Matt Damon Pulls Out Of Directorial Debut

1/8/2012 5:30pm EST
Matt Damon
Actor Matt Damon has pulled out of his directorial debut due to "scheduling conflicts."

The We Bought a Zoo star teamed up with John Krasinski to co-write the project and he originally planned on stepping behind the camera to direct the untitled drama, however he has now dropped out after realizing he won't have enough time for the job.

Damon will still have a star turn in the film but Good Will Hunting director Gus Van Sant has since signed as his replacement.

Van Sant hopes to begin shooting the movie this spring, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The film opened at number one in September with $23.1 million.

Brad Pitt in Moneyball
Brad Pitt has been named the "Top Money-Making Star of 2011," according to an annual survey of movie theatre owners.

Bosses at Quigley Publishing Company have asked theatre owners and film buyers to vote for their top 10 box office generators, and this year exhibitors credited Pitt with bringing in more traffic than any other celebrity due to his acting and/or vocal appearances in "Moneyball," "The Tree of Life," and "Happy Feet Two."

Coming in at number two was Pitt's pal George Clooney for both "The Ides of March" and "The Descendants," and last year's winner, Johnny Depp, fell to third...

Two Jews' Review 'We Bought A Zoo' And Experience 'Christmas Miracle'

12/21/2011 11:00am EST
We Bought A Zoo
Two Jews on Film - By Joan Alperin Schwartz: 'Sometimes all you need is 20 seconds of insane courage and I promise something great will happen'. Ben (Matt Damon) says this terrific line to his teenage son Dylan (Colin Ford). Ben got the line from his older brother Duncan (Thomas Haden Church) and it's just one of the many awesome lines of dialogue in Cameron Crowe's new film 'We Bought a Zoo'.

I absolutely loved this movie.

From the first scene where Ben asks his super adorable 7 year old daughter Rosie (Maggie Elizabeth Jones), how he's doing as a dad? She replies, 'Well at least you h...

Trailer Talk: This Week in Movies
I’m disappointed to report that I didn’t love Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes sequel “A Game of Shadows.” The first half hour is pretty boring, and although the action picks up pretty heavily toward the middle, Ritchie seems to care more about style than substance in the film. He continues to use Sherlock’s own bullet-time type slow-mo combined with crazy forced perspectives of bullets and shells being shot from guns, which admittedly is pretty darn exciting at times.

What the movie lacks though is the same great banter between Watson and Holmes that was present in the first film. Holmes...

New Celebrity Hairdos: Rihanna, Jessica Biel, And Scarlett Johansson

12/14/2011 12:00pm EST
Celebrity hairstyles go out of fashion quicker than celebrity weddings. Here are some of the new hairdos some of our favorite stars are sporting for the holiday season.

Rihanna seems to have a different hairstyle every month, but we can't argue with her selection for December. The We Found Love singer rocked a natural color (for once) with major body and curls.

Jessica Biel also went dark for winter, showing off this 'do at a charity event. When paired with her black dress, she was definitely working the dark, mysterious female vibe.

Scarlett Johansson went modern for the We Bough...

Scarlett Johansson attended the "We Bought a Zoo" New York City premiere last night wearing a simple black dress with her hair swept back in a style reminiscent of the 1950s. Except for the tiny bit of midriff she revealed, we think Scarlett looks a little bit like Grace Kelly. What do you think?

12/1/2011 10:30am EST
One of the most incredible stunts in the latest Mission: Impossible movie has Tom Cruise hanging from the side of the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai. The rest of his team just looks out from the window, but even that was too much for costar Jeremy Renner.

“Once I hung out [the window], 30 seconds of near vomiting almost happened, but then that went away and Tom was laughing, he’s hanging upside down,” Renner said. “He’s all red faced and he’s like, ‘Look at this view!’ I’m like, ‘What are you talking about? I’m gonna vomit on you.’”

That gave Renner a taste of what h...

10/21/2011 3:09pm EDT
Cameron Crowe
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals bosses have urged moviemaker Cameron Crowe to add a warning to the end of his new Matt Damon film We Bought A Zoo following the recent Ohio wildlife sanctuary drama, which ended with the deaths of escaped lions, tiger and bears.

Terry Thompson unlocked cages on his Zanesville preserve before committing suicide on Tuesday and his exotic animals escaped to the nearby countryside, causing a 24-hour headache for state law officials and wildlife experts. The big-game hunt ended after police officers shot and killed 49 of the animals for fear they wou...

Bald Matt Damon & Jake Gyllehaal
Matt Damon is jealous of pal Jake Gyllenhaal's shaved head because he's adamant baldness suits his fellow actor.

Damon sheared his locks for upcoming sci-fi thriller "Elysium," while his friend Gyllenhaal is also sporting less hair for his film "End of Watch."

But Damon has revealed he hates his new image being compared to Gyllenhaal's appearance.

He tells, "Wow, I try not to envy, but I have to say Jake's got a damn good-looking head. He sure does have a beautiful round head.

"Normally you say, 'That's a beautiful head of hair, but that's a beautiful head he's got.' Gyllenha...

Review 'Contagion' - Two Jews' Are Immune To Soderbergh's Medical Thriller (Video)

9/8/2011 6:00pm EDT
Two Jews on Film - By Joan Alperin Schwartz: An international traveler reaches into the snack bowl at an airport bar before passing her credit card to a waiter. A business meeting begins with a round of handshakes. A man coughs on a crowded bus.

One contact. One instant. And a lethal virus is transmitted.

Great premise. Great beginning. But unfortunately, that's not enough to make a great film.

'Contagion' directed by Steven Soderbergh and written by Scott Z Burns (The Informant) succeeds in showing us how fast a virus can spread. It also makes you think that becoming an agoraphobi...

Monkey Expert Takes Aim At Cameron Crowe

Cameron Crowe
Animal rights activists have taken aim at moviemaker Cameron Crowe for using a live monkey in his new movie We Bought a Zoo.

Leading primatologist Dr. Iqbal Malik has written to the Almost Famous director on behalf of PETA, urging him to rethink using animal actors in future films after he hired Crystal, the capuchin monkey from The Hangover sequel, for his new movie, which stars Matt Damon and Scarlett Johansson.

Dr. Malik, who has studied monkeys for 30 years from her base in New Delhi, India, points out that monkeys are "like Mickey Rourke" because they "do nothing you tell them to."

8/9/2011 8:34am EDT

The star joined a teachers' protest in Washington, D.C. last month to rally against standardized testing, and he recently voiced his disgust at the way politicians were stalling on a deal to raise the national debt ceiling.

Damon's outspoken behavior has caught the eye of documentary maker Moore, and he's convinced the Oscar winner would be an ideal candidate for the Democrats to run for office - and win - in 2012.

Matt Damon is "disgusted" after American politicians stalled on a deal to raise the U.S. national debt ceiling.

While a deal was finally cut just days before the Tuesday deadline, Damon is furious over the tactics employed by the more right-wing members of the Republican party, who refused to compromise on raising taxes for the rich.

He told reporters, "I'm so disgusted.....
