'Supernatural' Season 9 Premiere Recap: Oh. My. Angel.

10/9/2013 10:30am EDT
"Supernatural's" season 8 finale left many angst-coated balls in the air: Castiel, having been tricked by Metatron, was rendered human; the angels were cast out of heaven; and Sam, choosing life, abandoned the trials only to very nearly perish anyway.  The season 9 premiere managed to keep all those balls compellingly in play while still ninja-kicking us in the heart.

Only a day has passed since what the media was calling the Global Meteor Shower had occurred.  No one is tweeting or Instagramming the celestial beings roaming the earth because most of them have found vessels.  In the hospit...

'Supernatural' Season 9: 5 Spoilers You Need To Know

10/7/2013 3:32pm EDT
“Supernatural,” The CW sci-fi drama about a pair of monster-hunting brothers, has spent its eight year run defying the odds.  It had several brushes with cancellation before nearly doubling its ratings in season 4.  The show also churned out some of its best episodes in its eighth season with an edge-of-your-seat finale that ended with all angels exiled from heaven and Sam collapsing from the trials.  The brothers Winchester return on Oct. 8, so here are five spoilers you need to know…

Welcome Back, Bobby.  This summer, Jim Beaver stunned fans announcing on Twitter that Bobby, Sam and De...

Jim Beaver Talks 'Justified,' Leaving 'Supernatural' And Whether He’ll Be Back On 'Breaking Bad'

6/11/2013 10:30am EDT
Jim Beaver on 'Justified'
There’s not many offers to interview celebrities that come in my inbox that get me as excited as the one I received a few weeks ago. You might not even know his name, but odds are, you know some of his roles.

Jim Beaver is an actor I’ve followed for years, mostly because he’s had memorable roles in some of my favorite shows in the world ranging from Breaking Bad to Supernatural to Justified.

We covered all of his big roles in a recent interview. If you’re not caught up on all of those shows, you may want to steer clear of spoilers.

Jim, first, I have to say, as the huge TV watcher I am, ...

'Supernatural' Recap: The Road To Hell

4/4/2013 9:30am EDT
This season of "Supernatural" has been dubbed "Season Gr8" by fans, and it's not hard to figure out why.  The show rebounded from its rocky beginnings to truly live up to its moniker.  "Taxi Driver" is yet another example of this season’s ambitious strides in visual effects and sweeping, heartrending plots.

Grab your fourteen boxes of tissues, and let's dive in, shall we?

The old proverb "The road to hell is paved with good intentions" is the theme for Sam and Dean’s horrific lives.  And for poor Kevin Tran's (the increasingly impressive Osric Chau) world-saving intentions have set him ...

'Justified' Recap: 'Decoy'

3/20/2013 9:20am EDT
Things are definitely hitting the fan in this week's Justified. While the Marshals try to get Drew Thompson someplace safe - you have to love Art inquiring about a rocket launcher - Boyd is trying to appease an unhappy Nick Augustine (guest star Mike O'Malley; can you believe this is the guy who used to host Nickelodeon's GUTS?).

Holed up in his father's house, Raylan recounts history with Drew (guest star Jim Beaver), at least until Art comes in and gives him a status update. "Art, we gotta move, and we gotta move soon," Raylan insists. That's a good idea, because Boyd is telling Augustin...

'Supernatural' Season 7 Finale Recap: Winchesters, Interrupted

5/19/2012 9:50am EDT
ackles and padalecki
At its core, “Supernatural” is about two brothers, a badass car, and the crazy, colorful creatures they encounter and people they save on their road-tripping adventures. It simultaneously excels and breaks our hearts when anything threatens the delicate balance of off-the-wall humor, fraternal bonding and compelling action. The seventh season finale capped off a season of supreme highs and devilish lows by bidding farewell to a fan favorite, resurrecting another, and boldly going where no Winchester had gone before. Before I delve into commentary, I must rock out to “Carry On My Wayward ...

'Supernatural' 7.22 Recap: The Winchesters And The Bloody Horcruxes

5/12/2012 8:16am EDT

I’ve always admired the old adage, “Don’t work hard; work smart.” While I’m assuming the crew and cast toil their hot little asses off, the writers have always worked smart. This week’s installment of “Supernatural” is proof. as it brilliantly connects the bizarre dots scattered throughout the season and still manages to poke fun at both Americans who love mass-produced junk food and the heated political climate.

“There Will Be Blood” begins with a “Dateline”-esque segment about Dick Roman's purchase of Sucracorp, the largest manufacturer of high fructose corn syrup, aka the ingredien...

The CW Renews 'Vampire Diaries,' '90210' & 'Supernatural'

5/4/2012 8:09am EDT
vampire diaries cast
It’s better late than never. While most networks only have a handful shows with fates undetermined, the CW just made its first saves by officially renewing “The Vampire Diaries,” “90210” and “Supernatural” for the 2012-2013 television season.

