Harry Belafonte Honored In Hollywood

Legendary entertainer Harry Belafonte was presented with an honorary Oscar at the Governors Awards held in Los Angeles on Saturday.

The Calypso singer was given the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award for his civil rights campaigning over the course of his life.

Belafonte accepted the award from Susan Sarandon and urged Hollywood's stars, including Keira Knightley, Emily Blunt, John Krasinski, Ron Howard and Logan Lerman, who were all present at the event, to use their fame to make the world a better place.

Harry Belafonte Files Lawsuit Against Martin Luther King, Jr.'s Estate

Legendary singer/actor Harry Belafonte is suing Martin Luther King, Jr.'s estate after officials blocked the sale of three historic documents.

On Tuesday, the 86 year-old humanitarian filed a lawsuit against the late Civil Rights Activist's three children, Dexter, Bernice and Martin Luther King III, insisting the papers belong to him.

The three documents feature a draft Vietnam War speech, notes on a speech King never got to deliver in Memphis, Tennessee, and a condolence letter from President Lyndon B. Johnson to King's wife following the civil rights leader's assassination in 1968.

Kerry Washington took top honors on Friday night at the 2013 National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) Image Awards.
 
The actress, 36, won three awards: Best Supporting Actress ("Django Unchained"), Best Actress in a Drama Series ("Scandal") and President's Award for her public service work on behalf of President Barack Obama.

Mary J. Blige, Kanye West and Jamie Foxx were big winners at the BET Awards last night. All three stars walked away from the ceremony, which celebrates black artists, at the Shrine Auditorium, in Los Angeles, with two prizes each.
