The "golden throat" of celebrity vocalist Richard Chamberlain can actually sing. On his debut album, Richard Chamberlain Sings, he sounds a bit like Pat Boone and Joe Dowell while performing well-enunciated pop ballads in a gentle, orchestrated teen-idol style. The album is practically a greatest-hits collection since it contains six of his eight chart hits, including his most popular recording, "Theme From Dr. Kildare (Three Stars Will Shine Tonight)," the theme song from the television series in which he starred. The album attempts to appeal to Chamberlain's cross-generational television audience by mixing inoffensive pop ballads associated with rock & roll ("All I Have to Do Is Dream," "Love Me Tender") with traditional pop standards. Chamberlain maintains a relaxed pace throughout -- Ricky Nelson sounds like a wild man by comparison -- and proves himself a competent if bland vocalist. Greg Adams, All Music Guide
