Mel Blanc & Pinto ColvigWoody Woodpecker and His Talent Show Release Date: 1961 Label: Capitol Records Rating: ![]() |
A good idea, Woody Woodpecker attending a talent show. Maybe some talent might rub off on him. One of a series of recording studio ventures involving voice artists Mel Blanc and Pinto Colvig, this is something of an arm wrestle over who would win the award for greater stupidity, Woody on side one or Bozo the clown on side two. Bozo "throws a party for all of his friends," we are told as a plot synopsis, making one wonder if perhaps a cover version of "Solitary Man" is coming. Of all the productions done in this series, marketed worldwide by Ziv International, this one seems about the loosest, with the voice artists either guesting on each other's projects, or getting so sloppy that they start to sound like each other. A few of the bits Blanc performs during the woodpecker's talent show are brilliant; no surprise considering the voicebox behind them. Eugene Chadbourne, All Music Guide