“The Vampire Diaries” and "90210" will be entering their fourth season and fifth seasons, respectively. While “Supernatural,” starring Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles, will be The CW’s longest-running scripted show when it kicks off its eighth season in the fall.

The paranormal drama will also have a new showrunner at the helm next season. Las...

'Supernatural' 7.20 Recap: Geekster's Paradise

4/28/2012 8:12am EDT

“Supernatural” has always been admirably diverse, but around the fifth season, hunting became a good old boys club. Granted, those boys were equal parts pretty and goofy, but I was still perturbed by the severe lack of female hunters, angels and key players. So I wished, prayed and may have even written a few angry emails begging for a decent female character that wasn’t a damsel in need of rescue or charmed by Sam and Dean’s spectacular faces, had no problem fighting for the greater good and maybe had a few awesome one-liners. The answer to my prayers came in the form of Charlie Bradbur...

'Supernatural' 7.19 Recap: The Odds Aren't Ever In Their Favor

4/21/2012 8:30am EDT
ackles and padalecki
It’s probably inappropriate if I say I’d like to be a “fancy lady.” The moniker makes it seem alluring, like a woman who wears the finest dresses detailed with gold buttons and a bustle and rides side-saddle. It sounds like the heroine in Keira Knightley’s next movie. Only an old-timey ghost on “Supernatural” could make the world’s oldest profession sound romantic and cool.

“Of Grave Importance” is a decent installment that finally reunites Bobby’s ghost with the Sam and Dean.

The episode begins, not with the massacres of teenagers, but with Dean stress-eating on the hood of their l...

'Supernatural' 7.18 Recap: Raise Your Glass

3/31/2012 8:31am EDT
padalecki, ackles
Leave it to “Supernatural” to wallop fans with Sam bravely facing his own demise only for poor dead Castiel to fly in for a last minute save and then to return with a lighthearted, filler episode that played as both a love letter to binge-drinking and a PSA for drinking and driving, and then stomp on our hearts with a one-two punch of--SPOILER ALERT-- Bobby Singer’s singers return. That’s enough to drive this liquor-averse blogger to drink in celebration and because of all the feelings. Where’s a raspberry mojito when you need one or 14? I love this show so much.

This episode starts ...

'Supernatural' 7.12 Recap: Dean Brings Sexy Back To The Future

1/14/2012 8:40am EST
ackles, padalecki
It’s been a big week for “Supernatural” fans. The little show that could won two People’s Choice Awards (Favorite Network Drama and Favorite Sci-Fi/Fantasy Show). Suck it, “Vampire Diaries!” also reported that—SPOILER ALERT— “Supernatural” staple Jim Beaver will eventually return, and my favorite guest star, Mark Pellegrino will be reprising his fabulously evil turn as Lucifer in the episode 15. So this week's episode felt like icing on a very awesome pop cult cake.

“Time After Time” was artfully pieced together in a non-linear manner, but I’m going to do my best to break...

'Supernatural' 7.11 Recap: What About Bobby?

1/7/2012 7:56am EST
“Supernatural’s” winter hellatus (as the fans affectionately call it) gave me a lot of time to hypothesize where the show could go from the last moments of “Death’s Door,” where Bobby seemingly headed into the great beyond: Crowley could appear with the last-minute save like the badass King of Hell he is. Castiel could emerge from the waters of the lake, a fully redeemed angel of the Lord, and heal Bobby’s brain. He could've survived but suffered personality-altering brain damage and anemsia. Sam and Dean could have hunter’s funeral, a body burning on the pyre. It's “Supernatural” afte...

'Supernatural' Recap: Bobby's Final Destination?

12/3/2011 9:08am EST
As a fan of “Supernatural,” there are certain things I expect each week: crass, dark humor, violent deaths, epic monsters, and of course, a hearty helping of brotherly, visceral angst. After 135 episodes, I thought the show was done taking my breath away. And then I curled up on the couch to watch “Supernatural’s” winter finale, “Death’s Door,” and realized that executive producer Sera Gamble and company had found completely new and twisted ways to destroy me. And I love them for it. “Death’s Door” was a wistful, beautifully written and acted exploration of the human spirit, the traged...

'Supernatural' Recap: The Winchesters Ruin Our Thanksgiving Appetites

11/19/2011 7:59am EST
padalecki and ackles
Ever since The CW released the description for this week’s episode, I’ve been drooling, more than Dean Winchester approaching the Biggerson’s pie buffet, at the notion of a gore-filled hour of my favorite demon hunters becoming the hunted by a flesh-eating predator that looked like a zombie from “The Walking Dead.” Instead, I had to watch an exposition-heavy episode where one of the best hunters in the world was taken down by a friggin’ sandwich. With Thanksgiving around the corner, I’m quite grateful that Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) are so incredibly easy on the eyes, ...

