'Saw' Named Most Successful Horror Series

The gory Saw movies have been named the most successful horror films of all time in a presentation at the Comic-Con convention in San Diego, California.

The gruesome franchise, which stars Tobin Bell as a trap-setting serial killer, has been running since 2004 and has seen one film released every Halloween for the last six years. The series has now been named the most popular in horror movie history after taking more than $730 million at the worldwide box office and selling more than 30 million DVDs.

Movie Bad Guys Lead Nominations For Academy Membership

"Saw" actor Tobin Bell, James Gandolfini, Christoph Waltz and 2010 Oscar nominees Carey Mulligan, Anna Kendrick, Jeremy Renner, Gabourey Sidibe and Vera Farmiga have been invited to become members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and help decide future Academy Awards.

Academy officials have invited 135 actors, writers, directors, executives and behind-the-scenes icons to join up, explaining that everyone on the list has "distinguished themselves by their contributions to theatrical motion pictures".

Last Tuesday, I had a chance to see "Where the Wild Things Are." Visually the film is stunning; it integrates handheld camera shots in the appropriate moments to take viewers into the action.
