Demian Bichir Delves Into The Nation's Immigration Debate

July 10th, 2013 4:36pm EDT
Demian Bichir
Mexican actor Demian Bichir is urging legislators across the country to secure an improved path for Mexican immigrants seeking citizenship and a better life in America after shooting new TV series The Bridge.

The actor, who portrayed an undocumented worker in Oscar-nominated film A Better Life, plays a Mexican detective working with authorities to solve a murder after a dead body is found on a bridge connecting the two countries.

The subplot has prompted him to wade into the contentious border debate facing government officials, who are currently considering tighter security restriction...

On The Red Carpet From The 84th Annual Academy Awards (Video)

Meryl Streep 84th Oscars
I was back on the red carpet last night and I am still recovering from celebrity overload. They warned us that it was a work in progress and to be flexible this year as they were trying to accommodate as many of us as possible. Well, I couldn't have been happier with our area because the nominees and presenters are big fans of online media. Dujardin was ecstatic as he made his acceptance speech and he invoked his The Artist character George Valentin to yell exclamations in French, including a curse word which is the equivalent of dropping the 'f-bomb'.

He was asked about his swearing during a backstage press conference and Dujard...

The Artist and Hugo
Tom Hanks, who ended last year's Academy Awards by announcing Best Picture winner The King's Speech, started things off at this year's Oscars by handing out the evening's first two awards, for Best Cinematography and Best Art Direction. Both awards went to Martin Scorsese's 3D family film Hugo, quickly setting the tone for a possible upset in the coveted Best Picture category at the end of the ceremony.

But that wasn't to be, as frontrunner The Artist took most of the night's major awards, including Best Picture, Actor (Jean Dujardin) and Director (Michel Hazanavicius).

Both films finishe...
