Ricky Gervais Hits Back At 'Derek' Critics

April 9th, 2012 12:43pm EDT
Ricky Gervais
Ricky Gervais has defended his new TV show Derek over concerns the sitcom mocks those with learning difficulties.

The British funnyman plays the title role in the series, which is billed as the story of "a simple, vulnerable man working in an old people's home."

The show is yet to be broadcast but Gervais has already been forced to address critics who claim the comedy makes light of the mentally disabled, insisting the character does not have a "specific and defined disability."

Gervais says, "Derek is a fictional character and is defined by his creator, me. If I say I don't mean him t...

Ryan Reynolds
Ryan Reynolds is Hollywood's new top gun after beating Tom Cruise's lap time during a racetrack challenge for British TV show "Top Gear."

The star got behind the wheel of a Kia hatchback for the show's Star in a Reasonably Priced Car segment, which aired in the U.K. on Sunday, and admitted the challenge was frustrating for him because he prefers to ride motorcycles.

Footage of his lap had to be bleeped considerably because he hurled obscenities throughout his drive.

He told host Jeremy Clarkson, "I'd like to think I'm a horrible driver. I ride motorcycles everywhere, so you can just race...

Other new releases fared poorly - director Paul W.S. Anderson's "The Three Musketeers" revamp and Rowan Atkinson's "Johnny English Reborn" were big flops.

The Three Musketeers grossed a disappointing $8.8 million and comedy "Johnny English Reborn" made only $3.8 million at the box office.

'Top Gear' 17.04 'Rowan Atkinson' Review

September 12th, 2011 10:21pm EDT
Top Gear
It's time for more Top Gear. Tonight, Jeremy uses a machine, James writes on a blackboard, and Richard throws fruit into a caravan. Sounds thrilling, doesn't it?

We open the show with Jeremy discussing the reputation of the Jaguar name, before he tells us that the new Jaguar XKR-S is the most powerful road car they've ever made, "on the edge of Ferrari territory." He goes on to say that the car's sacrificed a whole shopping list of stuff for speed. Yet it might be for naught, as he suggests that the speed-obsessed might be better off with a Nissan GTR instead.

How do we solve th...
