Aziz Ansari Signs $3.5M Deal For Book On Modern Dating

August 23rd, 2013 11:35am EDT
Aziz Ansari
Aziz Ansari is set to hand out dating tips in a new book.

The Parks and Recreation actor has landed a deal with publisher Penguin Press to pen a book about the perils of dating in the modern age.

A statement from the 30 year-old comedian reads, "You know when you text someone you're romantically interested in and you don't hear anything back and then you see them post a photo of a pizza on Instagram? That's exactly what I want this book to deal with."

"These are strange conundrums that no generation has ever faced before and it's a fascinating jumping off point for what I hope will be...

'Parks And Recreation' - 'Bowling For Votes' Recap

January 27th, 2012 3:46pm EST
Bowling for Votes
This week’s episode of Parks and Recreation brought to mind an interview I read recently with Chris Onstad, the writer-artist behind Achewood, a popular web comic about cats who make fun of The Cure. After nine years of churning out content for Achewood—comics, blog posts, books, t-shirts, mugs—Onstad’s output started to trickle until, suddenly, it stopped. To put it mildly, his fans freaked out. The reason why he stopped doesn’t really matter in this context, but in the interview, Onstad touches on how the small amount of negative feedback he received negated much of the wild praise that h...

'Parks And Recreation' - 'Campaign Ad' Recap

January 20th, 2012 3:03pm EST
Campaign Ad
I can’t think of another show with actors as skilled at playing stupid as some of the ones on Parks and Recreation. Be it the insane, witless ramblings of the Pawnee general public or Andy’s never-ending parade of catastrophic accidents, it really makes you wonder if Leslie and co. should look into the content of Pawnee’s water supply. Tonight, we meet perhaps the most delightfully dumb specimen to ever cross paths with the Parks department: city council candidate and heir to the Sweetums candy fortune Bobby Newport, played by the wonderful Paul Rudd.

For all of the hubbub around Leslie’s ...

Parks and Recreation - 'Citizen Knope' Recap

December 9th, 2011 2:48pm EST
Citizen Knope
Generally speaking, this season of Parks and Recreation has been strong, but these last couple of episodes have by far been the best. The first half of the season concentrated largely on how splintered the Parks Department had become with the departure of Tom, and Leslie off chasing her dreams of political office while trying to ignore her continued affection for Ben. This led to much of the cast doing their own thing, with the writers throwing them a bone every once in a while in the form of C or D plots that never really amounted to anything. Sometimes these diversions worked—April and An...

'Parks And Recreation' - 'The Trial Of Leslie Knope' Recap

December 2nd, 2011 3:21pm EST
The Trial of Leslie Knope
Of all of the characters that we’ve seen roaming around the muraled corridors of Pawnee city hall, Chris Traeger is the one that we really know the least about. We know all about his health food kick, his obsession with exercise and being a stickler for the rules—we know all of that… but there’s still something naggingly mysterious about the man. Chris dragging Leslie in front of an ethics committee for her relationship with Ben is a chance to illustrate how little we’ve come to know Chris. The trial forces Chris away from being the affable eccentric we’re familiar with, even when he’s self...

'Parks And Recreation' - 'The Treaty' Recap

November 11th, 2011 10:47am EST
The Treaty
Is it just me or was that episode rather light on laughs?

Sure, the concept of Leslie and Ben’s personal trouble causing a model war to break out at Pawnee’s model UN is funny enough in concept—with some effective barbs at the actual UN—but overall, this felt just like a retread of last week’s otherwise great episode when Leslie and Ben decided that they could remain friends after some awkward tension built up when they were forced to work together. This week, I guess, puts that decision to the test when Leslie invites Ben to help her run the model UN for Pawnee’s little Knopes and Bens (y...

'Parks And Recreation' - 'Pawnee Rangers' Recap

October 14th, 2011 4:18pm EDT
Pawnee Rangers
This week we mainly follow the conflict between Pawnee’s two competing youth groups: the bleak, all boys survivalist group the Pawnee Rangers, led by Ron Swanson, and its all-girl antithesis the Pawnee Goddesses, created by Leslie Knope, who never met a gender role she couldn’t break. Like when he coached basketball last year, Ron becomes even more rigid when children are in his tutaliage. His single rule for his Rangers? Be a man. Other than that, he gives them a box and a piece of canvas and sets out to teach his boys the virtue of solitude, contemplation and surviving the wild.

