Boardwalk Empire to end after fifth season

Acclaimed U.S. series Boardwalk Empire will end after its upcoming fifth season.

The period drama, which is executive produced by Martin Scorsese and Mark Wahlberg, is coming to an end, network bosses announced on Thursday (09Jan14).

Show creator Terence Winter gave the news at the Television Critics Association press tour, and stated, "We're thrilled to get the go-ahead for a fifth season of Boardwalk Empire. Actor Adam Sandler gave a New York store employee a bumper pay day last week (ends22Nov13) to appear as an extra in his new comedy after realising he was one man short.

The Grown Ups star was shooting The Cobbler with director Tom McCarthy on the streets of Manhattan on Wednesday (20Nov13) when he decided to give Rahman Ejaj his 15 minutes of fame.

A source tells the New York Daily News, "Adam went and asked an employee at a local fashion store if he would mind being part of a scene."

Actor Steve Buscemi has registered himself as a potential bone marrow donor after attending a special charity drive in his native Brooklyn, New York in a bid to save a two-year-old boy's life.

Owen Hogan was diagnosed with potentially fatal blood disorder aplastic anemia in May (13) and he is in desperate need of a bone marrow transplant to survive.

Several stars from "The Sopranos" gathered in New York City on Thursday for the funeral of their former co-star James Gandolfini, who died of a heart attack in Rome, Italy, last Wednesday at age 51.

Edie Falco, Steve Buscemi, Michael Imperioli, Tony Sirico, Dominic Chianese and Aida Turturro were among those photographed at the Cathedral Church of Saint John the Divine.

"30 Rock" star Alec Baldwin and New Jersey Governor Chris Christie also attended the service.

"Grown Ups 2" is causing a stink in Massachusetts. Adam Sandler has been shooting the sequel to his hit 2010 comedy in the North Shore region of the state, but the crew ran into trouble after building a sound stage in Phillips Park.

It's been a while since New York's most famous firefighter Steve Buscemi directed a full-length flick, but his next project sounds like a doozy.

A few years ago, Buscemi took part in a staged reading of writer-director Oren Moverman's script for an adaptation of the William S. Burroughs short novel "Queer."

According to Moverman, whose next movie "Rampart" stars Woody Harrelson as a troubled cop, Buscemi will direct "Queer," and Guy Pearce, Ben Foster and Kelly Macdonald are attached to star. (Foster and Harrelson costar in Moverman's fantastic directorial debut, "The Messenger.")

The actor, who appears to bed hop between mistresses in his TV drama "Boardwalk Empire," insists he doesn't enjoy intimate scenes with co-stars like Paz de la Huerta and Kelly MacDonald, because he's still shy when it comes to the bedroom.

He tells Playboy magazine, "I'm very modest. I've always got something on, and I don't get aroused.
