LOS ANGELES (AP) — A larger-than-life snowglobe filled with murderous little girls, a "Battlestar Galactica" spaceship and comic-book legend Stan Lee flying overhead on a bouquet of giant balloons — just a few signs that Spike TV's "Scream 2009" is different from other awards shows.

Michael Ausiello, "Entertainment Weekly's" TV writer, is the "outbreak monkey" of his field. There is a new virus that is affecting the field of media journalism, and that plague is celebrity. The new neo-celebrity status of these journalists has a patient zero - the person we see as the beginning of it all - and that is Ausiello himself.

The fall season is finally upon us, and that means television is worth watching again. The summer has a few hot shows, but it is really just a waiting station for our favorites to return in September.
