Oscar Predictions: Does 'Gravity' Carry Enough Weight?
For the most part, the major categories at the Oscars are fairly easy to predict. But some years there are upset winners (‘Shakespeare in Love,’ Marcia Gay Harden, Juliette Binoche, Adrien Brody, to name a few) that remind us that anything can happen.

This year is a little different. Who remembers a year where the race for Best Picture is down to three films, two of which are so close that they tied at the Producers’ Guild? It seems like there are some definite locks this year (Hello, Cate Blanchett) but you read it here: Nothing is guaranteed. Nothing.

That said, here are the most likely...

An anonymous Oscar voter has had his or her ballot revealed, and they had some unflattering things to say about several nominees.

The ballot is one of a handful The Hollywood Reporter will be revealing leading up to the Oscars on Sunday night. This particular ballot is from "a longtime member of the Academy's 377-member directors branch."

The director picks American Hustle as Best Picture and says making 12 Years a Slave would require courage, "if you made it in Mississippi in 1930." The director then snubs Gravity's Alfonso Cuaron for Best Director, writing, "I have seen things at the pl...

'Gravity' Is The Best Cinematic Experiences In Years

October 8th, 2013 3:11pm EDT
Gravity
In case you’ve been away from life, you might not know that Gravity has been lauded by critics as not just the best movie of the year, but one of the best cinematic experiences in years. I think that second point is more important, because Gravity does something truly unique. It provides a film so intensely cinematic, that you really do need to see it on the largest screen possible. Waiting for home video is just not an option here. Torrenting the film and watching it on your computer? Well, you’re an asshole.

Gravity tells the story of two astronauts, Ryan Stone (Sandra Bullock), the rook...

The Hunger Games hits theaters Friday in what looks to be a battle for box office gold (it’s already sold more pre-sale tickets than any of the Twilight movies, according to Fandango). And while it’s current 100 percent fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes is reassuring, anxious fans still have a week to go before they’ll know for sure if director Gary Ross paid good enough tribute to Suzanne Collins’ literary franchise.

Before then, let’s take a look back at Hollywood’s best and worst popular franchise adaptations...

BEST: The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring

Robert Downey Jr.
Alfonso Cuaron's sci-fi thriller Gravity is facing another setback - Robert Downey, Jr. is reportedly pulling out due to scheduling difficulties.

The actor signed up for the role earlier this year and was due to begin filming scenes in the summer but the project has been delayed because of Downey, Jr.'s other commitments, including shoots for Sherlock Holmes 2, The Avengers and Iron Man 3.

Sandra Bullock was recently confirmed in the lead role, playing an astronaut trapped in space after her orbital station is destroyed. Angelina Jolie was at one stage attached to the heroine's part but...
