicio Del Toro Might Be The Next Big 'Star Wars' Villain

7/22/2015 2:47am EDT
Benicio Del Toro
Benicio del Toro is the latest actor to join the Star Wars franchise. According to The Wrap, the Puerto Rican actor is negotiating to join the upcoming Star Wars: Episode VIII. It seems he's not a lock just yet- The Wrap reports that del Toro has been offered a major role in the sequel, but he's yet to officially say "yes." Still, it's Star Wars- who'd really say no?

We barely know anything about Star Wars: Episode VIII (heck, we barely know anything about The Force Awakens, and that one hits theaters in a couple months), but we do know the barest of bare bones about the character del Toro...

Benicio Del Toro Joins All-Star 'Guardians of the Galaxy' Cast - As Thanos?

6/4/2013 8:07pm EDT
Benicio del Toro
Oscar-winner Benicio del Toro has signed on to join the impressive cast of Marvel's interstellar comic book movie Guardians of the Galaxy.

Benicio will be acting with Glenn Close, Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, and John C. Reilly in the sci-fi action film. It is assumed several of the characters will be CGI, considering one of them is a anthropomorphic raccoon and the rest are various types of aliens.

More exciting, possibly, is the rumor that del Toro will be playing Thanos, who was teased at the end of The Avengers as the main bad guy. Again, considering Thanos is a hulking alien bent of wor...

Benicio Del Toro Wants Marijuana Legalized

10/18/2012 4:20pm EDT
Benicio Del Toro
Benicio Del Toro is convinced U.S. officials should legalize marijuana in an attempt to bring the drugs trade under control.

The 21 Grams star, who plays a drugs cartel enforcer in new movie Savages, believes the country's drug problems could be eased if authorities took control of cannabis and taxed sales to raise revenue.

Nonetheless, Del Toro is also adamant the drug can be just as dangerous as alcohol and should be similarly restricted.

He tells the Sydney Daily Telegraph, "I think that marijuana grows in the ground and helps many people in need. Why should it be treated like it's...

Tyrrell subsequently launched an online petition calling for change in the organization's discriminatory policies to better embrace gay youths and community leaders and it soon boasted more than 300,000 signatures.

Salma Hayek Had To Talk Tough To Win 'Savages' Role

10/6/2011 2:56pm EDT
Salma Hayek
Actress Salma Hayek had to prove she was tough enough to play the head of a drug cartel in Oliver Stone's upcoming movie Savages, because the director feared motherhood had turned her "all soft".

The Frida star has scaled down her work load since becoming a mother to four-year-old daughter Valentina and settling down with her husband Francois-Henri Pinault, and her comfortable home life had Stone worried she wasn't right for the leading role in the crime thriller.

Hayek tells Redbook magazine, "I'm playing the queen of a drug cartel in an Oliver Stone film. He asked if I'd gone 'all sof...

Peter and Bobby Farrelly insist the Burlesque star, who played herself in their film Stuck on You, would be the perfect fit for the Mother Superior role in the comedy - and they have a few other dream castmates for the project, which at one point was to include Jim Carrey, Benicio Del Toro and Sean Penn.

Peter Farrelly tells, "We always thought Andy Samberg looks a little like he could play Larry and Johnny Knoxville is a real-life stooge. He's a real-life Moe."

Bobby Farrelly
The Farrelly Brothers are stepping up their hunt for actors to play The Three Stooges in their new movie after failing to find replacements for Jim Carrey and Sean Penn.

Carrey and Penn both bowed out of the project, and the filmmaking duo is running out of time to find new stars to play 1930s comedy icons Moe Howard, Curly Howard and Larry Fine before filming begins in March.

It is unclear if Benicio del Toro, who was attached to play Moe, remains in the cast. Peter Farrelly admits they are now "opening the roles up to the world" as they attempt to find the perfect actors for the parts...

