Although nominated for numerous awards and receiving some oscars, I believe he is a very under-rated actor in the eyes of the general public. He generally is portraying a very likable character - but the depth of his range includes one of the most sinister and evil characters in film history Wait Until Dark. Personally, I think his tour de force performance was as the deaf-mute in The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter - which has finally been released on DVD. I am still dumbfounded that he did not receive the Academy's Best Actor Award for that role. Although he;s had a number of recent appearances in featured roles, I fear they are the only ones for which he'll generally be remembered, Most people today are only interested in the most recent and popular as far as movies are concerned and will most likely not even glance at a number of his films which I;m sure will be true classics. | ||
