 Jim DaleMeet Jim Dale Release Date 1969 Label Pye Rating:  By 1969, Jim Dale had gained renown for his appearances in the series of Carry On film comedies and for his stage work, including the musical +The Wayward Way. He had also made his mark as a songwriter, penning the lyrics to the international pop hit &"Georgy Girl." All of this tended to obscure his early triumphs as a pop singer; in 1957, he had nearly topped the British charts with &"Be My Girl," going on to record sporadically over the next five years before largely abandoning the field. But his success writing the Top 20 hit &"Dick-A-Dum-Dum (King's Road)" for Des O'Connor and his U.K. TV series Join Jim Dale induced Pye Records to give him another shot at being a recording star. Meet Jim Dale included his versions of &"Georgy Girl" (arranged as a waltz) and &"Dick-A-Dum-Dum (King's Road)" (a composition that indicated he'd been listening to Roger Miller's country-pop hit &"King of the Road"), along with 11 other Dale-written pop songs. His training as an actor tended to make him an eclectic performer, and the styles included on the LP ranged from the music hall sound of the lead-off track, &"Plenty More Days to Come" (which recalled American singer Nilsson) to more country-pop novelties like &"Mouses" and pastiches of the 1920s rendered in a posh British accent, such as &"Oh Mother Please" and &"My Punctured Romance." The thirtyish Dale was far removed from his days as a teen idol by the late '60s, but his talent had broadened.
