More often than not, a popular television series will be capitalized upon in a quick-release feature film that often becomes a forgotten fragment of an actor or actresses work. But, there are even fewer great television series that are based on a movie. In fact there are so few that 9 was the magic number for this list. A great television series has to capture the audience's attention and make them want to tune in weekly, despite the myriad of choices they have. These in particular, did the job and well.
1. Buffy the Vampire Slayer (Series and Film)
There are very few people who recall the 1992 film "Buffy The Vampire Slayer" starring Luke Perry and Kristy Swanson and thankfully so, because the television series was way better than the film could ever be! On-air from March 10, 1997 until May 20, 2003, "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" was television camp at its finest. It should have been horrible, this television show about a teenage vampire slayer and her friends both dead and undead. But in fact it was good, soooo good! Sarah Michelle Gellar headed the cast as Buffy and supporting her was a stellar cast of actors such as David Boreanz, Nicholas Brendon, Alyson Hannigan, Charisma Carpenter, Anthony Stewart Head, Seth Green, James Marsters, Marc Blucas, Emma Caulfield, Michelle Trachtenberg and Amber Benson. The series received critical and popular acclaim and reached between four and six million viewers a week, as well as making TV Guide's list of the Top 50 Television shows ever!
