Wes Anderson And Owen Wilson Have Parents To Thank For Success
Director Wes Anderson and his actor pal Owen Wilson have their parents to thank for all their success - each borrowed $2,000 from their fathers to make their first movie together, Bottle Rocket.
The pair met during their college years and after discovering a common love of cinema, decided to try to make it big in Hollywood together.
Anderson and The Wedding Crashers funnyman then asked their parents for cash to fund their plans for Bottle Rocket - which came out in 1994 and served as the directorial and film debut for both stars.

Bill Murray Books A Role At 'The Grand Budapest Hotel'
Bill Murray is the Johnny Depp to Wes Anderson's Tim Burton (even though Johnny Depp himself might now be the Johnny Depp to Wes Anderson's Wes Anderson).
This should come as no surprise to anyone, but Murray has confirmed that he's involved in Anderson's latest bit of cinematic whimsy, "The Grand Budapest Hotel," according to an interview with Vulture.
Appropriately enough, the revelation came during an interview that took place in a hotel room during the Toronto International Film Festival. Murray actually offered the information completely on his own: "I'm about to go shoot a movie wit...

Johnny Depp Checks Into Wes Anderson's 'The Grand Budapest Hotel'
Johnny Depp and Wes Anderson: A match made in movie heaven, for sure.
The "Dark Shadows" star and "Moonrise Kingdom" maestro are joining forces for "The Grand Budapest Hotel," according to Deadline. A Depp-Anderson collaboration could very well guarantee that "Hotel" is destined to be one of the most hotly anticipated movies of all time.
No plot details of "The Grand Budapest Hotel" have been released, but Wes Anderson had recently revealed a casting wish list that included Depp, Owen Wilson, Edward Norton, Jude Law, Jeff Goldblum, Adrien Brody, Willem Dafoe, Angela Lansbury and, of cours...

You Read That Right: 'Moonrise Kingdom' Sets Box Office Record
Moonrise Kingdom now has something common with The Avengers - they both set box office records. Wes Anderson's latest film has broken Dreamgirls' record of making the most money per theater.
The comedy-drama averaged over $130,000 for each of the four theaters it was in, making $669,000 total over its first four days. In 2006, Dreamgirls set the mark at $126,000 a theater.
Focus CEO James Schamus said, "Moonrise is a story of love's improbable triumph, and for Wes Anderson and his team a labor of love from start to finish. How wonderful it is to congratulate him, on behalf of everyone at ...

'Moonrise Kingdom' Movie Review: Clever Or Just Cliché?
When a 12-year-old Khaki Scout escapes a camping trip to marry a depressive blue-eyeshadowed girl and her cat, getting struck by lightning is the least of his worries. This quirky, emotionally subtle little indie is about the pure, raw feelings of love most of us learn to squash once we hit adulthood. Wes Anderson succeeds in making us laugh as we tap into our kinder, gentler super powers...
Set in 1965, many of the scenes in Moonrise Kingdom are shot in square frames, with head-on angles. This reflects the seemingly perfect New England community in which the story takes place. Compare the...

Bill Murray Gives An Interesting Tour Of The 'Moonrise Kingdom' Set
Wes Anderson's latest eccentric opus Moonrise Kingdom has just opened to rave reviews at the Cannes Film Festival and will hit U.S. this weekend, and, despite a cast roster including Bruce Willis, Edward Norton and Frances McDormand, there's one thesp who's guaranteed to bring the funny: Bill Murray.
Anderson's muse since the heady days of "Rushmore," Murray is such deadpan force of nature that you could probably follow him around with a camera while he's drinking and strike comedy gold, which is exactly what happens in a new "Moonrise" promo video.

Trailer Talk: This Week in Movies - 'Men in Black III,' 'Moonrise Kingdom' & More
I didn’t end up watching “Battleship” last week, because I wasn’t in the mood to knowingly subject myself to a bad movie that night. Friends who caught it, told me that it’s as terrible as they thought it would be, giving it a D grade. Critic Matt Patches hilariously called it “as stiff and lifeless as the plastic pieces used to play (the board game).” After hearing things like that I’m glad I didn’t bother with “Battleship.”
This week includes the release of the highly anticipated blockbuster “Men in Black III,” but I’m more interested in Wes Anderson’s “Moonrise Kingdom” since it feature...

Diane Kruger & British Director Address Allegations Of Sexism At The Cannes Film Festival
The Cannes Film Festival in the south of France kicked off on Wednesday. During the 12-day gala, a total of 22 movies will be screened for the coveted Palme d'Or prize. Wes Anderson's "Moonrise Kingdom," Ken Loach's "The Angels' Share" and David Cronenberg's "Cosmopolis" are some of the films in contention.
Critics recently pointed out the lack of female filmmakers in competition for the prestigious prize. A group of French filmmakers wrote an open letter to the media accusing Cannes organizers of failing to give proper recognition to projects made by female directors.

