November 28th, 2013 11:00am EST
Josh Charles, The Good Wife
Thanksgiving is upon us and it's time for us to give our thanks - for the acting performances that make doing what we do worthwhile.

There are so many talented actors and actresses out there that we don't possibly have the space to recognize them all, but here are the five gentlemen who made us thankful that we were around to write about them over the past year, in alphabetical order.

1) Josh Charles, The Good Wife (CBS)

There's nothing sweeter to those of us watching an actor we love swing for the fences, and that's exactly what's been happening with Josh Charles this TV season. America...

The 11 Best From 2011

December 31st, 2011 11:00am EST
Southland
2011 was a fantastic year for entertainment. Here are my eleven favorite things from the year that's about to wrap, in chronological order...

1. Southland, TNT

(Season 3 began January 4)

I have to admit that I didn't keep up with TNT's gritty Los Angeles cop drama as much as I would have liked; it fell victim to sharing Tuesday nights with three other shows on my watch list. Yet when I did find time to catch it, I was no less than impressed every time.

There's been talk about the show's TV-MA content (allegedly the reason that NBC axed it), but the real talking point should be the st...

Michael Cudlitz & Ben McKenzie Talk 'Southland' Finale

March 8th, 2011 4:48pm EST
Southland
As Southland fans anticipate tonight's third-season finale, I sat down with two of the TNT drama's stars, Michael Cudlitz (Officer John Cooper) and Ben McKenzie (Officer Ben Sherman), who rejoined me to discuss how far they'd come since our chats at the beginning of the season (viewable here and here), and the potential for a fourth season. Warning: there are spoilers ahead for tonight's episode.

Over the course of the show, and this season in particular, we've really seen your characters' partnership evolve. How has your relationship as actors evolved as your characters have grown?

'Southland' 3.01 'Let It Snow' Advance Review

January 3rd, 2011 4:47pm EST
Southland
Here's a way to start off a new year of TV viewing: TNT brings back the acclaimed cop drama Southland for its third season tomorrow night at 10 PM. Season three is the longest that the show has seen yet (ten episodes, up from seven in season one and eight in season two), and it's been highly anticipated (not to mention heavily promoted). Is it worth it?

You bet.

The characters haven't gone stagnant in the time between seasons; in fact, they've all got new problems to deal with. Lydia (Regina King, still criminally underrated) has a new and somewhat reckless partner, Josie Ochoa (gue...

Interview: Michael Cudlitz Returns To 'Southland'

December 15th, 2010 3:10pm EST
Southland
Michael Cudlitz may be television's most recognized law enforcement official. He's played cops, sheriffs, FBI agents, and even done voice work for the popular Call of Duty video game series. Currently, he's polishing up his LAPD badge for another tour of duty as Officer John Cooper on Southland, the gritty cop drama rescued from NBC and moving to TNT for its third season. Before Southland returns on January 4, Michael sat down with me to talk about coming back to the series and his long history behind a badge.

These last few months must have been a real roller-coaster ride for you, to b...

Michael Cudlitz Fuming Over 'Southland' Axe

February 15th, 2010 5:00pm EST
Michael Cudlitz Fuming Over
Actor Michael Cudlitz is convinced bosses at NBC were wrong to cancel cop drama Southland - because the show has a lot of potential. Production was shut down in September just six episodes into the second series, and the 45 year old feels sad for the cast and crew who worked so hard on the series.

He says, "I used to work on the crews. That's what (angered) me the most, and (angers) me off to this day. I paid my way through college working on crews. That's what touched me the most."

Southland has since been picked up by rival network TNT - and Cudlitz has promised fans a thrilling n...

Michael Cudlitz Discusses Tonight's 'Southland' Season Finale

Michael Cudlitz Discusses Tonight's 'Southland' Season Finale
When Michael Cudlitz and I last spoke, back in April, I used some, well, (ahem) colorful language during an interview junket --

a junket that everyone but me thought was on live local television -- to describe his character on Southland, Officer John Cooper. We finally get a chance to go one-on-one and clear the air over that moment and, more importantly, discuss tonight's season finale of Southland (airing at 10 pm ET on NBC) along with his experience on Band of Brothers and working with John Cusack in Grosse Point Blank.

Michael Cudlitz: You're the guy who said, "You're a dick."

Why 'Southland' Is Must-See TV

April 28th, 2009 12:12pm EDT
Southland
In the past few seasons for network TV, there have been a few shows that were destined for greatness from their very first pilot episodes: Arrested Development, Desperate Housewives, Friday Night Lights, Heroes, Lost and The Office.

That's it, that's the list. And of those six shows, one was cancelled due to low ratings ("Arrested Development"), one is on life-support ("Friday Night Lights"), and two were in danger after having lost their way - no pun intended, but "Lost" managed to find its way back while "Heroes" is struggling. "Housewives" still has its foundation of viewers but is...

Michael Cudlitz And Arija Bareikis Of NBC's 'Southland'

April 23rd, 2009 2:21pm EDT
Southland
The immediate fate of NBC's heralded Thursday night 10 pm slot seems to be in stable, if not extraordinary, hands; Southland provides a gripping snapshot of the life of a Los Angeles police officer. The future is more of a mystery considering Jay Leno's new show will occupy this and four other weeknight time slots next season. Michael Cudlitz (who plays officer John Cooper) and Arija Bareikis (Officer Chickie Brown) join us to discuss this topic, their characters, the future of the show and realize the liberties of the Internet once they realize we were not, in fact, broadcasting this inter...
