Aziz Ansari Talks About New NBC Series 'Parks And Recreation'

March 23rd, 2009 10:03am EDT
Parks and Recreation
It may be a terrible thing to be fired by Dr. Cox on Scrubs but Aziz Ansari knows how to rebound. Aziz was nice enough to join us and discuss his time on Scrubs and his new show, Parks and Recreation in which he plays a "cynical" character working with Amy Poehler.

Mike: So we know Parks and Recreation is not an Office spin-off, but, those early rumors were there. A lot of people involved say it was never intended to be a spin-off. Do you have any idea how those rumors started?

Aziz: When I first met with Greg Daniels and Mike Schur, the executive producers, they told me the sh...

'Scrubs' Is Back!

January 6th, 2009 10:02am EST
Scrubs
Last winter NBC announced that they would not be picking up Scrubs for an eighth season. When a bizarre fantasy world episode concluded the season that was shortened by the writers' strike, fans were left with a bad taste in their mouths. Could this really be the end of the fun dramedy that we had grown to love?

Slowly, the rumors began to circle that the actors had been asked to come back to work to make more episodes. Die-hards held out hope, and it became a reality when ABC announced that they would be airing a new season of Scrubs in January 2009. ABC Studios has actually...

Celebrity Serial Daters

September 16th, 2008 9:15am EDT
John Mayer
In Hollywood, the dating circle seems to be so small that most celebrities share boyfriends and girlfriends and swap spit left and right. The time between significant others seems to get shorter and shorter as well. Last week's tabloid cover may show a huge celebrity breakup and the week after it will feature the same exes and who they're already dating next. And although this isn't the case with all of Hollywood, there are a few we like to call Celebrity Serial Daters.

John Mayer uses his smooth rock star status to make the ladies fall for him, but seems to break their hearts just a...

Supporting Superhero: A Look At The Stand-Out Film Roles Of Jason Bateman

July 1st, 2008 10:11am EDT
Jason Bateman
In the early part of his career, Jason Bateman was known as the cute sandy haired boy from the wholesome TV family. Beginning with Little House on the Prairie and taking it through "Silver Spoons" (where as the best friend he became part of the extended family) and "Valerie," he wore that role like it was his own skin. Only as he aged (like with 2001's "Some Of My Best Friends" and later with the critically acclaimed "Arrested Development") did he start to include sarcasm into his portrayals, opening up a world of possibilities for him to steal scenes in a number of feature films.

Hollywood's Sexiest Funnymen

Adam Sandler
In Hollywood there seems to be an everlasting stereotype that actors are extremely good looking and almost immortal. They are the untouchable eye candy on the screen. It doesn't matter what their personalities are like, we still idolize them and their looks.

Then there are those actors who seem to have very down-to-earth personalities and are so funny that you can't help but find them sexy. According to Psychology Today online, "The allure of male humor is so strong that female laughter may have evolved as a signal of sexual interest."

Here is our list of the top Hollywood sexy ...

Today's Top TV Duos

May 6th, 2008 8:37am EDT
The Office
What motivates audiences to watch TV shows? Why spend time on a series that will, in all likelihood, repeat storylines, invent contrived hook-ups and ultimately regress into something that challenges the viewer to wonder why he/she even began watching in the first place?

What's worse is that the viewers know this is going on. People sit in front of the boob tube every night knowing that Paula's going to say something stupid (scripted?) on "American Idol" and one of the "ER" doctors (models) is going to sleep with either another doctor (model) or endure an emotional breakdown due to a ...

Gossip Girl (The CW, 8 p.m.) - Someone's coming out of the closet. And on this show, he or she will probably do it wearing a fabulous outfit.

How I Met Your Mother (CBS, 8:30 p.m.) - Barney auditions SNL's Will Forte for the position of his rebound bro.

Two and a Half Men (CBS, 9 p.m.) - The writers of CSI take a stab at "Two and a Half Men." Literally. No need to worry. George Eads is on the case.

House (FOX, 9 p.m.) - House becomes convinced that a soap actor (Sex and the City's Jason Lewis) is sick and takes to diagnosing him for fear that his fave chara...

Dollhouse star Eliza Dushku
The time and financial constraints of the writers' strike are being felt this TV pilot season. The broadcast networks are developing half the number of pilots they usually do, ordering presentations in lieu of pilots for some and giving others the straight to series order.

Aside from NBC, which announced its schedule ahead of the pack last week, the networks have kept their plans for fall shrouded in mystery. We'll learn more during the networks' May upfronts. While we can't make any guarantees about which series will get the vote of confidence, here are some promising players to keep...

We Can't Wait For New Episodes Of. . .

March 6th, 2008 11:49am EST
Supernatural
For three months we labored through a very dry TV landscape full of reruns and retro-nostalgic reality shows, but it's true what they say. Time, or in this case, the strike, does make the heart grow fonder. We're giddy with anticipation for our favorite shows to come back with new episodes. Here's a peek at what has so excited for spring and why.

Last we saw of Gossip Girl, things had changed quite dramatically for many of the characters. Nate and Blair broke up after the truth about Chuck and Blair came out. Serena and Dan exchanged "I love yous." And perhaps most importantly, Jenny H...

TV Spotlight: 'Brothers & Sisters' Producer Greg Berlanti

February 29th, 2008 1:00pm EST
Brothers & Sisters
Dick Wolf, David E. Kelley, Shonda Rhimes and Joss Whedon have all done it. You may be wondering what IT is exactly. They've all at some time point created a spin-off or expanded their TV show into a franchise (see Law & Order). They've all done crossovers between their shows, if you count the backdoor Private Practice pilot on Grey's Anatomy last season.

But those crossovers would not have been possible if they didn't all share one common trait: all of them are showrunners who have, in recent memory, shepherded multiple television shows, sometimes across different channels.

Movie Review: 'The Ex' Is A Flat, Desperate Comedy

May 10th, 2007 3:04pm EDT
The Ex
The Ex isn't so much a movie with a plot as it is a filmed series of situations in which Zach Braff a) injures himself, b) humiliates himself, or c) both.

Borrowing early and often from Meet the Parents and You, Me & Dupree, this desperate comedy finds Braff starring as bumbling straight man Tom (sorta like his role on Scrubs), who always manages to say and do the most painfully awkward things around his wacky in-laws and co-workers, people with whom he's never in sync.

Most of these moments involve Chip (Jason Bateman), the chipper high school boyfriend of his wife, Sofia (Amand...

Does Zach Braff Have A Big Ego?

Insiders says bumbling Scrubs star Zach Braff has let the popularity of his hit show go straight to his head, according to Star magazine. “Zach used to be the most humble, unassuming guy,” a source close to him explains.

But when "Scrubs" got more popular, Zach, 31, reportedly got a hefty raise (to $350,000 per episode) and dated a few Hollywood stars- so his “ego has gotten really bloated,” the source says.

“It’s most obvious in his approach to women. He now waltzes into the hip nightclubs and immediately sets his sights on the most beautiful women. Zach is a great guy under...