A Very Plaid Bill Murray Talks 'Moonrise Kingdom' At Cannes
Bruce Willis and Bill Murray attended the photocall for "Moonrise Kingdom" at the Cannes International Film Festival at the Palais des Festivals in France today.
The "Caddyshack" star wore some interesting duds - plaid pants, a plaid jacket and a plaid button-down shirt. Naturally, none of the plaids matched.
Wes Anderson directed and co-wrote "Moonrise Kingdom," a period comedy-drama set in the 1960s. A pair of young lovers (Jared Gilman and Kara Hayward) from an island off the New England coast head for the hills and throw their small town into a frenzy.

Great Actor/Director Combos For The Release Of 'Dark Shadows'
Every artist has their muse, whether it be human, imaginary, or in some cases, drug induced. And while certainly some people might joke that the latter is Tim Burton's muse of choice, given the stye and subject of many of his films, it's become quite clear over the years that he draws inspiration from the people he surrounds himself with. Most notable among them are Helena Bonham Carter and Johnny Depp.
Given that his newest film, "Dark Shadows", marks Burton and Depp's 8th film collaboration, we at Starpulse decided to take a look at some of the other actor/director partnerships that hav...

Natalie Portman: The Best Actress Of Her Generation?
Since her intense breakout role in 1994’s “The Professional,” Natalie Portman has been one of the most respected and versatile actors working in Hollywood. Her filmography spans over 15 years but is as impressive and solid as Audrey Hepburn’s or Meryl Streep’s, two actresses to whom she has rightfully been compared.
It makes sense that Portman has become one of the most talented performers in Hollywood considering the amazing list of directors with whom she’s worked:
Luc Besson (“The Professional”)
Michael Mann (“Heat”)
Ted Demme (“Beautiful Girls”)

Will Adrien Brody Be Eaten Alive in 'Predators'?
When people think of action movie stars, one of the last names that comes to mind is Adrien Brody, Academy Award-winner for “The Pianist” and hip-hop enthusiast. After this summer though, that perception or lack of confidence may change. On July 9 Brody will appear in “Predators,” the new chapter in the “Predator” franchise, as Royce the leader of a band of humans who find themselves on the Predators’ home planet.

Trailer Talk: This Week In Movies - '2012,' 'Pirate Radio' & More
At some point this week I hope to catch the wacky comedy "The Men Who Stare at Goats." While I have read some bad reviews of the film, I believe my tendency to disagree with the mainstream, could be a wild card for my own appraisal of the movie.
I'm having difficulty believing the collection of George Clooney, Ewan McGregor, Kevin Spacey and Jeff Bridges could contribute to a horrific film considering I how much appreciate their abilities on screen.

Clooney, Murray & Schwartzman Voice 'Fantastic Mr. Fox'
George Clooney, Bill Murray and Jason Schwartzman are among the stars who have brought Roald Dahl's beloved children's tale Fantastic Mr. Fox to life. The trio has provided the voices for the leading characters in the new Wes Anderson movie.
Schwartzman recorded his part in the film in just 20 minutes in London after Anderson duped him about rehearsal time.
He tells MovieHole.net, "I asked Wes whether we could put aside some time first to talk about the movie, my character, his motivation and so on. He said, 'Sure, we'll be fine. We'll rehearse first and then talk about those thin...

Owen Wilson Thought 'Bottle Rocket' Would End His Career
Actor Owen Wilson feared never landing a movie role again after his performance in the 1996 movie Bottle Rocket was panned by critics. Wilson - who co-wrote the movie with director pal Wes Anderson - received the worst results of any Columbia Pictures test preview ever.
And although it initially widely judged to be a flop, it has since become a cult hit.

Wes Anderson Denies 'Racist' Accusations
Director Wes Anderson denies claims his new movie The Darjeeling Limited is racially offensive to Indian nationals. The filmmaker, 38, spoke out after U.S. film critic Jonah Weiner accused him of portraying the non-white characters in the film particularly shallowly.
Anderson says, "It's a harsh thing to be accused of, racism. It's hard not to be offended by that. I mean, this is a movie from the point of view of three American tourists, so their window is always going to be pretty narrow. But this notion that we are somehow using India as fodder, that's just so wrong. One does feel m...

Wes Anderson To Fulfill Childhood 'Fantastic Mr. Fox' Dream
Director Wes Anderson is on course to fulfill a childhood dream - after getting the green light to make a big-screen version of Roald Dahl classic, Fantastic Mr. Fox. The Royal Tenenbaums movie maker was desperate to adapt the 1970s children's tale, and after a lengthy battle, has finally begun work on the animated movie in London.
He says, "It was one of my favorite books as a child. I have been trying to make this film for eight years. There's a whole new bit at the start and a new section at the end. But we've tried to do something that Roald Dahl would love."

On the night The Darjeeling Limited opens, Owen Wilson's suicide attempt makes him a Tenenbaum for life (Aquatic).

Wes Anderson Makes Budget Cuts
Director Wes Anderson has slammed the huge budget on his last film The Life Aquatic because the money took its toll on the movie's stars, including Bill Murray.
The budget of $50 million allowed the filmmaker to shoot underwater scenes on elaborate sets, but ultimately meant the film was a large, complicated production.
However, the experience did teach the 38-year-old a valuable lesson - Anderson cut the budget of newest film The Darjeeling Limited down by two-thirds.