'Supernatural' Recap: Double The Winchesters, Half The Fun

10/29/2011 8:38am EDT
padalecki and ackles
I have a love-hate relationship with spoilers. As a television addict who can barely survive the mere seven days between episodes, I covet the irresistible nuggets of coming attractions. As an invested fan, I want to experience the adventure with the characters and be as shocked and awed as the next unspoiled viewer. It’s a pop culture quagmire. I heard about “Slash Fiction’s” awesome premise weeks ago. The episode had a fabulous potential for badassery, gore and the patented fraternal angst that keeps the fangirls swooning after more than 130 episodes. Sadly, “Slash Fiction”—while ent...

'Supernatural' Recap: The Ghosts Of Hunter's Past

10/15/2011 8:54am EDT
jensen ackles
Last week’s episode of “Supernatural” ended with the season’s biggest shocker so far when Dean killed Sam’s first crush—a brain-eating demon with a morals—after his little brother had all but begged him to trust in his judgment that she wouldn’t kill again and let her go.

It was an ugly moment for the often self-destructive Dean Winchester, and it spoke to his frayed mental state. His guilt carried over to this week’s episode that felt like classic “Supernatural” and a love letter to the fans who’ve stuck around for seven crazy seasons. “Defending Your Life” had loads of gore, the Winch...

'Supernatural' Recap: Sam Lets His Freak Flag Fly

10/8/2011 8:37am EDT
When we last left the “Supernatural” universe, Sam and Dean were careening towards the Leviathan-infested hospital via ambulance—Sam was seizing with a head injury, Dean with bloodily broken leg, and Bobby presumed dead.

Slickly directed by series’ star Jensen Ackles, “The Girl Next Door” was thankfully easier on my fangirl heart. It began mere minutes after last week’s cliffhanger with the brothers arriving at Sioux Falls General. Dean, a fighter to the end, tried to climb off the gurney and find his brother. His doctor explained that Sam had “bashed his head quite seriously.” Forge...

'Supernatural' Recap: There's A Devil On Sam's Shoulder

10/1/2011 11:30am EDT
padalecki and ackles
Just in case last week’s episode didn’t completely destroy you, our favorite show returned to scrub your heart over a cheese grater and give your soul a few gut-punches with an episode jam-packed with “Supernatural’s” unique brand of campy special effects and life-ruining angst. “Hello Cruel World” picked up right where the premiere left off: Sam was in a secluded part of the demonic laboratory succumbing to all-too real hallucinations of Lucifer, and Castiel’s vessel was just taken over by those sinister Leviathans that tossed Dean and Bobby around like a couple of hot potatoes.

'Supernatural' Recap: Have Faith That It Will Get Worse

9/24/2011 12:30pm EDT
padalecki and ackles
When “Supernatural” first started seven years ago, it was just a show about two brothers with a cool car, saving people and hunting things while they searched for their father. I had no idea that it would nearly double its ratings in the fourth season—thanks to passionate fans and the internet—or that it would snarkily and bravely tackle such enormous themes as religion, God and the true meaning of faith. But season six ended with everyone's favorite angel, Castiel, declaring himself the new God after bingeing on Purgatory’s doomed souls with as much gusto as Dean (Jensen Ackles) attacks ...

Wishes Of A Television-aholic: 'Supernatural'

8/5/2011 11:30am EDT
Padalecki, Ackles
To say that I am a fan of “Supernatural”—The CW thriller with a rabid cult following—would be like saying that the Oprah Winfrey has a little bit of money in the bank. I have ravenously watched it, trolled the internet for spoilers and leaked script pages, and giddily listened to interviews from the writers, producers and actors who speak at conventions like Comic-Con.

I love this show—about two brothers who travel the country in a '67 Chevy Impala and hunt demons and other evil entities while dodging law enforcement—because of its dark humor, gut-wrenching drama, skin-crawling gore, and...

'Supernatural' 6x06 Recap: 'You Can't Handle The Truth'

11/1/2010 1:19pm EDT
spn Dean
When anyone in the town of Springfield ask for the truth, they end up getting barraged with more brutal honesty than they know what to do with. The truth is more than any of them can take, leading to a rise in suicides and something new for Sam and Dean to investigate. It doesn't take them long to figure out that the victims were being force-fed the truth, all they have to do now is figure out why and stop it.

Ever since he realized that Sam allowed him to be vamped, Dean's struggled to even be in the same room as his brother. Bobby is sympathetic, but they've run Sam through all the test...

