'Black Swan' Blends Frightening Hallucination Seamlessly with Reality

12/7/2010 12:21am EST
Black Swan
There is no doubt that the immense pressure to succeed in the world of professional ballet can be crippling for those who chose it as their calling. Parents and instructors are intrusive enough with their expectations; however an even larger source of stress is rivalry with other dancers for the top slots in stage productions.

Nina (Natalie Portman), the main character in Darren Aronofsky’s intense psychological thriller “Black Swan,” has to deal with all of this external drama, none of which compares though to the mess she has cooked up in her own head. This is because Nina literall...

Mila Kunis Says Kissing Natalie Portman Was Easy

Mila Kunis & Natalie Portman
Black Swan is becoming one of the most talked about movies of the year. There’s Oscar buzz for Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis, an abstract film open to many different interpretations, and a racy love scene between the two stars. Kunis plays the ambitious understudy to a prima ballerina (Portman), and in one scene seduces her.

“Any time that you do any intimate scene on film it's going to be a little uncomfortable whether it's the same sex or opposite sex,” Kunis said. “I think the great thing about this was that Natalie and I were actually lucky enough to be friends prior to production whi...

Mila Kunis ordered her father to leave a screening of new thriller Black Swan so he would miss her explicit lesbian sex scene with Natalie Portman.

The 27 year old plays a ballet dancer named Lily in the upcoming Darren Aronofsky movie, which sees the actress engage in a raunchy love scene with co-star Portman.

Kunis' dad admitted he was uncomfortable with the risqué plot, so she advised him to leave the room when the sequence was shown.

She tells, "He was like, 'I don't think I should see the movie.' I was like, 'See the movie. There's going to be a point; get up and leave.' ...

Winona Ryder Apologized To Natalie Portman Over 'Black Swan' Character

12/1/2010 12:14am EST
Winona Ryder
Winona Ryder presented Natalie Portman with a small gift after they finished filming Black Swan to apologize for the "horrible" lines she had to deliver as her on-screen rival.

Ryder plays a prima ballerina who is replaced by Portman's younger dancer character in a production of Swan Lake in the dark drama - and insists she felt guilty for making so many cruel jibes.

She tells Britain's Total Film magazine, "I wrote (to) Natalie and I got her something when I had finished filming, saying, 'I'm so sorry I had to say all those horrible things.'"

But Ryder admits the movie's script resonate...

Celebrities Who Lost A Lot Weight For Their Roles

11/30/2010 4:00pm EST
The Black Swan
Some actors and actresses are completely dedicated to their craft - just look at Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis, who both shed some serious weight for their roles as rival ballerinas in Black Swan. However, they are just a few of many stars that lost pounds to perfect their characters.

Mila Kunis dropped to 95 pounds, and Natalie Portman was beginning to scare Black Swan director Darren Aronofsky with her thin looks. Mila said at the time, "I could see why this industry is so f**ked up, because at 95 pounds, I would literally look at myself in the mirror and I was like, 'Oh my God!"

His journey is terrorized by an obnoxious stranger (Candy) he can’t seem to shake. The odd couple is forced to travel together, enduring a comical series of catastrophes, while unwittingly forming a frien...

Natalie Portman was left in agony after she "dislocated a rib" on the set of new movie Black Swan - because producers couldn't afford an on-site medic.

The 29-year-old actress, who plays a ballerina in the Darren Aronofsky film, spent up to eight hours a day in dance training to make her portrayal believable. Portman appeared on the Late Show with David Letterman on Monday night, revealing the sidesplitting pain she suffered after a lift went wrong.

She said, "I injured a rib, I like dislocated a rib, it sort of went under another one, when you get lifted it just sort of went under."

11/12/2010 6:33pm EST
Mark Wahlberg
Mark Wahlberg has no regrets about sacrificing a large pay packet to ensure his latest film The Fighter went ahead - because the movie "had to get made."

The actor plays boxer 'Irish' Micky Ward in the biopic, but the project suffered a series of setbacks when co-star Matt Damon and director Darren Aronofsky dropped out, while negotiations to sign up Brad Pitt also fell through. The film also went from being a big budget movie to a smaller independent film, meaning Wahlberg to reportedly forego most of his salary to keep the project afloat.

However, Wahlberg is adamant he made the right...

Yesterday, Vulture reported that Darren Aronofsky is currently in talks to direct 20th Century Fox’s untitled ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine’ sequel. According to the piece, Aronofsky was the favored man to take on the new ‘Superman’ movie but Warner Bros. needs the project to start production in 2011 and with reported script issues, they decided to offer the project to Zack Snyder, thinking he would get the project moving much faster in order to avoid any lawsuits. I don’t know why Aronofsky is all of a sudden the go to guy for super hero movies and sequels. He hasn’t made a huge tent pole a...

Since her intense breakout role in 1994’s “The Professional,” Natalie Portman has been one of the most respected and versatile actors working in Hollywood. It makes sense that Portman has become one of the most talented performers in Hollywood considering the amazing list of directors with whom she’s worked:

Luc Besson (“The Professional”)

Michael Mann (“Heat”)

Q&A: Brett Ratner On 'Beverly Hills Cop IV,' 'The Shooter Series,' And What He Thinks Of Comic Book Fans

9/9/2009 12:01pm EDT
Brett Ratner
Is Brett Ratner misunderstood? The "Rush Hour" and "X-Men: The Last Stand" director thinks that's quite possible.

His new retrospective DVD series, "The Shooter Series," (to be released September 15) paints the some may call party-boy director in a different light. Contemporaries such as Quentin Tarantino share their experiences about working with Ratner; and the director's early student films, commercials, and music videos are also chronicled.

Ratner also doesn't parse words about his feelings toward the vocal online community who criticized his work on "X-Men: The Last Stand," and h...
