Best TV Couples That Aren't Together - But Should Be

February 13th, 2009 9:00am EST
House
There are a few unifying themes that you can find in almost any television show: drama, comedy, and yes, even a touch of romance. Comedies have plenty of drama (Hello Pam/Jim drama in The Office) and drama can have moments of comedy (everything Hurley says on Lost), but they all tend to have a focus on relationships. Even Law & Order, a cut and dry procedural, has a pairing here and there.

Yet there's a rule for shows that if a couple has great chemistry and sexual tension, don't let them get them together! It'll ruin the show! This has been the case a few times, but here are a few no...

Today's Top TV Duos

May 6th, 2008 8:37am EDT
The Office
What motivates audiences to watch TV shows? Why spend time on a series that will, in all likelihood, repeat storylines, invent contrived hook-ups and ultimately regress into something that challenges the viewer to wonder why he/she even began watching in the first place?

What's worse is that the viewers know this is going on. People sit in front of the boob tube every night knowing that Paula's going to say something stupid (scripted?) on "American Idol" and one of the "ER" doctors (models) is going to sleep with either another doctor (model) or endure an emotional breakdown due to a ...

Leave Them Hanging: Favorite TV Cliffhangers

April 2nd, 2008 2:00pm EDT
Lost
Television is a medium that thrives on manipulating audiences into tuning in, and no narrative device is more effective at accomplishing that task than the cliffhanger. With the end of the 2007-08 season rapidly approaching and new cliffhangers waiting in the wings, we have decided to celebrate our favorites from years past.

5) The Simpsons: "Who Shot Mr. Burns?"

The Cliffhanger: It didn't provoke quite the fervor of the "Dallas" storyline that it parodied, but this two-part episode did warrant a special "America's Most Wanted" and was discussed often during the summer of 19...

The series finale. There is nothing quite like it in television. Many shows aren't given the luxury of a proper final episode, instead they are canceled prematurely and often without advanced notice. Often times those series exit after airing just a normal episode, or even worse - a cliffhanger. Then there is another group, and it consists of popular and long running series' that either go out on their own terms or are given warning of their impending doom.

We are not going to concern ourselves with the first group; after all it is hard to criticize the creative decisions of writ...