31 Days Of Horror Weekend Round-Up #4: 'Nosferatu The Vampyre,' 'The Wolfman,' 'Survival Of The Dead'

10/25/2010 11:33pm EDT
Nosferatu the Vampyr
Oct 22 – Nosferatu The Vampyre (1979): In the hands of any other director, a sexed up remake of the silent classic Nosferatu would probably end up being the kind of groan-inducing hack-work we’ve come to expect from Hollywood. Complete with an A-list celebrity donning the ookie Dracula make-up and ripping out the throat of some up-and-coming young talent—Oh right, like what Francis Ford Coppola did in Bram Stoker’s Dracula. Almost forgot about that one. But in the hands of a mad genius director like Werner Herzog, what we get instead is a sexed up version of Nosferatu that’s also a spellbin...

Trailer Talk: This Week In Movies - 'The Wolfman,' 'Valentine's Day,'

2/8/2010 10:15am EST
The Wolfman
Pierre Morel's film from last week "From Paris With Love," isn't awesomely bad, but instead it's just plain bad. As an action movie, it's visually entertaining because it engrosses you in the fight scenes and shootouts

, while maintaining solid pacing. These elements are completely overshadowed however by the horrendously written dialogue and plot.

The story doesn't introduce any specific elements to engage the audience or fully explain the terrorist plan the protagonists are hoping to thwart. In some instances the dialogue is so ludicrous that you find yourself audibly laughing at ...

2/7/2010 11:00am EST
Anthony Hopkins
Anthony Hopkins almost resigned from The Wolfman after movie bosses ordered him to shave off his beard.

The actor decided to grow out his facial hair to play Sir John Talbot, the father of the title character played by Benicio del Toro, but Universal executives wanted him clean-shaven for the film.

The 72 year old then threatened to walk off set, prompting producers to give in to his demand.

He says, "They wanted me to shave it off because studio policy is not to have facial hair, which is crazy when you're doing a film in 19th-century England about a wolfman.

"I said, 'Well...

Johnny Depp's Best & Worst Films - Do You Agree?

6/30/2009 9:36am EDT
Pirates of the Caribbean
The problem with an actor like Johnny Depp is finding movies in his history that aren't fantastic. Then you have to consider the movies that aren't that good, but that he was great in anyway (which covers basically everything else).

The truth is, this Kentucky-born actor is one of the best in his or anyone's generation, and he also is an accomplished producer, director, screenwriter, and yes, even has quite a set of singing pipes. Good thing he's just so unattractive or he might just be the perfect Hollywood hunk ... oh wait. He's gorgeous. Damn you, Johnny Depp!

Here's a look at so...

The Farrelly Brothers Can Make 'The Three Stooges' Movie Work

5/11/2009 11:47am EDT
The Three Stooges
When it comes to being funny, the Farrelly Brothers aren't joking. They've cast two Oscar winners, Sean Penn and Benicio Del Toro, (neither known for their comedic chops, at least not lately) as the immortal stooges Moe Howard and Larry Fine. They've also cast Jim Carrey as the corpulent Curley Howard. He's being expected to put on a good forty pounds for the role, a feat that's more reminiscent of Robert De Niro's transformation for the film, 'Raging Bull', than any comedy. (Fat suits and Jack Black don't count.) So why are the Farrelly brothers putting so much emphasis on the dramatic sid...

Benicio Del Toro: 'Che Guevara Was A Warrior, Like Batman'

1/15/2009 9:38am EST
Benicio Del Toro
Oscar winner Benicio Del Toro has become such a big fan of Ernesto 'Che' Guevara after playing the revolutionary in director Steven Soderbergh's four-hour epic; he's eager to defend the leader from his critics.

The Traffic star spent months reading up on Guevara and is now convinced Che was "a warrior" with a very bad reputation. He says, "I remember Che being included in a TV show that showed pictures of terrorists. I was like, 'Why isn't (President Richard) Nixon there for the Vietnam war?' You'd have to put a lot of pictures of other people there before you'd put Che's."
