Amitabh Bachchan honoured with Global Icon of the Year award

Veteran Indian actor Amitabh Bachchan has been honoured with the Global Icon of the Year Award for his film career.

The Bollywood star was feted at the NRI Awards in India on Monday (24Mar14).

He told, "I think I am not the only one person who should be honoured with this award. In fact, there are many of my friends in the entertainment world."

He then dedicated his latest accolade to "the younger generation" of Bollywood stars, stating that because of them "our film industry is known in the whole world".

Bachchan began his career in the 1960s.

Bollywood actress Jiah Khan has been found dead at her home in Mumbai, India.

Police are investigating the 25-year-old's death as a possible suicide and are seeking information from her neighbours. No further details about her passing were available as WENN went to press.

Khan made her debut in 2007 opposite Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan, and has also shared the screen with stars including Aamir Khan and Akshay Kumar.

She was born in New York and raised in London, before relocating to Mumbai to carve out an acting career.

Three of Oprah Winfrey's bodyguards were detained in India on Thursday after allegedly becoming embroiled in a brawl with local TV crews.

The talk show queen is currently in the country shooting her new show Oprah's Next Chapter and was travelling to the town of Mathura, about 90 miles south of Delhi when an altercation took place.

Three of Winfrey's guards were reported to have been taken in to custody when video equipment belonging to local TV crews was allegedly destroyed, but they were released after issuing a written apology, according to the Associated Press.

The veteran Indian actor has landed a role in the big screen adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's classic tale, as Meyer Wolfsheim - a Jewish man with a penchant for gambling.

Indian model-turned-actress Aishwarya Rai is pregnant with her first child.

The Asian star, who was once dubbed the most beautiful woman in the world, will give birth later this year.

The former Miss World is married to Bollywood pin-up Abhishek Bachchan, the son of Indian movie legend Amitabh Bachchan, who broke the news on Tuesday via Twitter.

The veteran actor wrote, "I am going to become a grandfather! Aishwarya is expecting! So happy and thrilled!"

Rockers Bon Jovi are to headline India's upcoming Live Earth concert, according to Internet reports.

The Livin' On A Prayer hitmakers will perform at the Andheri Sports Complex in Mumbai in December, according to sources. Other major acts have yet to be confirmed, but Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan will also make an appearance.
