13 Greatest Actors Turned Critically Acclaimed Directors

May 3rd, 2014 3:00pm EDT
13 Greatest Actors Turned Critically Acclaimed Directors
Very few actors are afforded success and fame in the brutally competitive film landscape. Those who miraculously do make have trouble-holding relevancy, as Hollywood trades aging veteran actors for relative and good-looking newcomers immediately destined to be the next big thing. But these screen presences who’ve been able to hold Hollywood’s attention even into their later years have also found a strong niche behind the camera, directing Oscar worthy films and Hollywood blockbusters that encapsulate audiences’ attention while reaping critics’ acclaim. Move over Scorsese and Spielberg, beca...

'Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit'
Jack Ryan (Chris Pine), the character created by novelist Tom Clancy, is back and yes folks, you've seen him before - many, many times. Aka the CIA wonder played by Alec Baldwin (Hunt for Red October). Then there was my favorite Jack Ryan type; Harrison Ford ('Patriot Games' and 'Clear and Present Danger'); followed by my not so favorite, Ben Affleck (The Sum of all Fears).

In 'Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit,'  directed by Kenneth Branagh and written by David Koep along with Adam Cozad, we meet Ryan at the beginning of his career.

The date is September 11, 2001. Ryan, a student at the London...

TV Ratings: 'Hatfields & McCoys' Shoots Down Records

June 7th, 2012 9:10am EDT
'Hatfields & McCoys'
Well, we’re officially into the summer doldrums. Broadcast TV ratings were fairly ho-hum last week. On cable, however, there is something to talk about.

First, let’s start with the networks. Aside from fresh reality shows (‘America’s Got Talent,’ which ranked first and third, and ‘Duets,’ hanging in there at #19) naturally dominated the Top 20, but lots of repeats (‘NCIS,’ ‘The Big Bang Theory’) helped sustain CBS.

Without ‘American Idol’ until January, FOX got a decent showing from ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ on Wednesday. The big story, though, belongs to the History Channel. And it’s ...