'Supernatural' 6x04 Recap: 'Weekend At Bobby's'

10/16/2010 8:29pm EDT
Bobby Rufus
I'll say it right now; I love this episode. It starts out with a flashback to last year- Bobby is just finishing up on a spell to summon Crowley, who still holds his soul. Crowley is as smarmy as ever- they've stopped Lucifer, so he's been out celebrating. And no- you don't want to know how someone like him gets his party on.

Bobby offers him a drink, but Crowley turns him down, the may have "saved the sodding world together", but that doesn't mean he has to drink the swill that Bobby calls booze.

Crowley, through with the pleasantries, moves on to the real reason Bobby called him down h...

Supernatural 6x01 recap: 'Exile on Main Street'

9/25/2010 12:49pm EDT
It's been a year since the events of last season's finale; the 'Then' recap flashes scenes of Sam jumping in the pit, telling Dean to go find Lisa and live the normal life neither of them thought they'd have. Dean wakes up in the 'Now', in bed next to Lisa. Once again, the music for this show is perfection, Bob Seger's 'Beautiful Loser' playing in the background. Dean goes about his day; instead of trunks full of weapons and cutting off vamp heads, he's working construction and having back-yard cookouts. He's no longer in the Impala, he's got a big clunker of a truck and works on the engine...

Q&A: 'Supernatural's' Bobby Singer Lays All His Cards On The Table

10/29/2009 11:34am EDT
In tonight's "very special episode" of Supernatural, "The Curious Case of Dean Winchester," fan favorite Bobby Singer makes a bet with a demon in order to regain some of his youth and health back. As we all know (and Bobby should have!), though, anytime you think something good can come from demons, you are sorely mistaken. I had the opportunity to chat with the lovely and uber-friendly Jim Beaver yesterday about what is in store for Bobby, his time on the show, and how he hopes to see it all wrap up.

Your character, Bobby, has definitely been put through the ringer before in seasons pas...

'Supernatural' Recap: Free To Be You And Me

9/25/2009 8:02am EDT
Supernatural showed the audience that Sam and Dean were really set on going separate ways and not just pulling another quick time apart. Dean hunted while Sam got a job bartending and started going by the name Keith. In spite of not speaking the entire episode, the brothers both had encounters with archangels.

Dean got a visit from Castiel when Cas tried to set up a meeting with the archangel that killed him. Cas admitted that he most likely wouldn't survive another encounter with Raphael, so Dean suggested they go out and meet some women. Dean then found out Castiel was a virgin and fou...

'Supernatural' Recap: 'Good God, Y'All'

9/18/2009 8:50am EDT
Thanks to his injuries in the season premiere of Supernatural, Bobby was stuck in a wheelchair. Castiel showed up and explained that he was now a rebel angel from hell and cut off from some of his powers, most importantly healing. After he carved the symbols into Sam and Dean's ribs, he was now forced to use a cell phone to track Dean down. Castiel told them that their plan to take on Lucifer was stupid, and he planned on finding God to let him send Lucifer back to hell. Castiel then took Dean's amulet, because it turned out to be able to warm up in the presence of God. The best line of the...

'Supernatural' Season Finale Recap: Lucifer Rising

5/15/2009 9:00am EDT
Aside from season two, the past three season finales of Supernatural have ended with a cliffhanger. The season four finale started with the usual quick season recap set to Kansas' "Carry on My Wayward Son" that ended with the Sam walking out on Dean.

In the teaser set in a Maryland covenant in 1972, a demon-possessed priest explained to a group of nuns that his father was trapped and the door was there at the convent. The demon's eyes turned yellow, and revealed it was Azazel, the same demon that started that the Winchesters hunted before finally killing him in the season two finale. ...

'Supernatural' Recap: 'When the Levee Breaks'

5/8/2009 9:59am EDT
Sam and Dean have been building towards a confrontation since the first episodes of Supernatural season four. With Sam's constant lies about what he's been up to with Ruby, it was only a matter of time before Dean found and got mad. Dean's version of mad started last week with him locking Sam into Bobby's panic room. In tonight's episode, Sam is still locked in the panic room and tries to get Dean to let him out.

While suffering through demon blood withdrawal, Sam had a few less than pleasant hallucinations. First up was the demon Alastair who he imagined to be torturing him. While Sa...

'Supernatural' Recap: 'The Rapture'

5/1/2009 10:22am EDT
This season on Supernatural, the show introduced the angel Castiel as an important new character. As far as the body he was borrowing, Castiel never gave any explanation other than saying it belonged to a "devout man…who prayed for this". Tonight's episode begins with Dean calmly fishing, and Castiel appearing to tell him they need to talk. Dean realizes he's dreaming and Castiel gives him an address where they can meet in private.

Sam and Dean go to the location Castiel gave Dean. They find an unconscious Castiel, but it turns out to be Jimmy, the guy that Castiel's body belongs to. H...