To Ron t...

'Parks And Recreation' – 'Born And Raised' Recap

October 7th, 2011 4:20pm EDT
Gotcha Girls
Now that Tammy 1 has been sent back to Hell or… wherever she’s from (Indianapolis?), "Parks and Rec" is back on the Knope 2012 campaign. Like every single other politician in the world, Leslie has written a book. Rather than write about what a wonderful visionary she is (again, like every single other politican in the world), Leslie has written a comprehensive history of Pawnee… with her picture on the cover for some reason.

To promote the book, Leslie is making the Pawnee media rounds—apparently opting out of her favorite radio show Crazy Ira and The Douche for classier pastures, a goofba...

'Parks And Recreation' - 'I'm Leslie Knope' Recap

September 23rd, 2011 9:23am EDT
I'm Leslie Knope
Hello fellow Pawneeians! I’ll be guiding you through this fourth (fourth!) season of NBC’s “Parks and Recreation”. So let’s get kicking.

The end of last season saw most of the parks department moving towards brighter futures, making their lives about a million times more complicated than they were before. Leslie and Ben decided to keep their forbidden romance from the rest of the office, which makes for a potential scandal when Leslie’s political career suddenly sprouts legs. Tom resigned so he can follow his dreams of being—well Jay-Z, I guess. Even Andy is looking to moving on from his s...

Q&A: Jesse Eisenberg And Nick Swardson Talk Crazy Driving And Off-Screen Bonding For '30 Minutes Or Less'

30 Minutes 1
Director Ruben Fleischer and actor Jesse Eisenberg proved to be formidable combination with their 2009 horror comedy “Zombieland,” which brought a unique sense of humor to the zombie apocalypse. After dabbling in a couple of indies like “Solitary Man” and “Holy Rollers,” Eisenberg went on to achieve mainstream success playing Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg in the Oscar nominated “Social Network.”

Eisenberg’s limelight didn’t make him forget about Fleischer though. The pair teamed up again to bring us the summer action comedy “30 Minutes or Less.” In the film, two wanna-be criminals (...

Trailer Talk: This Week In Movies - '30 Minutes Or Less,' 'The Help,' & More

August 8th, 2011 1:00pm EDT
30 Minutes or Less
Last week I caught two films: “The Change-Up” and “The Devil’s Double.” Neither of them blew me away, but if I had to pick a favorite of the two, “The Devil’s Double” wins.

With “Wedding Crashers” director David Dobkin at the helm, “The Hangover” writers Jon Lucas and Scott Moore, and actors like Ryan Reynolds and Jason Bateman, you’d expect higher caliber comedy in “The Change-Up.”

Reynolds and Bateman give fine performances, but the creative team lacks focus in the genre of humor it seeks, and allows the story to drag on too long. “The Change-Up” tries to mix buddy, body swapping, r...

Amy Poehler & Aziz Ansari Talk About The New Season Of 'Parks And Recreation'

September 16th, 2009 10:02am EDT
Parks & Recreation
Eternally optimistic small town park director Leslie Knope (Amy Poehler) spent the first season of NBC's "Parks and Recreation" working to transform a vast garbage-filled trench known as "the pit" into a family-friendly green space. Much like Leslie's steering committee, "Parks" has its own work ahead if it hopes to avoid falling into its own pit of TV oblivion.

"We're lucky that we had a little [six episode] first season so we're still getting into the groove," says Poehler. "I think like any new show you have to get things up and running and figure out where the bathrooms are. It's a c...

'Reno 911! The Complete Sixth Season: Uncensored' Now On DVD; Win A Copy!

In season six, two new cops join the Reno 911! squad: Sergeant Jack Declan (Ian Roberts) the macho, by-the-book cop's cop and Deputy Franky Rizzo (Joe Lo Truglio), a big city cop and the opposite of Declan who not only doesn't play by the rules, he hasn't even read the rules. The sixth season included guest star Jonah Hill resolving last season's cliffhanger as to which Reno deputies survived the horrible accident at the taco stand, the deputies getting a free vacation to Thailand, Lt. Dangle hosting a murder mystery dinner and the deputies hiring Reno's finest director to help them make a...
