'Justified' Recap: Bad Things Happen When 'Guy Walks Into A Bar'

March 21st, 2012 2:04am EDT
Justified
Justified keeps going strong this week, as Raylan and Quarles have another confrontation that makes up one of the best scenes in the show's history. If Timothy Olyphant or Neal McDonough don't win an Emmy, I will be shocked.

Nothing good ever happens past nightfall in Kentucky, at least on this show. There are two sheriff's deputies planting drugs in Shelby's truck, for one. He stops them with his shotgun, but it's clear they're playing dirty in Harlan County. Shelby then talks to Boyd, who decides he doesn't want his friend going anywhere alone from that point on. He goes to vis...

'Justified' Recap: Tying Up 'Loose Ends'

March 14th, 2012 2:03am EDT
Justified
Even the best Justified villain has to fall. And with only five episodes left in the show's third season, this is the beginning of what should be a fantastic end.

We start at the end of another long day for Raylan (does he even have short days?), as he contemplates what to do with the gun that killed his ex-wife's second husband. He stashes it in his apartment and then decides to inspect the ceiling.

The next morning, he's summoned into Art's office. Art wants to know what Raylan has on Quarles "right now that you can prove." After the resulting silence, he tells Raylan that until Quarl...

Neal McDonough Takes 'Justified' To Another Level

March 13th, 2012 2:00pm EDT
Neal McDonough
It was a tall order to follow up Margo Martindale's award-winning villainy on Justified. Yet veteran actor Neal McDonough has done just that and more.

He is the man behind Detroit mobster Robert Quarles, the latest adversary to cross paths with the infamous Raylan Givens, as played perfectly by Timothy Olyphant. When playing against an actor of Olyphant's caliber, one must be at a certain higher level already. But what makes McDonough a fantastic choice, the choice that I can't believe it took this long to think of, is that he doesn't just hold his own; watching him, one gets the sense tha...

'Burn Notice' Recap: 'Fail Safe' (4.18)

December 15th, 2011 11:17pm EST
Burn Notice
Fail Safe the film (either of them) was fantastic and chilling. "Fail Safe" the Burn Notice finale is not going to keep me up at night, but it certainly capped off the fifth season with a lot to talk about.

Anson has "an instant recipe for mayhem," and Michael's committed to "doing whatever it takes" to stop him from bringing back the very illegal organization that started it all. The episode starts with the moment most might have saved to the end - Michael having a face-to-face confrontation with the man who's been running his life all season, debating how much of a life Michael ha...
